The CRPF has introduced a groundbreaking online service allowing the public to adopt retired sniffer and assault dogs, providing these four-legged soldiers with a comfortable second life. Over 30 dogs from various breeds are available for adoption.

The CRPF has introduced a first-of-its-kind online service, enabling the public to adopt retired sniffer and assault dogs from India's largest paramilitary force, ensuring that these four-legged soldiers get a comfortable second life.
This initiative marks the first time any security force has made its trained dogs available for public adoption. In the past, there were concerns over the potential misuse of these highly trained and motivated dogs by anti-national groups. Until now, retired dogs from the central forces and state police were handed over to registered NGOs or reputable organizations for their care.
Now, over 30 dogs from four breeds&mdash;Belgian Shepherd Malinois, German Shepherd, Labrador, and the indigenous Mudhol Hound&mdash;are available for adoption through a comprehensive process monitored by the CRPF's specialized Dog Breeding and Training School (DBTS) near Bengaluru.
These dogs, aged between 8 and 12 years, have been part of numerous operations in anti-Naxal, counter-insurgency, and counter-terrorism efforts across the country. Their actions have saved the lives of many soldiers, especially by detecting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and preventing deadly ambushes laid by Maoists and terrorists. Dogs like Baloo, Sweety, Veeru, Moby, Coco, and Stroll have undergone intense training in various roles, including explosive detection, tracking, infantry patrol, and assault.
The adoption process is free, and potential adopters can view basic details and pictures of the dogs available for adoption on the CRPF website. Interested parties must complete a form that outlines their reasons for adopting the dog, how they plan to care for the canine (e.g., as a companion, guard, or therapy dog), and provide accommodation details.
A compatibility meeting will be arranged between the adopter and the dog at a designated camp. The dogs will be groomed by behavior experts to help them adjust to a domestic environment. A brief profile, picture, and citation for each dog, referred to as "soldier buddies," will be available on the CRPF portal. It is emphasized that the adopter should treat the dog with dignity, compassion, and due care.
The CRPF will sign a legally binding agreement with the adopter, providing the KCI (Kennel Club of India) registration certificate, vaccination records, and other important documents for the dog.
"Initiating public adoption of our retired dogs is an effort to ensure a happy second life for our canine soldiers," said CRPF Deputy Inspector General Moses Dhinakaran.
Clear terms and conditions are in place to ensure no abuse or ill-treatment of the dogs. They cannot be sold or used for any commercial purposes or deployed against any individual. The CRPF will conduct periodic checks and maintain regular communication with the adopters through short videos and live videoconferencing. The adopter is also responsible for providing emotional and therapeutic care, especially if the dog is found to be distressed.
Through this initiative, the CRPF hopes to ensure that these brave and loyal dogs find a loving home and family. The force highlights the temperament of Zina, a Belgian Shepherd Malinois, as an example of an ideal companion&mdash;loyal and protective, yet gentle, making her perfect for families.
With over 3.25 lakh personnel, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is India&rsquo;s leading internal security force, operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying said that these breeds of dogs, which have already been kept as pets, should be sterilised to prevent further breeding.

The central government has directed states to ban the sale and breeding of 23 breeds of ferocious dogs, including Pitbull Terrier, American Bulldog, Rottweiler and Mastiffs, amid rising instances of people dying due to pet dog attacks.
The directive issued to states and Union Territories bars people from keeping as many as 23 breeds of dogs as pets.
In a letter dated March 12 to chief secretaries of all states and UTs, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying also said that these breeds of dogs, which have already been kept as pets, should be sterilised to prevent further breeding.
Flagging serious recent issues of death of human beings due to dog bites by some ferocious breeds of dogs kept as pets, the department said it has received representations from citizens, citizen forums and Animal Welfare Organisations (AWOs) to ban some of the breeds of dogs from keeping them as pets and other purposes.
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying had set up an expert committee under the chairmanship of the Animal Husbandry Commissioner with members from various stakeholder organisations and experts in view of the representations.
The panel has identified 23 breeds of dogs, including mixed and cross breeds, as ferocious and also dangerous for human lives.
Pitbull Terrier, Tosa Inu, American Staffordshire Terrier, Fila Brasileiro, Dogo Argentino, American Bulldog, Boerboel Kangal, Central Asian Shepherd Dog and Caucasian Shepherd Dog are among the breeds sought to be banned from the Centre.
Other breeds include South Russian Shepherd Dog, Tornjak, Sarplaninac, Japanese Tosa and Akita, Mastiffs, Terriers, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Wolf Dogs, Canario, Akbash Dog, Moscow Guard Dog, Cane Corso and Bandog.
"...the above dog breeds, including crossbreeds, shall be prohibited for import, breedings, selling as pet dogs and other purposes," the letter said, quoting the recommendations of the expert panel.
The Centre's Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying has asked local bodies and state-level departments of animal husbandry not to issue any license or permit for the sale and breeding of banned dog breeds.
The Centre has published the Prevention of Cruelty to the Animal (Dog Breeding and Marketing) rules, 2017 and the Prevent of Cruelty to Animal (pet shop) rules, 2018.
In the letter, Joint Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying O P Chaudhary said implementation of the rules is vested in local bodies and state animal welfare boards as well as the Department of Animal Husbandry.

The video of the incident that has also gone viral on the internet in shows the two-year-old boy's mother carrying him and walking on the road when one of the dogs comes out of his house and attacks them. The mother and the child fall down.&nbsp;
In the video, the woman struggles to protect the boy but the dog pulls the boy and bites his leg. A man rushes towards them and picks up the child but the dog continues its attack.&nbsp;
The owner also intervened and tried to control the animal but a second dog was seen running towards the boy and attacking him.&nbsp;
Tanuj Narang, the toddler's father said that his wife and son were returning from a temple when one of their neighbours allegedly opened the gate and her pet dogs ran out and attacked his son.
Police said that the child is stable now and a case has been against the couple under IPC sections 289 and 337.&nbsp;

Greater Noida youth held for sexually abusing dog, throwing it from his balcony

The youth was spotted by his neighbour while he was allegedly sexually abusing the dog on his balcony in Greater Noida.&nbsp;

A 28-year-old man, accused of sexually abusing a female dog and throwing her to the ground from his third-floor house, was arrested by the police in Greater Noida on Thursday, officials said.
The incident took place around last midnight when the accused was with the dog in the balcony of his third-floor house in the Alpha 2 area but a neighbour spotted him and raised an alarm, they said.
&ldquo;Upon hearing the neighbour's scream, the accused threw the female dog on the street from the balcony. The dog is injured. The accused has been arrested this evening after an FIR was lodged in the case,&rdquo; Vinod Kumar Mishra, in charge of the local Beta 2 police station told PTI.
&ldquo;The accused works in a private construction company. At the time of the incident, he was apparently under the influence of a toxic substance,&rdquo; Mishra added.
The accused has been booked under Indian Penal Code Section 377 (carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal), while charges have also been invoked under The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, police said.
Further legal proceedings in the case are underway, the police added.&nbsp;

In the study, it was mentioned that dogs biting humans increase with rising temperatures and ozone levels. It was further noted that there is a correlation between UV irradiation levels and higher cases of dog bites.&nbsp;
For the study, the team analysed 69,525 reports of dogs biting humans. It was observed in the study that the cases of dog biting increased on hot and humid days and decreased on rainy and colder days.&nbsp;
The researchers explained that "behavior may be influenced by a general stress response to pollutants triggered by lung inflammatory messengers, and more direct effects on brain function are also possible."
It was also noted that ozone is highly reactive and that triggers oxidative stress in the airways which impairs the breathing function in the animals.

The dog ignored them and paddled after the 12-foot (3.7 metre) shark, which thrashed as the two animals circled each other in transparent turquoise waters near a private island in the southern Bahamas.
Then the shark swam away slowly, much to the delight and surprise of the crowd.
The shark had emerged from under the boat during a tour Wednesday in the southern Bahamas organized by Exuma Water Sports.
Company reservations manager Rebecca Lightbourn told The Associated Press on Friday that the black-and-tan dog always runs along the shore to greet the boat when it passes that island.
But it&rsquo;s the first time it was seen diving in.

As per the findings of researchers at Kyoto University, Japan, it was found that dogs specifically judge the competence of humans. In the study, 74 pet dogs took part, out of which 43 were females and 31 were males.&nbsp;
In the experiments, there were groups of humans who had to open a transparent container and in this, one person had to open the lid, which would make them competent and the other would not be able to open it, making that person incompetent.&nbsp;
This experiment would then be repeated with different containers and it was observed that when the containers had food in them, the dogs were looking at the competent person for longer than the incompetent person.&nbsp;
It was also found that female dogs looked slightly longer than males at the competent person to open the lid of the container that had food in it.&nbsp;

He said all the injured people are undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
The police and civic authorities have intensified the search for the dog, he said, adding security personnel have also been deployed in certain areas.&nbsp;

The great Indian "wedding season" came early in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh when seven-month-old female dog Jelly got hitched to his beloved Tommy on Saturday.
With the beating of "dhols" and garlanding of "bride and groom", the "wedding procession" was no less than that of Indian rituals.
Tommy, the pet dog of Dinesh Chaudhary, the former Sukhravali village head, took pheras with the seven-month-old female dog Jelly of Dr Ramprakash Singh, a resident of Tikri Raipur in Atrauli.
Tommy and Jelly's wedding was fixed for January 14, the day of Makar Sankranti. On the wedding day, the bride's side from Tikri Raipur reached Sukhravali village. The people who came from Jelly's "family" applied 'Tilak' to Tommy.
After that, Tommy's "Baraat" procession followed with the Baraatis tapping their feet on dhol beats. After the wedding procession reached the bride Jelly's venue, garlands were exchanged between the duo. After which "both of them were served dishes, prepared with desi ghee."
"On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, we organised the wedding. Desi Ghee food was also distributed among the neighbourhood dogs. We spent around Rs 40,000-45,000 for it," said Dinesh, owner of Tommy. After which the 'Vidaai' ceremony was performed.
