DCP Apurva Gupta said that after about three hours of chase by around 20 police vehicles, the kidnapper abandoned the car with the kids near the Samaypur Badli area and escaped.

The Delhi police, in a successful three-hour car chase, rescued two siblings aged three and 11 years who were kidnapped from the Laxmi Nagar area, officials said on Saturday.
The accused demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from the parents of the siblings, they said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apurva Gupta said that they received information regarding the kidnapping of a boy (3) and a girl (11) in their own car on Friday at 11.30 pm.
The siblings' father informed the police that the children were sitting in the car, in front of Hira Sweets shop in Vikas Marg in Shakarpur area. He and their mother went inside the shop to buy some sweets when a man, pretending to be a parking worker, came and sat inside their car, Gupta said.
The accused told the children that their parents had asked him to park the car in the parking lot but he sped away. He also threatened the girl by showing her a hammer and telling her to remain silent, the DCP said.
While driving, he called the couple from another mobile phone and demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh, she said.
Upon receiving information, rescue teams were activated and two teams were formed to trace the accused and the children. One team was led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Shakarpur police station along with the children's mother and another led by the SHO of Laxmi Nagar police station with their father, Gupta said.
Based on technical surveillance, both teams started searching for the accused in two separate directions. The teams of Special Staff, and other neighbouring districts were also mobilised for the search of the kidnapped children, the officer said.
Gupta said after around a three-hour neck-to-neck chase by around 20 vehicles of police officers, the kidnapper abandoned the car with the kids near the Samaypur Badli area and escaped.
In between, the accused drove the vehicle for over 100 kilometres on the street of Delhi, the officer said.
The teams finally managed to rescue the children, who were safe and sound. They have been reunited with their parents, she added.
The officer said the valuables, including jewellery and mobile phones kept in the car, were also found intact, as the kidnapper had no time to take anything when he found himself being chased by the police from all sides, DCP said.
Gupta said the other districts' police teams, especially Outer North district and Railway Protection Force (RPF), also helped immensely in this operation, and their prompt actions are appreciated.
Teams have been formed to arrest the accused, Gupta added.

Delhi minister Atishi continued her hunger strike for the third day amid the water crisis in the city. She alleged that Haryana is not releasing Delhi's share of water.&nbsp;
"Delhi does not have its own water. All the water in Delhi comes from neighbouring states. The total water in Delhi is 1005 MGD. Out of which 613 MGD (million gallons per day) comes from Haryana but in the last 3 weeks, Haryana has reduced it. They are not giving water to Delhi," said Atishi in a video.
"The Haryana government says that we do not have water but yesterday some people went to Hathni Kund Barrage and showed that there is water in the Hathni Kund Barrage but the gate from which water is released for Delhi has been closed and water is not being released from there," she added.
A day earlier, Atishi's blood sugar level dipped by 16 units while her blood pressure also fell.
The Delhi government, in a statement on Saturday, said that on the second day of her hunger strike, Atishi's blood pressure was 119/79 mmHg, blood sugar 83 mg/d, weight 65.1 kg and oxygen level 98. On Friday, her blood pressure was 132/88 mmHg, blood sugar 99 mg/dL, weight 65.8 kg and oxygen level 98, it said.

Temperatures have soared to record highs, with Safdarjung Observatory recording 46.8 degrees Celsius on May 29, the highest in 79 years. This heatwave has resulted in an estimated 25% decline in business, with some eateries reporting losses as high as 40%.

According to industry insiders who spoke to PTI, lunch hours are the worst hit with usual office goers and trusted shoppers preferring to stay indoors. Besides, true-blue foodies are also ditching their weekly dine-outs and preferring to stay in.
Rahul Arora, owner of The Big Tree Cafe in Gurgaon, which specializes in al-fresco dining, is among those affected. "Typically, we do see a slight reduction in footfalls during the hotter months, but this year, the decline has been more pronounced due to the extreme temperatures," he said. "We have suffered a huge 40% drop in business due to the record-breaking sweltering heat."
Manpreet Singh, treasurer of the National Restaurant Association of India and owner of multiple restaurants, including Zen and Fujiya, noted a significant drop in lunch hour traffic. "There has been a 25% drop in business in general,&rdquo; he said, highlighting the impact on popular market hubs like Connaught Place.
Restaurants are attempting to counteract the decline by offering discounts, updating menus, and enhancing outdoor cooling with mist fans and shaded areas. Shruti Malik, founder of Anardana, mentioned their plant-based summer soiree with seasonal ingredients and cool mango beverages to attract customers.
For those avoiding the heat, home deliveries provide an alternative. However, delivery agents face challenging conditions, earning modest incomes while battling the scorching sun. A 36-year-old delivery agent described working between 11 am and 3 pm as a "living nightmare."
In contrast, restaurants located in air-conditioned malls have seen increased evening footfalls. Rahul Singh, senior vice president of pubs at Bira 91, reported, "The heatwave has not disrupted our business. On the contrary, we have witnessed the best May ever."
In response to the heatwave, food aggregator Zomato urged customers to avoid ordering during peak afternoon hours, sparking a debate. Some praised the concern, while others suggested alternatives. Rushabh Jhaveri, founder of Recipe Cup, commended Zomato but suggested a more balanced approach, such as providing incentives for delivery partners during peak hours and encouraging pre-orders.
Meanwhile, restaurants in air-conditioned malls are thriving. Insiders report increased evening footfalls, offsetting the afternoon declines. Rahul Singh, senior vice president of pubs at Bira 91, stated, "The heatwave has not disrupted our business. On the contrary, we have witnessed the best May ever. Most of our outlets are in malls, and people are spending a lot of time in malls to take respite from the heat. This is helping our business."

The Supreme Court on Wednesday came down heavily on the Delhi government over the prevalence of tanker mafia and water wastage in the city, and asked what measures it has taken against them.
A vacation bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Prasanna B Varale told Delhi government that if it can't deal with tanker mafia, it will ask the Delhi Police to take action in the matter.
"Why were false statements made before this court? Water is coming from Himachal Pradesh then where is the water going in Delhi? There is so much spillage, tanker mafias etc.. what measures have you taken in this regard.
"People are suffering, we are seeing visuals on every news channel. What measures have you taken to control water wastage if water scarcity is a recurring problem in summers," the bench observed orally.
Advocate Shadan Farasat, appearing for the Delhi government, said there is action, including massive disconnection of water supplies, so that excess water wastage is stopped.
The top court asked the Delhi government to file a report stating action taken for the loss of water. The matter will be taken up on Thursday.
The top court is hearing a plea filed by the Delhi government seeking a direction to Haryana to release the surplus water provided by Himachal Pradesh to the national capital to mitigate its water crisis.

Dr Naveen Kichi had been on the run since the fire outbreak late on Saturday, they said.
Delhi Fire Services officials said a blaze erupted at the Baby Care New Born Hospital in east Delhi's Vivek Vihar area around 11:30 pm on Saturday and spread to two adjacent buildings.
Twelve newborns were rescued from the facility but seven of them died. Five babies are undergoing treatment at another hospital, they said.

Delhi Chief Electoral Officer P Krishnamurthy said on Thursday that over one lakh polling personnel have been deployed for the conduct of polls on May 25 while several steps have been taken to protect people from the intense heat wave.
Highlighting special initiatives to enhance the voting experience, he said they have set up 70 pink polling stations across Delhi, one in each assembly constituency, which will be entirely operated by women polling staff, according to a statement.
Additionally, 70 model polling stations will feature enhanced facilities. For the first time, each parliamentary constituency will have a polling station fully staffed by persons with disabilities (PwD), he added.
"We have meticulously planned and executed all aspects of election management, including manpower, logistics and transport management," he said.
He emphasised that based on the directives from the Election Commission and the IMD forecast of an intense heat wave, comprehensive measures have been implemented to address the expected high temperatures of 44 to 45 degrees Celsius.
"Our preparations are complete. Shaded areas will be established at all polling stations, with fully covered waiting zones equipped with coolers and fans to ensure voter comfort. We have ensured the availability of drinking water, toilets, ramps, and wheelchairs at every polling station under the Assured Minimum Facility Policy so that no voter faces any inconvenience," he said.
Additionally, paramedical staff equipped with basic medical kits will be stationed at all polling locations, he added.
To further encourage voter turnout, the office of the chief electoral officer has partnered with Rapido bike taxi to offer free rides home after voting. Voters will also receive special coupons from Zomato and Swiggy online food ordering and delivery platforms, and various restaurants will provide discounts upon showing voting ink, the statement said.

The traffic police have also issued an advisory in view of the protest planned outside the BJP office on the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.
"In view of the proposed protest by a political party at DDU Marg Delhi, Traffic will remain heavy at DDU Marg, IP Marg, Minto Road and Vikas Marg. DDU marg may be closed for traffic movement between 11 am to 2 pm. Kindly avoid these roads and plan your journey accordingly," the traffic police in a post on X.
A senior police officer said security at the BJP headquarters has been heightened as a precautionary measure.
"An adequate number of police personnel has been deployed and the area has been barricaded," said the police officer.
On Saturday, addressing a press conference, Kejriwal accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of "playing the game" of sending AAP leaders such as Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, and Sanjay Singh to jail.
"They are after our party and sending our leaders in jail one after another... Today you have sent my PA (Bibhav Kumar) to jail," he said, adding the BJP is saying they will send AAP MP Raghav Chadha and Delhi ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj to jail too.
"I along with my MLAs and MPs would go to the BJP office at noon tomorrow so that the prime minister can send anyone he wants to jail," he said.&nbsp;

The Delhi Police said that the death of the two people and injuries to six others were due to uprooting of trees in the national capital. The police added that the 17 other people were injured due to damage to buildings.
The Delhi Police further said that they received 152 calls related to tree uprooting, 55 related to building damage and 202 related to power disruption.

Issuing an advisory for the dust storm, the MeT department had urged the people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
&ldquo;Residents are urged to stay indoors, secure their windows and doors and refrain from unnecessary travel," the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in the advisory.
The IMD asked people to seek safe shelters and avoid cover under trees.
The weather department had earlier predicted generally cloudy skies with the possibility of dust storms and thunderstorms on Friday, with light rain accompanied by hailstorms at isolated places.
Squally winds with speeds of 60-70 kmph were also predicted for Friday night.
"Due to the new active western disturbance, the capital will experience drizzle late Friday night, Kuldeep Srivastava, scientist and head of the Regional Meteorological Centre, had said earlier.

A 16-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted and chased by a man in Delhi Metro. The city police said they are looking into the matter.
The alleged incident happened on Friday night at Rajiv Chowk metro station. The teenager took to social networking platform X to share his ordeal.
In a series of posts, the boy wrote, "I just got assaulted in Delhi Metro right now at Rajiv chowk station. I am a 16-year-old boy and I was travelling alone in the metro." The boy said that he boarded the train, headed towards Samaypur Badli, from Rajiv chowk station between 8:30-9:30 pm.
The boy alleged that the man tried to touch his private parts.
&ldquo;I felt something on my bottom as soon as I entered the train but I brushed it off thinking it's someone's bag or someone mistouched me but I was wrong&hellip;I was terrified,&rdquo; he said in the following post.
Delhi Police said that they were looking into the matter and trying to approach the boy.
The boy said that he got down from the metro and a guard escorted him to the next train but the man chased him.
"As soon as I reached my station (Kashmere gate) I got out and tried to go the opposite way trying to trick him and it worked for a while but eventually I had to go to the yellow line and he caught me on my way. I got on the escalator as fast as I could," he said.
He said the man touched him for the third time. &ldquo;I had enough and I grabbed his hair and clicked a picture of him. I was scared and shaking but I did it anyways. After that I waited a while there and he tried to argue but nothing happened," he said.
The boy also shared a picture of the man.

An ice cream vendor was stabbed to death near India Gate on last night, police officials said on Thursday.
Police, who said the incident seemed to be a case of personal enmity, have apprehended a suspect.
According to police, the ice cream vendor, identified as Prabhakar (25), was standing near his trolley when he was attacked by a person on Wednesday night. He collapsed after being stabbed, a police officer said.
People who spotted him lying on the ground informed the police.
"Prima facie, it is suspected to be a case of personal enmity as we have apprehended a suspect," the officer said. Futher investigations are on, he said.
Prabhakar was a native of UP's Etawah, police said.

A man shot dead a cop and injured two, in Delhi before dying by suicide in an auto-rickshaw at a Flyover on April 16. &nbsp; The 44-year-old had an alleged financial dispute with the cop due to which he shot him dead while the officer was riding a motorcycle on Delhi&rsquo;s Meet Nagar flyover near Nand Nagri. &nbsp; The man also opened fire at a scooter rider, who sustained a bullet injury, and the driver of the auto-rickshaw, who escaped the place. &nbsp; Northeast DCP Joy Tirkey says, "Today morning around 11.42 am, a call was made to PS Nand Nagari after which the call was transferred to PS Jyoti Nagar. Both SHOs reached the spot. Three people were hit with bullets, two of whom were victims, and one was the accused, who shot himself in the head. We are verifying the sequence of events... He shot one person on the Meet Nagar flyover, then climbed down and shot one person sitting on his scooter. He then shot himself in the head while sitting in an auto. We have recovered a 7.65 mm pistol. The crime team and FSL team are present at the spot... We are investigating. It is too early to say anything."&nbsp;

A 14-year-old boy was beaten up and a wooden stick was inserted in his private parts allegedly by his classmate in a school in Delhi. According to police, the boy sustained injuries to his private parts and his intestines ruptured.&nbsp;
According to a Hindustan Times report, the boy thumped a table in the classroom after an exam to which the class monitor objected. This led to an argument and as per the FIR, the monitor&rsquo;s friend called a few of his friends and beat up the victim.
The accused has been apprehended and produced in the Juvenile Justice Board, police said adding the victim&rsquo;s family suspects more students might have been involved in the assault.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apoorva Gupta said the incident occurred on April 2 on the premises of a private school. The victim, a student of class eight, allegedly got into a fight with the accused over some issues.
The victim told the police that one of his classmates, who was wearing a mask, beat him up and inserted a wooden stick in his private parts. The accused also threatened him with dire consequences if he told anyone about the assault, Gupta said.
The doctors told the police that a foreign object was inserted inside the posterior of the boy leading to injuries, the police officer said.
Following the incident, the parents and relatives of the victim held protests outside the school on April 3 demanding action.
The victim was counselled and legal action has been initiated, another police officer said.
A case has been registered under the Indian Penal Code section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 377 (unnatural offences), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Further investigation is underway, the officer said.

A Mercedes car rammed into a shop in north Delhi's Civil Lines area injuring six people, including some shop workers, police said on Tuesday.
The police said the incident took place on Sunday afternoon at Fatehchand Kachori shop located at Rajpur Road.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) M K Meena said the driver of the car, identified as Parag Maini, a resident of Sector 79 in Noida, was nabbed from the spot. The vehicle involved in the incident was also seized.
A purported CCTV footage of the incident surfaced on the Internet showing a white-coloured Mercedes hitting some people standing outside the shop and tossing them in the air. The car rammed into a wall moments later.
"As per the preliminary medical examination, the driver was not under the influence of alcohol. His blood sample, though, has been preserved for further analysis as an investigation is still on," DCP Meena said.
He said the injured were admitted at Tirath Ram Shah Hospital in Civil Lines.
A case under sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Civil Lines police station, the police said.&nbsp;
