Bassal said a child was killed and several others wounded in a separate strike that hit a house in nearby Jabalia, where Israeli forces have focused their operations in recent months.
Overnight, a tent in an Israeli-designated safe zone in the southern Gaza Strip was hit, killing one Palestinian, according to the civil defence spokesman.
Parties to long-stalled ceasefire talks said a deal could be secured soon to halt the fighting and release hostages held in Gaza.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said on Tuesday that "cautious optimism is a fair way to characterise it, though very much tempered by realism".
Hamas said the current talks were "serious and positive", while Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz described the two sides as closer to a deal than ever before.
The war was sparked by an unprecedented Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of 1,208 people, most of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.

The only Hijab-clad federal lawmaker has been indefinitely suspended from the caucus. Defiantly she has responded saying she is punished for walking with her Muslim brothers and sisters who been voiceless for far too long.
"I walked with the people of Palestine, for the 40,000 killed, for the hungry and scared boys and girls who now walk alone without their parents and for the brave men and women who have to walk alone without their children," she said.
But why has she borne the brunt? For that a 130-year-old precedent of the Labor Party needs to be decoded. The precedent states that anyone crossing party lines and compromising on unanimity is subject to such strict penalties from the Labour Party.
While her own party is gunning for her head, the support for Fatima has come from unexpected quarters. Reacting to her revolt, Jewish Labor MP Josh Burns said balancing such perspectives can be difficult but must be done in a respectful manner.
In contrast, Fatima received pushback from Labour colleague Anne Aly, a lawmaker who was most expected to throw her support behind the Senator. Anne has been one of the biggest advocates of ending the hostilities in Gaza but distanced herself from Fatima.
"I choose to do things in a way I think will make a material difference on the ground. Fatima chooses to do it her way," she told local media.
Prime Minister Albanese also had sharp words for Fatima and stopped short of branding her a defector. He claimed that no individual is bigger than the team.
While it is unclear how long Fatima's political "exile" would last, the conflict in Gaza has been long-drawn. Nearly 38,000 people have been killed since Israel launched a its war on Gaza in October of 2023.

Atef Al-Buhaisi, 6, once dreamed of a career building houses. Now, all he craves is to return to school.
In Israel's war with Hamas, Atef's home has been bombed, his teacher killed and his school in Nuseirat turned into a refuge for displaced people.
He lives in a cramped tent with his family in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, where he sleeps clinging to his grandmother and fears walking alone even during the day.
Since the war erupted October 7, all of Gaza's schools have closed &mdash; leaving hundreds of thousands of students like Atef without formal schooling or a safe place to spend their days.
Aid groups are scrambling to keep children off the streets and their minds focused on something other than the war, as heavy fighting continues across the enclave and has expanded into the southern city of Rafah and intensified in the north.
&ldquo;What we&rsquo;ve lost most is the future of our children and their education,&rdquo; said Irada Ismael, Atef&rsquo;s grandmother.
"Houses and walls are rebuilt, money can be earned again ... but how do I compensate for (his) education?&rdquo;
Gaza faces a humanitarian crisis, with the head of the U.N.'s World Food Program determining a &ldquo;full-blown famine&rdquo; is already underway in the north.
More than 35,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants in its figures.
About 80% of Gaza&rsquo;s population has been driven from homes. Much of Gaza is damaged or destroyed, including nearly 90% of school buildings, according to aid group estimates.
Children are among the most severely affected, with the U.N. estimating some 19,000 children have been orphaned and nearly a third under the age of two face acute malnutrition.
In emergencies, education takes a back seat to safety, health and sanitation, say education experts, but the consequences are lasting.
Before the war, Gaza was home to more than 625,000 students and some 20,000 teachers in its highly literate population, according to the U.N.
In other conflicts, aid groups can create safe spaces for children in neighbouring countries &mdash; for example, Poland for shelter and schooling during the war in Ukraine.
That's not possible in Gaza, a densely populated enclave locked between the sea, Israel and Egypt.
Since October 7, Palestinians from Gaza haven't been allowed to cross into Israel. Egypt has let a small number of Palestinians leave.
&ldquo;They&rsquo;re unable to flee, and they remain in an area that continues to be battered," said Tess Ingram, of UNICEF.
"It's very hard to provide them with certain services such as mental health and psychosocial support or, you know, consistent education and learning.&rdquo;
Aid groups hope classes will resume by September. But even if a cease-fire is brokered, much of Gaza must be cleared of mines, and rebuilding schools could take years.
In the interim, aid groups are providing recreational activities &mdash; games, drawing, drama, art &mdash; not for a curriculum-based education but to keep children engaged and in a routine, in an effort for normalcy.
Even then, advocates say, attention often turns to the war &mdash; Atef's grandmother sees him draw pictures only of tents, planes and missiles.
Finding free space is among the biggest challenges. Some volunteers use the outdoors, make do inside tents where people live, or find a room in homes still standing.
It took volunteer teachers more than two months to clear one room in a school in Deir al-Balah to give ad hoc classes to children.
Getting simple supplies such as soccer balls and stationery into Gaza can also take months, groups report.
This month, UNICEF had planned to erect at least 50 tents for some 6,000 children from preschool to grade 12 for play-based numbers and literacy learning in Rafah.
But UNICEF says those plans could be disrupted by Israel's operation there.
Lack of schooling can take a psychological toll &mdash; it disrupts daily life and, compounded with conflict, makes children more prone to anxiety and nervousness, said Jesus Miguel Perez Cazorla, a mental health expert with the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Children in conflicts are also at increased risk of forced labour, sexual violence, trafficking and recruitment by gangs and armed groups, experts warn.
Palestinians say they've seen more children take to Gaza's streets since the war, trying to earn money for their families.
Some parents try to find small ways to teach their children, scrounging for notebooks and pens and insisting they learn something as small as a new word each day.
But many find the kids are too distracted, with the world around them at war.
Sabreen al-Khatib, a mother whose family was displaced to Deir al-Balah from Gaza City, said it's particularly hard for the many who've seen relatives die.
"When you speak in front of children," al-Khatib said, What do you think they are thinking? Will (they) think about education? AFP footage showed the Open Arms, which set sail from Cyprus on Tuesday, towing a barge that the Spanish charity of the same name says is loaded with 200 tonnes of food for Gazans threatened with famine after more than five months of war.
World Central Kitchen, the US charity working with Open Arms, said it was readying another boat with supplies of beans, canned meat, flour, rice and dates in the Cypriot port of Larnaca but stressed the need for more road access to bring aid into Gaza.
"Our ambition is having a highway of aid going into Gaza," the group's Juan Camilo Jimenez said in a video posted on social media platform X.
The Israeli military said it had deployed troops to "secure the area" around the jetty while the cargo of aid was unloaded. The "vessel underwent a comprehensive security inspection," it said.
A spokesman for the Hamas-ruled territory's health ministry said early on Saturday that 123 people had been killed across Gaza in the past 24 hours, including 36 people in a strike on a house sheltering displaced people in central Nuseirat.
Witnesses reported air strikes and fighting in the southern Gaza Strip's main city Khan Yunis as well as areas of the north where humanitarian conditions have been particularly dire.
As Muslim worshippers marked the first Friday of the fasting month of Ramadan, thousands attended prayers in the revered Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, amid a heavy security presence and restrictions on entry.

The top UN court on January 26 stopped short of ordering a ceasefire in Gaza but demanded that Israel try to contain death and damage in its military offensive. South Africa, which filed the ICJ application on December 29 last year, arguing that Israel was in breach of its obligations under the 1948 Genocide Convention, had asked for the court to order Israel to halt its operation.
The top UN Court court decided not to throw out genocide charges against Israel for its military offensive in Gaza, as part of a preliminary decision in the case.
Reacting to the verdict, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Friday that the International Court of Justice issued a ruling that is "a victory for international law, for human rights, and above all, for justice".
"The court has concluded that pursuant to Article 9 of the (1948 Genocide) Convention, it has jurisdiction to adjudicate our application. The effect of the order that the ICJ has granted today is that there is a plausible case of genocide. This follows the unprecedented action taken by South Africa to take another country to the International Court of Justice," he said.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called the charges against Israel "outrageous".
Netanyahu said, "The charge of genocide levelled against Israel is not only false, it's outrageous, and decent people everywhere should reject it."&nbsp;
He further said, "On the eve of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, I again pledge as Prime Minister of Israel - Never Again. Israel will continue to defend itself against Hamas, a genocidal terror organization."

The United Nations' top court is set to rule on Friday on a call for Israel to halt its military offensive in Gaza, when it issues a preliminary decision in a case accusing Israel of committing genocide in the tiny coastal enclave.
Joan E. Donoghue, president of the International Court of Justice, opened the session to read out the highly anticipated decision made by a panel of 17 judges in a case that goes to the core of one of the world's most intractable conflicts.
In the ruling, which is expected to take about an hour to read out, Donoghue said the court would not throw out the case.
"The court is acutely aware of the extent of the human tragedy that is unfolding in the region and is deeply concerned about the continuing loss of life and human suffering,&rdquo; she said.
Friday's decision, however, is only an interim one; it could take years for the full case brought by South Africa to be considered. Israel rejects the genocide accusation and had asked the court to throw the charges out.
While the case winds its way through the court, South Africa has asked the judges &ldquo;as a matter of extreme urgency&rdquo; to impose so-called provisional measures to protect Palestinians in Gaza.
Top of the South African list is a request for the court to order Israel to &ldquo;immediately suspend its military operations in and against Gaza.&rdquo; It is also asking for Israel to take &ldquo;reasonable measures&rdquo; to prevent genocide and allow access for desperately needed aid.
In a statement Thursday, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh said he hoped the decision would &ldquo;include immediate action to stop the aggression and genocide against our people in the Gaza Strip ... and a rapid flow of relief aid to save the hungry, wounded and sick from the threat of slow death that threatens them." Israeli government spokesperson Eylon Levy said Thursday that Israel expects the court to toss out the &ldquo;spurious and specious charges.&rdquo; Israel often boycotts international tribunals and U.N. investigations, saying they are unfair and biased. But this time, it took the rare step of sending a high-level legal team &mdash; a sign of how seriously it regards the case and likely the fear that any court order to halt operations would be a major blow to the country's international standing.
An Israeli official said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu huddled with top legal, diplomatic and security officials on Thursday in anticipation of the ruling. He said Israel is confident in its case but discussed &ldquo;all scenarios.&rdquo; The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was discussing confidential meetings.
Israel launched its massive air and ground assault on Gaza after Hamas militants stormed through Israeli communities on Oct. 7 killing some 1,200 people, mainly civilians, and abducting another 250.
The offensive has decimated vast swaths of the territory and driven nearly 85% of its 2.3 million people from their homes.
More than 26,000 Palestinians have been killed, the Health Ministry in the Hamas-run enclave said on Friday. The ministry does not differentiate between combatants and civilians in its death toll, but has said about two-thirds of those killed were women and children.
The Israeli military claims at least 9,000 of those killed in the nearly four-month conflict are Hamas militants.
U.N. officials have expressed fears that even more people could die from disease, with at least one-quarter of the population facing starvation.
Marieke de Hoon, an associate professor of international law at the University of Amsterdam, said she thinks the court is unlikely to throw the case out Friday since the legal bar South Africa has to clear at this early stage is lower than the one that would be applied for ruling on the merits of the accusation.
&ldquo;The standard ... is not, has there been genocide? But a lower standard," she said. &ldquo;Is it plausible that there could have been a risk of genocide that would invoke Israel's responsibility to prevent genocide?&rdquo; But De Hoon also does not expect the world court to order an end to Israel's military operation.
&ldquo;I think that they will shy away from actually calling for a full cease-fire, because I think they will find that beyond their abilities right now,&rdquo; she said in a telephone interview.
Provisional measures by the world court are legally binding, but it is not clear if Israel would comply with any order.
Top Hamas official Osama Hamdan, meanwhile, said his group would abide by a cease-fire if ordered and would be ready to release the hostages it is holding if Israel releases Palestinian prisoners.
How the US, Israel's top ally, responds to any order will be key, since it wields veto power at the U.N. Security Council and thus could block measures there aimed at forcing Israel's compliance.
The US has said Israel has the right to defend itself, but also spoken about the need for the country to protect civilians in Gaza and allow more aid in.
The genocide case strikes at the national identity of Israel, which was founded as a Jewish state after the Nazi slaughter of 6 million Jews during World War II.

Israel has reportedly proposed a two-month pause in the fighting against Hamas in Gaza.
