Gambhir made a controvercial remark on de Villiers saying that anyone can score runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is the homeground of the Royal Challengers Bangalore. ABD played most of his IPL for RCB.

Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir said it is unfair to single out KL Rahul for scathing criticism as every player goes through lean phases in their respective career.
With clamour growing for Shubman Gill to replace Rahul for the third Test in Indore, Gambhir said that "Rahul should not be dropped from the Indian side."&nbsp;
Speaking to PTI on the sidelines of Lucknow Super Giants' pre-season camp ahead of IPL 2023, Gambhir stated that "no one, no cricket pundit or anyone should tell Rahul that he is not doing well and be dropped."
Citing Rohit Sharma's example, Gambhir said it's important to back talented players and like Rohit, Rahul can also find a late flourish.

After many calls for Virat to open for India in the T20 World Cup later this year, former India batter Gautam Gambhir has weighed in on the debate as he expresses his concern over the fans' reactionary beliefs.
Gambhir, who worked closely with the Indian Team's designated opener KL Rahul as a mentor during their stint at Lucknow Super Giants has said that the out-of-form batter probably has more ability that Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli and therefore should not feel under pressure at any moment of time.
He also dismissed the idea of Virat Kohli opening the innings of India as he explained that ' the moment someone starts doing very well, for example, if Virat Kohli has got a hundred in the last game, we all start forgetting about what KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma has done over such a long period of time.'
