There were also speculations about Virat and Rohit Sharma's future with the Indian team after the two senior cricketers announced their retirement from the shortest format.
GG made it clear that both of them are very much in the plans going forward.
"They have shown what they can deliver at the big stage. Whether it is the T20 World Cup or the ODI World Cup. I think both of them have a lot more cricket left in them. We&rsquo;ve got the Champions Trophy, a tour of Australia, so they will be motivated. If they keep their fitness then even the 2027 World Cup. To answer how much cricket is left in them is difficult. Any team that has players of their class would love to have them for as long as possible," Gambhir said in the press conference.
When asked what he made of the workload management of Rohit and Kohli, as well as pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, Gambhir stated that while the batters ideally should play all formats, pacers need to be used judiciously.
"I&rsquo;ve said it before, workload management for someone like Jasprit (Bumrah) is important. He is one rare bowler, that anyone would want. You want him to play important games. That&rsquo;s why the workload management for not just him but fast bowlers is important."
"If you are a batter, who&rsquo;s batting well, you might as well just play all formats. Rohit and Virat have retired from T20Is now, so they will play two formats from now. Hopefully, they are available for most of the games,&rdquo; he added.

Gambhir had earlier said that he would be honoured to coach Team India but had reportedly made two demands. One, that he will have his own support staff and second, that there should be separate teams for white ball and red ball cricket. Both of which were accepted by the BCCI.
Gambhir succeeds Rahul Dravid, whose tenure as the India head coach ended with the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph.
The 42-year-old was appointed as the mentor of IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders just last year and guided KKR to winning the tournament in his very first stint.
However, he will have to step down from that role now and Gambhir was even spotted in Kolkata recently where he reportedly shot a farewell video for KKR fans.

But Starc found support from KKR mentor Gambhir, who said: "It (his poor stats) doesn't matter, T20 cricket is all about bowlers getting smashed. We've got three wins out of four."

"There's no reason why you should talk about individual performance. I feel that Mitchell Starc has done reasonably okay. I think he's bowled some tough overs. And he will create an impact, what he's been picked for," he said.
A new start ======= Gambhir, who was Lucknow Super Giants&rsquo; mentor in last two seasons, has returned to his former team that won two titles (2012 and 2014) during his previous stint at KKR from 2011-17.
KKR could never win against LSG in three attempts while Gambhir was at the opposition dugout.
Gambhir said it's a new day and they would start from scratch.
"It's a new day, new start. What difference does it make that what has happened in the last two years? It really makes no difference. We start from scratch.
"All of us are really looking forward to the game tomorrow. You know, it's a quality side. But we are a quality side as well,&rdquo; he said.
Gambhir further reacted to criticism about their head coach Chandrakant Pandit&rsquo;s "militant style" of functioning.
"I don't read a lot about what has been said and stuff, but it's been early days. My working relationship with him has been really, really good and hopefully it continues that way.
&ldquo;He's been very successful in domestic cricket and that's why he got this opportunity, so far it's been really good working with him.&rdquo; Former KKR all-rounder David Wiese had earlier described Pandit as a strict disciplinarian and a &ldquo;militant-type&rdquo; coach.

Gautam Gambhir's captaincy had once helped Kolkata Knight Riders carve its own niche with two IPL titles in the last decade and now the self-confessed "tough to handle" guy has once again vowed to bring back smiles on the faces of their passionate but somewhat angry fans in days to come.
Turning fortunes of a beleaguered outfit is nothing new for Gambhir, who had taken KKR's charge during the fourth season of IPL in 2011 after the Shah Rukh co-owned team failed to reach the knock-out in first three years. In first year, the team reached knock-outs and then between 2012, 13 and 14, it won two titles.
With KKR's seventh place finishes in the last two seasons, Gambhir's presence is expected to inject fresh vigour and discipline into the squad. It will be interesting to see what kind of bond Gambhir forges with another strong-willed personality in the coaching staff - Chandrakant Pandit.
"Firstly, I want to say one thing -- I'm a very tough guy to handle," the former India opener asserted at the Knights Unplugged event at the team hotel.
Expressing his gratitude, Gambhir stated, "I have to thank SRK (team principal owner Shah Rukh Khan) and Venky bhai (CEO Venky Mysore) who is here as well... They have taken a lot of my tantrums, stubbornness for such a long period of time."

Acknowledging the trust placed in him, Gambhir added, "So, I have to thank the owner and the CEO for trusting me, and hopefully, we can achieve great success because it's the honesty SRK taught me -- honesty, dignity.
"Fans have all the right to be angry with us, to abuse us. We will fight for your joy and bring smiles to your faces.
"Keep supporting us. You have every right to be angry with us. We will ensure that Kolkata will be smiling in the end," Gambhir said.

The former captain reflected on the journey of Narine, highlighting how the spinner overcame adversity after being reported for a suspect bowling action to become their trump card in their twin triumphs.
"When I talk about sacrifice, this young shy boy comes to mind. He has endured so much in this jersey --reported, banned, yet he keeps coming back and delivering year after year.
