A 19-year-old Indian student in the US has reportedly been expelled and will be deported to India for submitting fake college application and documents.
According to an India Today report on June 28, 2024, the student whose identity has not been revealed, even faked his father&rsquo;s death to secure a full scholarship at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
The first-year student&rsquo;s admission was revoked after a Reddit user exposed the fraud in a post. The Indian student in the US has confessed to falsifying transcripts and financial documents, as part of his scheme. He was initially arrested after he pleaded guilty to forgery on June 12.

According to an Indian Express report on 27 August 2023, Sherpuria had allegedly taken control of the Delhi Riding Club near the PM's residence after paying its owner Rs 40 lakh on the pretext of taking care of her in old age.
As per the ED chargesheet, Sherpuria relocated the elderly woman to a rented place in Gurgaon and moved his family into her property in 2017 from where he ran his operations.&nbsp;
Sherpuria was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force in April for fraudulently 'misusing' the PM&rsquo;s name for personal gain and allegedly faking access to the PMO and Cabinet Ministers to allegedly dupe businessmen. The UP STF action had been taken on a reference from ED which first began probing him.

As per a survey around 39% of families in a survey claimed to have experienced financial fraud in the last three years and only 24% of them got their funds back

Around 39% of families in a survey claimed to have experienced financial fraud in the last three years and only 24% of them got their funds back, LocalCircles said in a report on Tuesday.
23% of respondents in the survey indicated to have experienced credit or debit card fraud while 13% indicated fraud by buying, selling and classified site users.
As per the survey, 13% were defrauded by websites taking money for products that were not delivered, 10% indicated ATM card fraud, another 10% indicated bank account fraud and 16% mentioned other frauds.
"The data shows 30% of those surveyed had one member in the family who had been a victim of financial fraud while 9% indicated that multiple members in their family have been subject to financial fraud in the last three years. Of the remaining 57 per cent were thankful they or their family members had escaped such an experience and 4 per cent gave no clear response," online survey firm LocalCircles said in the report.
The firm said that the survey received nearly 32,000 responses from families located in 331 districts of India comprising 66 per cent male respondents and 34% women.
About 39% of respondents were from tier 1, 35% from tier 2 and 26% of respondents were from tier 3, 4 and rural districts.
When asked if the victims were able to get their funds, 24% of the 11,305 responses received indicated that they were able to get back their funds while 70% could not get any resolution to their complaint.
The data showed 18% filed a complaint with the designated platform or entity and got back the money and 6% filed a complaint with authorities and got back the funds.

About half of Indians surveyed said that they are unable to differentiate between the real and cloned voice of a person while 83 per cent of the victims of voice scams have faced the loss of money, online security firm McAfee said in a report.
The survey of 7,054 people was conducted in seven countries, including 1,010 respondents from India, around artificial intelligence-enabled voice scams by imposters.
The report suggests using a verbal codeword among family members and trusted close friends as one of the protective measures from voice scams.
'About half (47 per cent) of Indian adults have experienced or know someone who has experienced some kind of AI voice scam, which is almost double the global average (25 per cent). 83 per cent of Indian victims said they had a loss of money- with 48 per cent losing over Rs 50,000,' the report said.
McAfee conducted a survey on how artificial intelligence (AI) technology is fueling a rise in online voice scams, with just three seconds of audio required to clone a person's voice.
'The survey reveals that more than half (69 per cent) of Indians think they don&rsquo;t know or cannot tell the difference between an AI voice and real voice,' the report said.
The survey found 66 per cent of the Indian respondents said they would reply to a voicemail or voice note purporting to be from a friend or loved one in need of money.
'Particularly if they thought the request had come from their parent (46 per cent), partner or spouse (34 per cent), or child (12 per cent). Messages most likely to elicit a response were those claiming that the sender had been robbed (70 per cent), was involved in a car incident (69 per cent), lost their phone or wallet (65 per cent) or needed help while travelling abroad (62 per cent),' the report said. The survey also found that the rise of deep fakes and disinformation has led to people being warier of what they see online, with 27 per cent of Indian adults saying they are now less trusting of social media than ever before and 43 per cent being concerned over the rise of misinformation or disinformation.
'Artificial Intelligence brings incredible opportunities, but with any technology, there is always the potential for it to be used maliciously in the wrong hands. This is what we&rsquo;re seeing today with the access and ease of use of AI tools helping cybercriminals to scale their efforts in increasingly convincing ways,' McAfee CTO Steve Grobman said

&ldquo;It is clarified that RBI does not deal in such matters and never seeks charges/ commissions of any sort. RBI has also not authorised any institution/ firm/ person to collect charges/ commission on its behalf in such transactions,&rdquo; the regulator said.

&ldquo;It was alleged that Rana Kapoor conspired with the others named in the FIR to obtain illegal gratification in the form of a bunglow at Amrita Shergill Marg, New Delhi, by paying only Rs 378 crore (approximately) through Bliss Abode Private Limited, where Rana&rsquo;s wife was one of the two directors,&rdquo; said the CBI FIR registered last year.
