A new deepfake video of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy is going viral in Facebook. The deepfake video has morphed two previous videos of the Business Tycoon from two different events.
<h3>Deepfake Menace</h3>
The videos show Narayana Murthy promoting a so-called investing platform &ldquo;Quantum AI&rdquo;. One of the now deleted videos on Facebook showed a morphed version of the software leader purportedly saying he and billionaire Elon Musk are working on a project called &ldquo;Quantum AI&rdquo;.
&ldquo;Today I want to present our new project together with Elon Musk. Quantum AI is the world&rsquo;s first quantum computing software developed by my team and Elon&rsquo;s team with a 94% success rate,&rdquo; the morphed voice says. It further urged people to join &ldquo;Quantum AI&rdquo;, claiming they can earn up to &ldquo;$3,000 on their first working day&rdquo;.

The perpetrators have used a video from a conversation held during Business Today&rsquo;s Mindrush event where the business tycoon shared his insights on the Indian economy. As per MoneyControl, the giveaway in the video is Murthy&rsquo;s English accent which is not the same as the one in deepfake video.
Another video that was used was actually shot during Murthy's speech in the &nbsp;Moneycontrol Startup Conclave held on July 7 in Bengaluru. He was interviewed by his son Rohan Murty. During the candid conversation on a range of topics, nowhere did Murthy mention anything on artificial intelligence, says Moneycontrol. The publication further mentions that the fake video missed out the lip sync of Narayana Murthy giving it away as fake.

Deepfake videos are synthetic media in which a person in an existing image or video is replaced with someone else's likeness.&nbsp;

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called for global regulation of artificial intelligence saying there were concerns about the negative use of the emerging technology.
"There are growing concerns across the world on the negative use of AI. India's thinking is clear, we have to work together on global regulation of AI," Modi said addressing the virtual summit of Leaders of G20 countries.
"We must understand the dangers posed by deepfakes to society and individuals and move forward," Modi said.
Earlier this month, interacting with journalists at BJP's 'Diwali Milan' programme, Modi had voiced concern over the issue of deepfakes.
"I watched my deepfake video in which I'm doing garba. But the reality is that I have not done garba after my school life. Someone made my deepfake video," the prime minister said.
However, a Mumbai-based businessman, who is a look-alike of the prime minister claimed that the video in question featured him playing garba and was not a deepfake of the prime minister.

As India calls for global regulation of Artificial Intelligence, the IT Ministry has announced that new laws will soon be introduced to mitigate the creation of deepfakes.

Terming deepfakes as a new threat to democracy, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday said that the government will come up with new regulations soon to tackle deepfakes.
The minister, who met social media platforms on the deepfake issue on Thursday, said that companies have agreed on the need for clear actionable work in areas such as detection, prevention, strengthening of reporting mechanism, and raising user awareness.
"We will start drafting regulation today itself, and within a short time we will have a new set of regulations for deepfakes ... this could be in the form of amending existing framework or bringing new rules, or new law," Vaishnaw told reporters.
Deepfakes have emerged as a new threat to democracy, the minister said.
"We will have our next meeting in the first week of December...that will be on follow-up action on today's decisions, and also on what should be included in the draft regulation," Vaishnaw said. Deepfakes refer to synthetic or doctored media that is digitally manipulated and altered to convincingly misrepresent or impersonate someone, using a form of artificial intelligence.
Recently, several 'deepfake' videos targeting leading actors went viral, sparking public outrage and raising concerns over the misuse of technology and tools for creating doctored content and fake narratives.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi cautioned people over the misuse of artificial intelligence for creating 'deep fakes', the Congress on Friday said it has been flagging the issue since 2014 "The prime minister is warning the country now of deep fakes. This is exactly what we have been saying since May 2014," said AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh in a post in X.
Prime Minister Modi earlier in the day cautioned that deep fakes created by artificial intelligence can lead to a big crisis and stoke discontent in society, as he urged the media to raise awareness about its misuse and educate people.
He was speaking at the Diwali Milan programme at the BJP headquarters.
