India on Sunday summoned the Swiss ambassador and lodged a protest over the issue of putting up "unfounded and malicious anti-India" posters in front of the UN building in Geneva, according to news reports.

Several posters alleging harassment of minorities and women were put up at a square outside the UN building in Geneva coinciding with a session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

India on Sunday summoned the Swiss ambassador and lodged a protest over the issue of putting up "unfounded and malicious anti-India" posters in front of the UN building in Geneva, official sources said.
Swiss ambassador to New Delhi Ralf Heckner conveyed to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) that he would convey India's concerns to Berne with all the seriousness it deserves, they said.

"The embassy has conveyed India's concerns to Berne with all the seriousness it deserves," Heckner said in a brief statement.
A purported video of the posters in front of the UN building was also circulating on social media.
"The secretary (West), MEA, today called in the Swiss ambassador and raised the issue of unfounded and malicious anti-India posters in front of the UN building in Geneva," said a source.
"The Swiss Ambassador said that he would convey India's concerns to Berne with all the seriousness it deserves," it said.
The envoy said the posters in Geneva are part of the space provided to all, but in no way endorse the claims, nor reflect the position of the Swiss government, the sources added. &nbsp;It is learnt that similar posters were put up in the past as well during sessions of the UNHRC.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava also asserted that India was a democratic polity based on the rule of law and an independent judiciary. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava also asserted that India was a democratic polity based on the rule of law and an independent judiciary.
"We have seen some comments by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on an issue relating to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA). India is a democratic polity based on the rule of law and an independent judiciary.
"The framing of laws is obviously a sovereign prerogative. Violations of law, however, cannot be condoned under the pretext of human rights. A more informed view of the matter was expected of a UN body," Srivastava said.
Earlier, Bachelet expressed concern over the restrictions on foreign funding for the NGOs and the arrest of activists in the country.
She appealed to the Indian Government to "safeguard the rights of human rights defenders and NGOs, and their ability to carry out their crucial work" on behalf of the many groups they represent.
"India has long had a strong civil society, which has been at the forefront of groundbreaking human rights advocacy within the country and globally," she said in a statement.
"But I am concerned that vaguely defined laws are increasingly being used to stifle these voices," she said.
Bachelet specifically cited as "worrying" the use of the FCRA, which prohibits the receipt of foreign funds "for any activities prejudicial to the public interest." As per the amended FCRA law, furnishing of Aadhaar numbers by office-bearers of NGOs has become mandatory for registration. The Act also provides for reduction in administrative expenses of any NGO receiving foreign funding, from 50 per cent to 20 per cent of annual funds to ensure spending on their main objectives.
The government has maintained that the legislation was not against any NGO and was an effort to maintain transparency

With a 58% majority vote, the city of Geneva in Switzerland has agreed to a minimum wage of 23 Swiss francs that is Rs. 1,800 per hour. The wage is believed to be the highest minimum wage to be adopted by anyplace in the world.&nbsp;
While Switzerland has no minimum wage set, the decision to impose one in Geneva was backed by labour unions, who reportedly say that&nbsp;Covid-19 has shown that the 4,000 Swiss francs per month wage is the 'minimum to not fall below the poverty line' and sustain life in Geneva.
Speaking to CNN, Geneva State Counselor Mauro Poggia&nbsp;said, 'This new minimum wage will apply to about 6% of the canton's workers as of November 1.'&nbsp;
