Responding to Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's remark, "PoK will be merged with India," Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah said on Sunday that Pakistan is not wearing bangles and also has atom bombs that will fall on us.
"If the defence minister is saying it, then go ahead. Who are we to stop? But remember, they (Pakistan) are also not wearing bangles. It has atom bombs, and unfortunately, that atom bomb will fall on us," he said.
Earlier in April, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that considering the development taking place in India, the people of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) will themselves demand to be with India.
"Don't worry. PoK was, is and will remain ours," Mr Singh said, addressing a rally at West Bengal's Darjeeling, where the BJP had nominated sitting MP Raju Bista.
"India's power is increasing. India's prestige is increasing around the world, and our economy is fast progressing. Now our brothers and sisters in PoK will themselves demand to come with India," Mr Singh further said.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday said that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is part of India and added that there is a resolution of the Indian Parliament which states that PoK is part of the country.
He noted that people were made to forget about PoK, however, it is now back in the consciousness of the people of India.

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Sunday condemned the terrorist attack on a convoy of Indian Air Force (IAF) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch and said the menace of terror is still alive in the Union Territory.
Abdullah, a former chief minister, said the BJP government's claim that Article 370 was responsible for terrorism now stands exposed, reiterating his stand that only dialogue between India and Pakistan can end the threat in the region.
One IAF soldier died and four others were injured when terrorists attacked a security convoy in the Surankote area of Poonch district Saturday evening.
Talking to PTI videos in an exclusive interview here, the NC leader said terror attacks like the one on the IAF convoy have been afflicting the region for the past many months.
"That area has been disturbed for many months. Incidents have taken place in Rajouri, Surankote and other adjacent areas," he said and paid his tributes to the dead and prayed for early recovery of the injured.
As far as terrorism is concerned, he said, the BJP government will claim that Article 370 was responsible for it, but even after its abrogation on August 5, 2019, the terrorism is still there.
"I believe the Cold War between India and Pakistan is responsible for it. Till the two countries do not start a dialogue process and find a solution to this issue, it won't stop," Abdullah said.
He said both countries are nuclear nations and it will lead to destruction if there is no dialogue.
"It is very important to consider the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. But they kept playing with the emotions of our people," he said.
Expressing confidence in the India bloc that it will win all six Lok Sabha seats in J-K and Ladakh, he said, "If India alliance wins, we will not only initiate a dialogue process with our neighbour but will also try to save the Constitution of India, the Constitution that was framed by B R Ambedkar." "Many things will change. Our election commission will be independent once again. Our judiciary will be independent. They won't work as per the whims and fancies of BJP. Things will be done in the interest of people because they are the authority," he asserted.
Talking about his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2021 in New Delhi, Abdullah said he requested the PM to lessen the distance between 'Dilli ki doori aur dil ki doori' "but despite being assured about the release of those arrested on August 5, 2019, they are still behind the bars." "I had just recovered from COVID and I was weak but I still went to meet him. I said the people who were arrested after August 5 needed to be released. They said they would form a committee. Home Minister (Amit Shah) and Lt Governor (Manoj Sinha) were also present in that meeting.
"They said those who were not involved in any anti-national activity would be released but nothing happened. It has been more than four years now," he said. "This is not the way to build relationships." On Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's statement that India is the land of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna, Abdullah said, "It not only alienates Muslims but also Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Zoroastrians, who belong to this nation." Abdullah said the BJP knows that it is on the verge of losing the election and that's why it is using religion to divide the people.
"You must have heard PM Modi's recent statements about 'mangalsutra'. Does he only represent Hindus of this country?" he asked.
"He (Modi) must talk about unity but the only thing he talks about is how to divide communities in the name of religion. It does not suit him at all," the Kashmiri leader added.&nbsp;

The Enforcement Directorate has summoned National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Thursday for questioning in a money laundering case, official sources said on Wednesday.
The 86-year-old politician is understood to have been called in connection with the federal agency's investigation into alleged irregularities in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
The MP from Srinagar Lok Sabha seat was charge-sheeted by Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the case in 2022.
The case relates to siphoning off the funds of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association by way of transfer to various personal bank accounts of unrelated parties, including those of JKCA office bearers, and by way of unexplained cash withdrawals from JKCA bank accounts, the ED had said.
The agency's case is based on a 2018 charge-sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against the same accused.
The summons have asked Abdullah, a former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, to depose at the ED office in Srinagar.&nbsp;

He said the biggest problem for the residents was non-availability of electricity. "We have provided them with a solar system long back but the population in these villages has increased and they are demanding additional solar lights." Abdullah, an MP from Srinagar, said since the winter in the area was very harsh, the villagers had a genuine demand for a helicopter service to evacuate patients for timely medical attention and for deployment of doctors on a rotational basis.
The NC leader said that he, along with his two MPs Masoodi and Mohd Akbar Lone, would take up the issue of construction of a road tunnel to connect the Warwan-Marwah belt with the Kashmir valley with Union minister Nitin Gadkari.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister questioned the decision to set up tents and "langar" (community kitchen) at such a vulnerable area.

"The location of the tents and langars is such that I do not think these things were done there earlier. Panjtarni is such a nice area for this. This needs to be investigated, may be it is a human error," Abdullah said.
He said the kin of the victims should be given compensation and steps should be taken to ensure that such incidents do not take place again.

A senior minister in the Narendra Modi&nbsp;government has asked National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah to "settle" in Pakistan after the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister batted for talks with Islamabad.
Union minister of parliamentary affairs Pralhad Joshi on Tuesday hit out at the NC leader asking him to "settle" in the neighbouring country.
&ldquo;He has said many times that India should talk to Pakistan. If he likes Pakistan so much, then he should settle there,&rdquo; Pralhad Joshi said, according to news agency ANI.

On Monday, Farooq Abdullah asked the government to hold talks with Pakistan and find a way to bring peace in Kashmir, following the terror attack which claimed the lives of three cops in Srinagar. The NC leader said both India and Pakistan should "shed their egos" and come forward for dialogue, according to news agency PTI.
In a veiled dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the NC leader also remarked that India needs a &ldquo;bold" prime minister who can hold everybody together -- be it Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, or anybody, reported PTI.

Former chief minister Farooq Abdullah will chair the People&rsquo;s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD)&rsquo;s meeting at his residence on Tuesday.
The constituents of an alliance formed in Jammu &amp; Kashmir last year for the restoration of the region&rsquo;s special status will meet to formulate a strategy for Pm Modi&rsquo;s all-party meeting on the erstwhile state June 24.
Abdullah&rsquo;s National Conference (NC) and Mehbooba Mufti&rsquo;s People&rsquo;s Democratic Party, which is another constituent of PAGD, have earlier held the meetings of their parties and authorised their chiefs to take the final call over the issue.
PAGD spokesman said &nbsp;a joint strategy will be adopted after consulting all the leaders of the alliance.

The Gupkar alliance of mainstream political parties in&nbsp;Jammu and Kashmir has accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation for an all-party meeting on June 24.&nbsp;
The decision was taken at a meeting of the alliance chaired by&nbsp;Former chief minister Farooq Abdullah&nbsp;in Srinagar.&nbsp;The meeting was convened to formulate a strategy for PM Modi&rsquo;s all-party meeting on the erstwhile state.
Abdullah said that he will attend the meeting along with PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and others.
Gupkar&nbsp;Alliance that is&nbsp;looking to restore J&amp;K's special status said they would keep their agenda before PM Modi&nbsp;and Home Minister Amit&nbsp;Shah.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected a plea seeking action against former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah for his comments on scrapping of Article 370. The court said that it was not seditious to have views different from the government. The petition had demanded that Abdullah's membership of Parliament be declared null and void and sedition charges be slapped on him under Section 124-A of IPC. The court also directed the petitioners to deposit ₹50,000 for filing the petition.

The Enforcement Directorate on Monday questioned former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah in connection with a money laundering probe in a case related to the alleged embezzlement of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association funds. They said the National Conference president's statement will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The ED case is based on an FIR filed by the CBI, which booked former JKCA office-bearers, including general secretary Mohammed Saleem Khan and former treasurer Ahsan Ahmad Mirza. The ED said its probe found that JKCA received Rs 94.06 crore from BCCI in three different bank accounts during financial years 2005-2006 to 2011-2012 (up to December 2011). 
NC leader Omar Abdullah hit back on Twitter, saying that the National Conference would be responding to the ED summons shortly. He added, it was nothing less then political vendetta coming days after the formation of the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration.

"Ms. Mehbooba Mufti being released," JK government spokesman Rohit Kansal tweeted.
Mehbooba, who became the first woman chief minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir in 2016 as head of the PDP-BJP alliance, was arrested along with other leaders hours ahead of the Centre bifurcating the state into two union territories and abrogating Article 370.
She was first detained under Sections 107 and&nbsp;151 of CrPC but later booked under the controversial Public Safety Act.
Initially, Mehbooba was lodged at Cheshma Shahi guest house and then shifted to another government guest house at M A Link Road here.
The PDP president was then taken to her residence where she remained under house arrest.
Mehbooba's daughter, Iltija, had challenged her detention in the Supreme Court, which last heard the case on September 29.

In an interview to news portal The Wire, Adbullah said that the reason for the "anti-India" mood is that people in Kashmir can no longer trust the government. He added that it was easy for Kashmiris to go with Pakistan during partition, but they "joined Gandhi's India and not Modi's India".
