Two minor girls were found hanging from a tree near the brick kiln they were working in at a village in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, days after they were allegedly gang-raped.

Two girls were found hanging from a tree in a field near the brick kiln they were working in here in a village in the Ghatampur area &mdash; days after they were allegedly raped, police said on Thursday.
Family members have alleged that the minor girls were raped a few days ago by the contractor of the brick kiln, Ramroop Nishad, (48), his son Raju (18) and nephew Sanjay (19), Additional CP (law and order) Harish Chandra said. All three accused have been arrested, he said.
According to the families, the accused had also made a video of the act to blackmail the girls due to which they took the extreme step on Wednesday, Chandra said.
The victims went missing on Wednesday and hours later in the evening, their bodies were found hanging from a tree, 400 metres from the brick kiln, the ACP said.
He said all three accused who are residents of Hamirpur district in UP have been arrested. &ldquo;We have recovered videos and photographs of the girls from mobiles of the accused which would be sent for forensic examinations,&rdquo; the officer said.
The accused have been booked under the Indian Penal Code sections 376D (gang rape), 306 (abetment of suicide) and the Protection Of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Chandra said.
The bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death and verify gang rape charges, he said.

26-year-old techie allegedly gang-raped in Jharkhand, 12 detained

Twelve people were detained for interrogation in connection with the incident, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) Dilip Khalko said.

A 26-year-old software engineer was allegedly raped by around 10 men in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, police said on Saturday.
The woman, who works at a well-known IT company and is here as she is working from home, was out with her boyfriend on a two-wheeler on Thursday evening when the incident took place near the old aerodrome in Chaibasa, they said.
A group of eight-ten men stopped the couple, beat the boyfriend up and allegedly raped the woman after taking her to a secluded spot, police said.
Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar said that a case was registered at the Muffasil police station and an investigation was underway to identify those behind the incident.
Twelve people were detained for interrogation in connection with the incident, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) Dilip Khalko said.
After raping her, the accused left her at the spot and fled. They also took away her wallet and mobile phone.
The woman somehow managed to reach home, and told her family about the incident after which they filed a police complaint.
Her medical check-up was conducted at the Sadar Hospital.
The BJP demanded Chief Minister Hemant Soren's resignation over the incident.
Soren's government is absolutely insensitive towards the incidents of rape that have happened in the state over the last three years, former chief minister Raghubar Das of the BJP told PTI.
A sense of insecurity is prevailing among the people of the state as law and order has completely broken down, he claimed.
"Soren, who is also facing corruption charges with uncertainty looming large over his tenure, should immediately resign on moral ground as Jharkhand in becoming the rape capital," he added.
The ruling JMM said that those accused of the gang rape in Chaibasa will not be spared, and police are working to ensure stringent punishment against them.
"The state government has been taking prompt action in such cases and will do it in the Chaibasa incident as well," JMM spokesperson Mohan Karmakar said, rejecting the BJP's allegations as an attempt to tarnish Soren's image.
BJP is nervous over the overwhelming support the Soren government is getting for its welfare programmes, he claimed.
"The government is making all possible efforts to further strengthen the police department," Karmakar said

The woman, a resident of Delhi, was found "wrapped in a jute bag, with her hands and legs tied and an iron rod inserted in her private part," the DCW said.

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued a notice to Ghaziabad police in connection with the brutal gang-rape of a 38-year-old woman recently, with the panel chief saying the attack reminded her of the Nirbhaya case.
The woman, a resident of Delhi, was found "wrapped in a jute bag, with her hands and legs tied and an iron rod inserted in her private part," the DCW said.
According to the panel, the woman was waiting for an auto-rickshaw in Ghaziabad to attend her brother's birthday celebration on October 16 when four men kidnapped her in an SUV.
They, along with another man, allegedly gang-raped and tortured her for two days, it said.
The woman is being treated at a hospital in Delhi, but is in a "very critical condition", it said.
The notice has been issued to Ghaziabad Senior Superintendent of Police seeking an action taken report and a copy of the FIR along with details of arrests made.
DCW chief Swati Maliwal said, "The incident is very horrific and disturbing. It reminds me of the Nirbhaya case. All accused must be arrested immediately and strict action taken against them. I fail to understand how long women and children be subjected to such extreme brutality.

A teenage girl died after she attended the birthday party of a Trinamool Congress leader’s son in West Bengal’s Hanskhali. Levelling gang-rape charges, the 14-year-old’s family claimed that she went to the residence of the accused, Brajagopal, to attend his birthday party but returned home in an ailing condition.
The girl’s mother said that her daughter was bleeding profusely and had severe abdominal pain but before she could take her to hospital, she died. The family also alleged that a group of people forcibly took the minor’s body for cremation even before her death certificate was issued.
The prime accused, Brajagopal, who was first detained and then arrested, has been slapped with POCSO charges, apart from rape, murder and suppression of evidence. Police said his family is absconding.
Stating that there should be no politics over the case, Bengal’s Minister of Women and Child Development, Sashi Panja, said the ruling party has zero tolerance for abuse of minors and women and justice will prevail.

Days after a 20-year-old woman was allegedly abducted, gang-raped and paraded naked on streets in an east Delhi colony by her neighbours, it transpired on Sunday that her younger sister too had been assaulted by her assailants.
Acting on the complaint of the 18-year-old younger sister of the victim of the shocking incident at Kasturba Nagar, police have lodged another case against her assailants, including eight women, one man and three juveniles, who have already been apprehended, police said on Sunday.
Shahdara Deputy Commissioner of Police R Sathiyasundaram said the police have already arrested nine people, eight women and one man, and detained three minor boys for their alleged roles in the crime against the elder sister.
The victim’s younger sister came forward with her complaint after the police arrested them, he said adding she alleged that she too was harassed, molested and thrashed by the assailants of her sister days before the incident involving her elder sister.
In the complaint, the younger sister has alleged that she was attacked and beaten up on January 19 and her auto was also set on fire.
They had also created a ruckus at her workplace because of which she had to leave her job, the DCP said, quoting from her complaint.
"When I stay at home, their (accused) women come and thrash me. When I step out, they (men) harass me. These people say that they aren’t scared of the police. (They) don’t let me work or earn any money. How am I supposed to run my house? I am in danger. They threaten me,” she alleged in her complaint.
The DCP said on her complaint, a separate case was registered on Saturday against all the people apprehended for assaulting the elder sister.
The second case was registered under various IPC sections on molestation, physical assault, criminal intimidation and mischief by fire among others, he said.
