15 dead in collision between bus and truck in MP

On being alerted about the incident, police personnel from Sohagi rushed to the site

Fourteen persons were killed and more than 35 others injured after a bus collided with a stationary truck in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, an official said on Saturday.
The accident occurred around 11.30 pm on Friday, he said.
"The bus was on its way to Gorakhpur from Hyderabad when it collided with a stationary trailer-truck on national highway (NH) 30 near Sohagi ghati area," Rewa collector Manoj Pushp said.
"Fourteen persons were killed in the accident, which left more than 35 others injured," he said.
On being alerted about the incident, police personnel from Sohagi rushed to the site and launched a rescue operation.
Majority of the bus passengers were labourers and they were on their way home for the Diwali festival, eyewitnesses said.
The injured were rushed to a hospital in Teonthar town, he said.

A draft delimitation order issued by the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation in Uttar Pradesh has changed the "Muslim-sounding names" of around a dozen wards, prompting a sharp reaction from leaders of the Samajwadi Party and the Congress.
The changing of names was part of the delimitation exercise, under which the number of wards went up to 80 in Gorakhpur, with several of these named after iconic personalities and freedom fighters.
A senior official said on Saturday that people can file their objections within a week and after their disposal, the delimitation will be approved.
Samajwadi Party leader and Ismailpur corporator Shahab Ansari said that changing of names is an attempt at polarisation.

Ansari said the party will hold a meeting in this regard on Sunday and a delegation will meet the district magistrate to raise the objection on Monday.
Congress leader Talat Aziz termed the name-changing exercise as a waste of money. "I fail to understand what the government will achieve through this exercise," the leader asked.
Mayor Sitaram Jaiswal said new names evoke the feeling of pride.
He said wards were named after personalities like Ashfaqullah Khan, Shiv Singh Chetri, Baba Gambhir Nath, Baba Raghavdas, Dr Rajendra Prasad and Madan Mohan Malviya.
Municipal Commissioner Avinash Singh said objections can be sent within a week to the additional chief secretary, Urban Development Department, Lucknow. After the disposal of the objections, the delimitation will be approved, he said.
Gorakhpur, the home town of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will now have 80 wards.
Miya Bazar, Muftipur, Alinagar, Turkmanpur, Ismailpur, Rassolpur, Humayunpur North, Ghosipurva, Daudpur, Jafra Bazar, Qazipur Khurd and Chaksa Hussain are among the "Muslim-sounding names" that have been changed.
According to the order issued by the civic body, Ilahi Bagh will now be known as Bandhu Singh Nagar, Ismailpur as Sahabganj and Jafra Bazar as Atma Ram Nagar.

The Gorakhpur Sadar assembly seat has been with the BJP continuously since 1989, except once when it was won by an affiliate. In 2017, the BJP's Radha Mohan Das Agarwal won the seat by a margin of over 60,000 votes.
Yogi Adityanath is a five-time MP from Gorakhpur while Chandrashekhar Azad has never fought elections before.
So why is Ravan contesting from Gorakhpur?
It's more personal than political. The Dalit youth icon had declared back in November 2021 that he would contest against Yogi, who jailed him under NSA. Ravan has spent almost half of last 5 years in jail, thanks to Yogi.
On political level, Ravan has declared that his Azad Samaj Party will not ally Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party. Reports said that SP chief was ready to give Azad's party 3 seats, but he insisted on 25.
Ravan is a political rookie, his outfit, Bhim Army, is popular among Dalit youths, but has no significant organisational or political base in the state. Did he make a mistake by not accepting Akhilesh's offer? Is contesting against Yogi a strategy to remain in news in the election season?
Ravan aspires to take Mayawati's space in UP's Dalit politics.

The Haata Vs Shakti Sadan rivalry is a subject of folklore in Eastern UP. It was primarily a war between Brahmins and Thakurs. But with Shahi's murdered, the Tiwaris established themselves as the undisputed Bahubalis of Purvanchal.&nbsp;
The Shakti Sadan Vs Haata rivalry later turned into Mutt Vs Haata as the Gorakhpur peeth, now controlled by Yogi Adityanath, is a Thakur institution.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Such was his influence over politics that Hari Shankar Tiwari has been a minister in every UP government since the 90s. Be it Kalyan Singh, Rajnath Singh, Mulayam&nbsp; Singh or Mayawati, no CM could ignore the house of Tiwaris.&nbsp;
Throughout his political journey, Hari Shankar Tiwari lost only two elections, once in 2007, and then in 2012, after which he did not contest any election. However, his political influence is still intact as he established his family in the politics of the state. He regained control over his traditional seat of Chillupaar in 2017, though this time, it was his son Vinay Shankar Tiwari, who managed to become an MLA on BSP ticket from Yogi's stronghold despite the Modi wave.
Since the 80s, Tiwari senior has faced more than 2 dozen cases related to robbery, murder, kidnapping and obstructing government work. But not a single has been proven till date. An indication of his influence and muscle.&nbsp;&nbsp;
So how would the Tiwaris' latest move impact BSP and BJP in the upcoming polls?
For BSP,&nbsp;it's a big jolt as the party has been attempting to revive the Dalit-Brahmin alliance that gave it majority in 2007. And Tiwaris played a big part in getting upper castes closer to Behenji.
For BJP, the Tiwaris could disturb the caste applecart.
Yogi has, since the start, faced allegations of ignoring the Brahmins.&nbsp;
The narrative was established from the very start as Yogi ordered raid on Tiwari's Haata within weeks of coming to power.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The cops entered Tiwari's Haata on the pretext of looking for a criminal who they alleged was hiding in the Haata. Later it turned out the criminal was already in Ballia jail for three months before the raid. This is the first time that police entered Haata in decades.&nbsp;
Such is the bitterness between the Mutt and the Haata that Tiwaris and Yogi have not met once in last five years.&nbsp;

The fertiliser plant worth Rs 8,603 crore will produce 12.7 lakh metric tons of neem-coated urea per year, state officials said, adding the project will not only bring prosperity to farmers’ lives but also create 20,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities for youths.
The Gorakhpur AIIMS, built for Rs 1,011 crore, will benefit not only the people of eastern UP but also a huge population of Bihar, Jharkhand and Nepal with its world-class health facilities.
Similarly, the regional medical research centre worth Rs 36 crore will facilitate the test and research of vector-borne diseases.

One of the men staying with Gupta at the hotel told mediapersons that cops knocked at their room at midnight and threatened them. He also alleged that the policemen&nbsp;appeared drunk and assaulted the occupants. "A while later, I saw Manish was being dragged out of the room by the cops and there was blood all over his face," he added.
The Gorakhpur Police claim they had received information about 'suspicious' men staying at the hotel.
The victim's wife told the media she was not convinced with the police's explanation.
"Just 10 minutes before his death, he was speaking to me and then he cut the call saying the cops are here. I believe he later called another relative saying the police were harassing and threatening him and asking him to accompany them to the police station. I want answers to how he died," Meenakshi Gupta, the wife of the dead property dealer, said.

Sub-inspector Dharmendra Yadav and three other constables posted at the same police station in Basti have been identified as the accused. The jeweller and his assistant had taken a bus from Gorakhpur to Lucknow on Wednesday. The cops stopped the bus and asked the two to come down. They were then taken to an isolated spot and robbed. The Gorakhpur police said they have recovered ₹ 19 lakh in cash; gold and silver worth ₹ 16 lakh and a car used in the crime. A coronavirus positive woman delivered four babies at BRD Medical College in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur district, officials said on Thursday. While three babies are healthy, the fourth one is on a ventilator.&nbsp;The 26-year-old woman from&nbsp;Deoria district reached the medical college's trauma centre on Tuesday night and tested positive there.&nbsp;As per the doctors, the delivery was premature.

Gorakhpur, PTI: A coronavirus positive woman delivered four babies at BRD Medical College in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur district, officials said on Thursday.
"While three babies are healthy, the fourth one is on a ventilator. The mother is also healthy," BRD Medical College Principal Ganesh Kumar said.
The 26-year-old woman, a resident of Deoria district's Gauri Bazar, reached the medical college's trauma centre on Tuesday night and tested positive there.
With the efficient team of doctors and paramedical staff, the woman delivered the quadruplets on Wednesday, he said.
As per the doctors, the delivery was premature and the weight of the four babies is between 980 grams to 1.5 kg. The mother is feeding three babies while one is on ventilator support.
The principal said such cases are very rare and delivery is also quite challenging.
However, the mother and three of the newborns are healthy with the samples of all four babies sent to the microbiology department for coronavirus test.
