The District Magistrate said the collapse of the 2.5 lakh litre water tank which was built just three years ago will be investigated.

Two women died and 11 people were injured after being buried under the debris of an overhead water tank that collapsed in a densely populated area of Mathura district on Sunday, officials said.
One of the injured, identified as Nawab (35), has been sent to SN Medical College and Hospital in Agra as his condition was serious, they said.
The incident took place at around 6 pm in Krishna Vihar Colony developed by the Uttar Pradesh Awas Vikas Parishad.
District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar Singh said the other injured people, including five women, were taken to the district hospital for treatment.
Apart from the fire service and police personnel, teams of revenue, municipal corporation, and health department are engaged in the rescue work, the DM said, adding that teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are also called.
Dr Bhudev Prasad, in-charge of the Rapid Response Team of the Health Department, said that two women died on the way to the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Sundari (65) and Sarita (27).
The injured include Saraswati (45), Baby (52), Kamlesh (65), Nikunja (22), Mili (18), Prince (6), Gaurishankar (84), Mahavir (50), Vipindra (34), and Ramesh Chand (66).
All of them are in stable condition, Prasad said.
Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue) Yogendra Pandey earlier confirmed that two persons died after the 2.5 lakh litre tank collapsed.
He said that the work of removing the debris is still going on and several people are still likely to be trapped under it.
The DM said the construction of the water tank was completed in 2021 and its collapse in just three years will be investigated.
He also said the tank was built by the Jal Nigam at a cost of Rs 6 crore under the Gangajal Drinking Water Project.

Deceased Sanjay reportedly insisted on cash payment as they staff had no access to confirm digital payments due to late night.
Captured on CCTV, the accused can be seen assaulting Sanjay, eventually leading up to his collapse. The three then fled the spot in their car.
The three accused have been identified as Anok, Narender and Mallesh, and have been booked for murder, as per an Indian Express report.
Another staffer who was present at the time of the incident said the three were drunk and during the argument, one of them slapped and punched Sanjay causing him to collapse, the report added.

Adenovirus scare: Mamata Banerjee urges people to wear face masks after 6 kids die

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said six children have so far died in the state due to adenovirus, and urged people to start using face masks again to combat the menace.
Banerjee also said one of her family members has been infected by the virus, but did not elaborate on the development.
"So far, 19 people have died due to Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI), and out of them, 13 had comorbidities and six (deaths of children) were due to adenovirus. I urge people to start wearing face masks for the time-being,&rdquo; she said at the state assembly.
&ldquo;Do not panic and see a doctor immediately if you are having fever," the CM added.

Banerjee also claimed that health services have improved a lot in Bengal compared to the Covid period.

A class 12 student sustained a shrapnel injury in her hand on Sunday after being fired upon by a 22-year-old man who was later found dead near a railway track in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh, police said.
The 17-year-old girl has been admitted to a hospital.
"The body of the man, identified as Rahul Kushwaha, has been sent for postmortem," city Superintendent of Police (CSP) Shweta Gupta told PTI.
The exact cause of Kushwaha's death will be known once the postmortem report is ready.
As per the preliminary investigation, Kushwaha reached a school, located in Nazul area, at around 4 pm where a farewell party for students was going on. He called the girl outside and insisted she talks to him. When she refused, he fired a shot at her from a country-made pistol but missed the target.
"However, a shrapnel of the bullet hit the girl's hand," police said.
Hours after the incident, Kushwaha's body was found lying near railway tracks close to Mahugarha railway station, about 8 km from the Guna district headquarters, police said.
Gupta said the case is being investigated from all angles.

Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Twitter, in what is the government's first statement on the deaths of children in Uzbekistan after consuming a cough syrup made by an Indian manufacturer.
In a series of tweets on December 29, the Health Minister informed that a probe has been launched on the matter and samples of the cough syrup have been sent to a testing laboratory in Chandigarh.

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has initiated a probe in connection with the death of 18 children in Uzbekistan allegedly linked to a cough syrup manufactured by an Indian firm, official sources said on Thursday.
The health ministry of Uzbekistan has claimed that the children who died had consumed cough syrup 'Doc-1 Max' manufactured by Noida-based Marion Biotech.
Hasan Harris, legal representative of Mario Biotech, said the governments of both countries is looking into the matter and inquiring.
"There is no problem from our end and no issue in testing. We have been there for the past ten years. Once the government report will come, we will look into it. For now the manufacturing has stopped," Harris said.
According to the ministry, chemical ethylene glycol was found in a batch of syrup during laboratory tests.
Sources said the Drugs Controller General of India has sought more information regarding the incident from the Uzbek regulator. &nbsp; An inspection jointly conducted by the central drugs regulatory team of north zone and state drugs regulatory team was also taken during which samples of the drugs were also lifted.
Earlier this year, death of 70 children in Gambia was linked to cough syrups manufactured by Haryana-based Maiden Pharmaceuticals following which the Haryana based unit was shut for violation of manufacturing standards. &nbsp;However, later the samples tested in a government laboratory in India were found to be complying with specifications.

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly strangulated by her father and uncle for eloping with a boyfriend in Maharashtra's Jalna district, police said.
The two accused were arrested on Wednesday morning, said an official.
The girl, resident of an area near Jalna city, had eloped with her boyfriend three days ago. When she returned home, her father and uncle allegedly beat her up and strangled her on Tuesday night.
Some media outlets reported that the girl's father and uncle had asked her to come back home on the pretext of getting her married to the boy. The report added that the duo then dragged her from the wedding mandap and killed her.&nbsp;

Gan was later taken to hospital where he succumbed to injuries. He was reportedly stabbed on abdomen and chest.
Accused Feng was reportedly arrested for the alleged murder.

A 24-year-old Indian-origin Sikh man has died of gunshot wounds in the Canadian province of Alberta, with police citing homicide as the reason for his death, the second such incident this month in this country.
The victim, identified as Sanraj Singh, was located by the police in Edmonton city when they responded to a gunshot report on December 3 night, an Edmonton police news release said.
Singh was found sitting in a vehicle in medical distress. The police performed CPR, a life-saving technique, until the Emergency Medical Services arrived and declared him dead.

The autopsy report revealed homicide to be the manner of death, the press release said.

&nbsp;A gas explosion in an apartment building Saturday killed at least nine people, including four children, on the island of Sakhalin in far eastern Russia, according local authorities.
A section of the five-story building in the town of Tymovskoye collapsed after a gas cylinder exploded in one of the apartments at around 5:30 am Moscow time, authorities said.
Rescue teams were searching for more victims under the rubble, Sakhalin Governor Valery Limarenko wrote on Telegram. Some of the 33 people known to have lived in the building remained unaccounted for, he said.
Sakhalin is located in the Pacific Ocean, north of Japan.
