Massive jams were seen near Akshardham Temple in East Delhi and Delhi-Gurgaon border. Other locations where the "chakka jam" protest is being conducted include the Car Bazar at Vikas Marg, Dayaram Chowk and Civil Lines.
The BJP has alleged&nbsp;that the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/bollywood/multiplex-association-of-india-writes-to-delhi-govt-over-shutting-cinemas-bollywood-backs-1640773414588" target="_blank">Delhi government</a> is opening liquor shops illegally across the city under its new excise policy. Shops are being opened near residential and religious places, the party leaders has claimed.
The Delhi BJP leaders said that the protest will continue until the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/politics/delhi-bjp-mp-waved-liquor-bottles-in-parliament-here-s-why-1638849797307" target="_blank">new liquor policy</a> is rolled back.
Since the introduction of the new excise policy, the BJP has been protesting against the Kejriwal government in Delhi. Close to 850 liquor shops were supposed to open up as the Delhi government has exited from the liquor business.

The national capital on Sunday reported 3,194 Covid cases, the highest single-day rise since May 20, as the positivity rate rose to 4.59%, according to data shared by Delhi's health department.
The city also reported one death due to the disease. Sunday's tally of coronavirus cases was 17% higher than the 2,716 infections registered a day before.
If the positivity rate is over 5% for two consecutive days it would trigger a 'red alert' under the Delhi Disaster Management Authority-approved Graded Response Action Plan leading to a 'total curfew' and halting of most economic activities.
Mumbai also recorded a steep rise in the daily coronavirus cases with 8,063 infections on Sunday.
On Saturday, the city had recorded 6,347 infections, and Sunday's addition was a rise of 27%, officials pointed out.
The city did not see any death during the day due to the infection and 89% of the cases reported are asymptomatic, it added.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said that though the number of daily Covid-19 cases and active cases are increasing in the city, there is no need to panic as those are very mild and do not need hospitalisation.
He presented data to show that despite an increase in the number of cases, bed occupancy in hospitals is even lesser than one per cent and is very low as compared to last year's deadly second wave of coronavirus in April.
Active Covid-19 cases rose from about 2,000 on December 29, 2021 to 6,000 on January 1, but the number of patients in hospitals dipped from 262 t0 247 during this period, Kejriwal said in a virtual press conference.
He added that on March 27 last year, Delhi had 6,600 active cases and 1,150 oxygen beds were occupied. As many as 145 patients were on ventilator compared to five now, he said.

The next level of GRAP, the &lsquo;amber alert, is declared when the positivity rate is recorded at one per cent or above for two consecutive days.
The response is mostly the same as<a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/delhi-govt-imposes-covid-19-yellow-alert-schools-to-shut-public-transport-to-run-at-50-capacity-1640690358371" target="_blank"> 'yellow' alert</a> except that malls and shops of non-essential goods and services will be allowed to open from 10 am to 6 pm.
The Delhi Metro will run at 33 per cent of its seating capacity in Amber alert while dining facilities in restaurants will not be allowed, but take away service will continue.
The DDMA, at its meeting on Wednesday, decided that the Covid-related restrictions imposed under the yellow alert will continue for the time being and the authorities will monitor the situation for a while before deciding on fresh curbs.&nbsp;

India's Omicron case tally jumped to 781 on Wednesday. The cases of the new and more infectious Covid-19 variant have been detected in 21 states and UTs so far.
Of 781 Omicron&nbsp;infected people, 241 have recovered or migrated so far, according to the Union Health Ministry data.
The national capital Delhi is at the top of the Omicron chart with 238 cases, including 57 recoveries. Maharashtra is second with 167 Omicron cases, including 72 recoveries. Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, West Bengal have all Omicron cases in double digits.

Meanwhile, India's Covid-19 tally also saw a big jump on Wednesday with 9,195 people testing positive for coronavirus infection in a day. This is a sharp&nbsp;44 per cent jump from Tuesday's 6,358 cases.
The number of fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours surpassed the number of people recovered, which stood at 7,347.
Astronomical rise in Covid cases in Delhi and Mumbai has been the main reason behind the spike in India's daily tally.
Covid raced through Mumbai and Delhi on Wednesday, registering a 70 per cent and 50 per cent jump over a 24-hour period. While Mumbai reported 1,377 cases, the national capital logged 496.

The federation has called upon all resident doctors associations across India for complete shutdown of healthcare services from Wednesday. The AIIMS Resident Doctors' Association has come out in support of the protests saying it shall shut down all non-emergency services on Wednesday if no adequate response is received from the government within 24 hours.
However, the police denied any allegations of using excessive force or abusive language and said only 12 protesters were detained and released later.
Junior doctors have said the delay in NEET-PG counselling continued to hold back new doctors from entering medical colleges.
FORDA president Manish claimed that resident doctors of a large number of major hospitals on Monday "returned their apron (lab coat) in a symbolic gesture of rejection of services".
"We also tried to march from the campus of the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) to Supreme Court, but soon after we had started it, security personnel did not allow us to proceed," he said.
Manish also alleged that several doctors were "detained" by police force, and taken to police station premises, before being released after some time. He also alleged that "police force was used and many doctors were injured" during their dramatic face-off.
In a statement issued later, FORDA said it was a "black day in the history of the medical fraternity".
"Resident doctors, the so-called 'Corona Warriors', protesting peacefully to expedite NEET PG Counselling 2021 were brutally thrashed, dragged and detained by the police," it alleged "There will be complete shutdown of all ,healthcare institutions from today onwards," the statement said.
In an official statement issued later, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Meena said, on Monday, a group of resident doctors "without having any authorised permission" blocked the BSZ Marg, main road between ITO and Delhi gate, and jammed the traffic for more than six hours".
"They deliberately created nuisance on the main road and blocked both carriageways, causing hardship and harassment to commuters and general public," he claimed in the statement.

The protest over the delay in <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/big-relief-for-protesting-doctors-sc-go-ahead-to-neet-pg-counselling-1641537524027" target="_blank">NEET-PG 2021 counselling</a>, led by the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association, has been going on for several days. The doctors body also said that several of its members were "detained" when they tried to hold a protest march from Maulana Azad Medical College to Supreme Court.
The federation has called upon all resident doctors associations across India for complete shutdown of healthcare services from Wednesday. The AIIMS Resident Doctors' Association has come out in support of the protests saying it shall shut down all non-emergency services on Wednesday if no adequate response is received from the government within 24 hours.

However, the police denied any allegations of using excessive force or abusive language and said only 12 protesters were detained and released later.
Junior doctors have said the delay in NEET-PG counselling continued to hold back new doctors from entering medical colleges.
FORDA president Manish claimed that resident doctors of a large number of major hospitals on Monday "returned their apron (lab coat) in a symbolic gesture of rejection of services".
"We also tried to march from the campus of the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) to Supreme Court, but soon after we had started it, security personnel did not allow us to proceed," he said.
Manish also alleged that several doctors were "detained" by police force, and taken to police station premises, before being released after some time. He also alleged that "police force was used and many doctors were injured" during their dramatic face-off.
In a statement issued later, FORDA said it was a "black day in the history of the medical fraternity".
"Resident doctors, the so-called 'Corona Warriors', protesting peacefully to expedite NEET PG Counselling 2021 were brutally thrashed, dragged and detained by the police," it alleged "There will be complete shutdown of all ,healthcare institutions from today onwards," the statement said.
In an official statement issued later, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Meena said, on Monday, a group of resident doctors "without having any authorised permission" blocked the BSZ Marg, main road between ITO and Delhi gate, and jammed the traffic for more than six hours".
"They deliberately created nuisance on the main road and blocked both carriageways, causing hardship and harassment to commuters and general public," he claimed in the statement.

In the wake of the rising Covid-19 cases, the Delhi government has decided to impose a night curfew from 11pm to 5am from Monday. 
Delhi reported 290 fresh coronavirus cases on Sunday, a 16% jump from Saturday, while the positivity rate rose to 0.55%, according to the Delhi govt. It was also the highest daily spike in Delhi since June 10. 
A 'yellow alert' and the restrictions that come with it will be imposed in the national capital if the positivity rate stays at or above 0.5% for two consecutive days. 
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority in July had approved the Graded Action Plan in anticipation of a third wave of Covid. It aims to bring in a clearer picture of imposition and lifting of restrictions depending on the Covid situation.
Curfew from 10 pm to 5 am will be imposed during Yellow, Amber and Orange alerts. If 'Red' alert is sounded, there will be 'total curfew'.
A 'yellow alert' would also include restrictions on private offices, malls, theatres and other public spaces.

DJB minister Satyendar Jain, in an official statement, said that now the water bill cannot be more than 1.5 times the previous month. If it exceeds this, an explanation will be provided to the customer, and he or she may file a complaint. The board will be accountable and responsible for any errors. The move will strengthen the revenue management system of the board, he added.
According to the minister, there will be an automatic system check to stop billing from the meter readers tablet if consumption variance is more than 50% higher or lower in comparison to the previous bill.
"This step will curb the erroneous reading bills that were being generated," the statement mentioned.

Better late than never, heaving a sigh of relief fuel consumers of Delhi got a present from CM Kejriwal on the first day of December as the state govt decided to finally cut VAT on petrol by Rs 8/litre. This reduction though a relief has been long awaited since the excise cut by the central govt. The downward revision on taxes however is still short compared to the Rs 12 cut done by neighbours Haryana & Uttar Pradesh. The Centre had announced a reduction of Rs 5 per litre in the excise duty on petrol and a Rs 10 per litre on diesel in the first week of November, after fuel prices touched a record high. Since then, opposition parties in Delhi have been urging the state government to cut VAT on petrol at their end as well.Even the Delhi Petrol dealers association had written a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asking to cut taxes as fuel in Delhi had become expensive by more than ₹9 in petrol than neighbouring states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.Since 2014, the VAT on fuel has increased six times in the national capital. The last time, Delhi government hiked the VAT was on July 31, 2020 on both the fuel products.

A video allegedly showing former Congress MLA Asif Khan in Delhi's Okhla caning and abusing staff of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) for reportedly removing hoardings and posters put up by him has gone viral. 
The video of the incident, purportedly shows Khan beating four men with a stick and directing them to hold their ears while doing squats, surfaced on Friday. 
Khan told PTI he had noticed that for quite some time that hoardings put up by him in the area were swiftly removed while those of a local AAP MLA and municipal corporations remained untouched.
Reacting to the incident, police on Friday said they will be registering an FIR in the matter.

However, Khan said he had no knowledge that they were SDMC staff.
"I don't know who they were. I have also received no call or a message from the SDMC about the incident," he said.
A senior SDMC official who wished to remain anonymous said that the people being subjected to "disrespect" belong to the civic body.
The remunerative projects cell of the municipal corporation is responsible for removing unauthorised advertisement materials and encroachments.
