More than 50 women workers of an apparel manufacturing unit near Visakhapatnam fell sick on Tuesday due to what was suspected to be a mysterious gas leak, the second such incident in two months.
The real cause of the sickness was, however, not immediately established as medical examination was being conducted.
While some of the workers were administered first aid in the medical centre in the special economic zone, some others were shifted to nearby hospitals, police sources said.
Some of the workers who fell sick were said to be pregnant.
On June 3 too a similar incident occurred in the same place where more than 200 women workers fell unconscious after complaining of eyesore, nausea and vomiting.
It was then suspected that ammonia gas leaked from a nearby Porus Laboratories unit.
A team of experts from the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology in Hyderabad visited the lab and conducted tests to determine the cause of the leak while the AP Pollution Control Board ordered closure of the lab.
The Porus lab was shut down for a few days after the mishap but soon resumed activities.
On Tuesday too the women workers had nausea and vomiting.
The Brandix SEZ employs thousands of workers, mostly women, in the garment manufacturing units.

Nearly 140 people, mainly women, working in an apparel unit in a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) near Visakhapatnam, fell sick following a suspected ammonium gas leak on Friday. No casualties were reported.
The gas was suspected to have leaked from Porus Laboratories located outside the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation SEZ at Atchyutapuram, but its impact was felt in the apparel unit inside the economic zone, where the workers immediately fell unconscious after complaining of eyesore and vomiting.
They were first taken to the health centre in the zone and later taken to hospitals in Anakapalli and Visakhapatnam.
State Industries Minister Gudivada Amarnath said there was no loss of life but many of the workers fell sick due to the gas leak.
Officials from the AP Pollution Control Board reached the laboratory premises and, along with engineers, checked the gas leak.
“We are investigating the cause of the gas leak. I have asked for a report on the incident. The situation is now under control,” the Industries Minister added.

"Incident of ammonia gas leakage reported. Three ambulances and 3 to 4 fire brigades are at the spot. Advised people to wear masks," said Jag Niwas, Deputy Commissioner, Jhajjar.

Six factory workers died and nearly 20 others fell unconscious after inhaling toxic fumes leaking from a chemical tanker parked near a factory in Gujarat's Surat district early on Thursday morning.
The workers were inside the dyeing factory, located in Sachin industrial area, when the incident took place.
The fire department received a call around 4.25 am, officials said, adding that 25 to 26 workers fell unconscious after inhaling the toxic fumes coming out of the chemical tanker parked on a roadside near the factory.
The fire department later managed to close the tanker's valve to stop the leakage.
The workers were rushed to the new civil hospital and at least six of them have so far died, officials said.
