Amritpal Singh, associates booked in a fresh FIR for possession of illegal weapons

Speaking to reporters in Amritsar on Sunday, the SSP said police had arrested seven associates of the self-styled Sikh preacher near Mehatpur in Jalandhar on Saturday.

A fresh FIR was lodged against radical preacher Amritpal Singh and some of his associates on Sunday in connection with the possession of illegal weapons, a senior police officer said.
Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police Satinder Singh said seven of Amritpal's associates have been arrested under Arms Act. Punjab Police had on Saturday launched a major crackdown against Amritpal, with police arresting 78 members of an outfit headed by him.
However, the hunt is on to catch Amritpal who gave the police a slip when his cavalcade was intercepted in Jalandhar district on Saturday.
Police had already registered an FIR in the February 23 Ajnala incident against Amritpal and his associates.
Speaking to reporters in Amritsar on Sunday, the SSP said police had arrested seven associates of the self-styled Sikh preacher near Mehatpur in Jalandhar on Saturday.
They were part of Amritpal's convoy, the police officer said.
He said six 12 bore guns and some cartridges have been seized, which are illegal.
Referring to the arrest of seven accused on Saturday night, the SSP said, "We have registered a fresh FIR last night now under the Arms Act in which Amritpal is the key accused. All seven are also accused in this fresh FIR."&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the chief coach of Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, Vimal Kumar said in a statement that the allegations were "baseless, frivolous and made with malicious intent".
The complainant alleged that Kumar colluded with Lakshya's parents to forge a birth certificate in 2010. If the charges are proven, the star Indian shuttler, who was awarded the Arjuna recently, will have to forego a lot of his records.
Lakshya was also a runner-up in the All England Championships and played a key role in India's historic Thomas Cup triumph earlier this year.

Five doctors of a private hospital in Noida have been booked for alleged negligence in treatment of a Covid-19 patient which led to his death during the second wave of the pandemic in 2021, officials said on Monday.
The family of the patient, who was in his early 20s, claimed that he was not administered remdesivir injection in time at the hospital despite them purchasing it on the basis of doctor's prescription, according to the FIR.
The first information report (FIR) has been lodged against the doctors of Yatharth Hospital at the Phase 2 police station under Indian Penal Code section 304A (causing death by negligence) over a complaint by Gautam Buddh Nagar's deputy chief medical officer Dr Tikam Singh.
Dr Singh also headed an official probe committee which had investigated the complaint of the Ghaziabad-based family and the allegations to be true.
However, Yatharth Hospital's managing director Kapil Tyagi claimed that the allegations were misplaced.
&ldquo;The patient was brought to our hospital in a critical condition. I believe had there been a delay of even half an hour, the patient would not have survived. But here his condition started improving and after about 35 days, the family took him to another hospital in Delhi,&rdquo; Tyagi told PTI.
He said the team of doctors at the hospital did a good job at their end, considering the challenging situation during the second wave of the pandemic last year.
&ldquo;Also, on the family's allegation of not administering remdesivir injection in time, there are multiple research reports which later showed remdesivir had no impact in treating coronavirus. We understand that the family has lost a young child and it is very unfortunate,&rdquo; Tyagi said.
Paramhans Tiwari, the in-charge of the Phase 2 police station, said the police are investigating the matter and further action would be taken on the basis of findings of their probe.&nbsp;
