AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday termed as &ldquo;unprecedented success&rdquo; his party's foray into Gujarat, a BJP bastion for years, and said winning five seats there was as difficult as &ldquo;milking an ox.&rdquo; Addressing the party's national executive and national council meeting, the Delhi Chief Minister also asserted that the AAP is sure it will dislodge the BJP from power in Gujarat and form its government there in 2027, as it did in Punjab earlier this year.
The Aam Aadmi Party had won five seats in its latest campaign in Gujarat with about 13 per cent vote share.
"Recently someone told me that I have retired milking ox from Gujarat. So difficult it was. Everyone can milk the cow, but we have indeed milked the ox by winning five seats and securing 14 per cent vote share in the assembly polls,&rdquo; Kejriwal said, as he congratulated party workers on the &ldquo;achievement.&rdquo; Kejriwal thanked the people of Gujarat too for reposing faith in his party's &ldquo;vision and ideology.&rdquo;
&ldquo;The Aam Aadmi Party formed its government in Punjab in its second foray in the state. Don't worry, we will certainly form our government in Gujarat also in 2027,&rdquo; he added.
In 2017, the AAP had contested 29 of 182 assembly seats in Gujarat elections and 112 of 117 assembly seats in Punjab elections.

While the AAP had suffered a miserable defeat in Gujarat then with all its 29 candidates losing their deposits, the party had won 20 seats in Punjab to become the main opposition party in the state.
On the 2022 Gujarat assembly polls, Kejriwal said the biggest takeaway from the party's foray into the BJP stronghold was that it became eligible for getting the national party status by the Election Commission.
&ldquo;Perhaps AAP is the only party which came to power in Delhi within a year of its formation, formed the government in another state, Punjab, within 10 years, and now became a national party,&rdquo; he said.

After going through the report of the state chief electoral officer and seeking legal opinion, the poll panel concluded that referring to taking action against "miscreants" was not violative of the provisions of the poll code.
A former bureaucrat had moved the poll panel over the statement Shah made at an election rally in Mahudha town of Kheda district last month.
In the rally, Shah had said, "During the Congress rule in Gujarat (before 1995), communal riots were rampant. Congress used to incite people of different communities and castes to fight against each other. Through such riots, Congress strengthened its vote bank and did injustice to a large section of the society." He had claimed that Gujarat witnessed riots in 2002 because the perpetrators became habituated to indulging in violence due to the prolonged support they received from the Congress.

"But after they were taught a lesson in 2002, these elements left that path (of violence). They refrained from indulging in violence from 2002 till 2022. BJP has established permanent peace in Gujarat by taking strict action against those who used to indulge in communal violence," the Union minister had said.
Parts of Gujarat had witnessed large-scale violence in 2002 following the train burning incident at Godhra railway station in February of that year.

He had replaced Vijay Rupani as the chief minister of Gujarat in September 2021 ahead of the Assembly elections.

Patel, 60, resigned as the chief minister along with his entire cabinet on Friday to pave the way for the formation of a new government in the state after the BJP registered a record victory in the just-concluded Assembly elections by clinching 156 seats in the 182-member House.

Bhupendra Patel will continue as the chief minister of Gujarat for a second straight term with the newly-elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs electing him as the leader of the legislative party during a meeting Gandhinagar on Saturday.
Patel's name was declared as the leader of the legislative party unanimously at the meeting held at the party's state headquarters 'Kamalam'.

Senior BJP leaders Rajnath Singh, B S Yediyurappa and Arjun Munda were present for the meeting as the party's central observers.
Patel won a second straight term from the Ghatlodia Assembly seat in Ahmedabad district by 1.92 lakh votes in this year's election. In September last year, he had replaced Vijay Rupani as the chief minister.

The BJP registered a historic victory in Gujarat by clinching 156 seats in the 182-member House on Thursday, much higher than its tally of 99 seats in 2017.
The party had already announced that the swearing-in ceremony of the new government will take place on December 12, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah will be present along with chief ministers of BJP-ruled states.
Gujarat BJP chief C R Paatil had said that Bhupendra Patel would continue as the chief minister and the swearing-in ceremony of the new government will take place on Monday at the Helipad Ground in Gandhinagar.&nbsp;

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the Limkheda Assembly seat in Gujarat's Dahod district where 2002 riots victim Bilkis Bano once lived.
The candidate of the opposition Congress which had promised to revoke the remission granted by the BJP-led state government to 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano gangrape case ended up third, polling 8,000 votes.
Bano was a resident of Randhikpur village in the tribal-dominated Dahod district.
Sitting BJP MLA Shailesh Bhabhor defeated his closest rival, Aam Aadmi Party's Naresh Baria by nearly 4,000 votes.
The premature release of 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano case became an issue in the election campaign, with the Congress mentioning it in its manifesto and vowing to ensure justice for her.
Following the remission, the 11 men walked out of the Godhra sub-jail on August 15.
Some activists and observers had predicted that as the AAP leaders remained silent on the issue while Congress leaders like Jingnesh Mevani were vocal about it, Muslims would vote for the Congress.
But ahead of the polls, Shailesh Bhabhor had confidently claimed that Bilkis Bano was never a poll issue and even Muslims supported the BJP.

Sibling rivalry was at play in Jamnagar North as Ravindra Jadeja batted for his wife Rivaba, while his sister Naynaba Jadeja campaign for the Congress, bringing into limelight this urban constituency where voters, like much of Gujarat, have again backed the ruling party.
The constituency had voted for the first time in 2012 after being carved out following delimitation. The Congress won it while the BJP grabbed it in 2017 after then incumbent MLA Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, locally better known as Hakubha, crossed over to the BJP.
He was dropped this time in favour of Rivaba Jadeja.
The BJP though managed to placate Hakubha by making him the party's in-charge for polling in three assembly seats in Jamnagar, including Jamnagar North.
An overwhelmingly urban constituency, Jamnagar North was always seen as more favourable to the BJP than the Congress. The performance of the Aam Aadmi Party, which fielded a not-so-known face, has come as a surprise.

Counting of votes for a new assembly in Gujarat got underway on Thursday morning, with early trends pointing to a sweeping victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that has not lost an election in the state since 1995. As per the latest trends of the Gujarat Assembly elections, the BJP is seen inching towards an all-time high tally of 149 seats in 182-member House; Congress ahead in 19, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 9 seats.
Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Raut said had the AAP and other parties come together, formed an alliance or reached an understanding, then it would have been a tough battle for the BJP.
"Gujarat results are on expected lines," he said.
"People have suspicion that it must have happened that you (the AAP) take Delhi and leave Gujarat to us (the BJP)," Raut added, alluding to a tacit understanding between the two parties.
He was referring to AAP's victory in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls on its home turf in the national capital.

The Rajya Sabha member also said the AAP's victory in the MCD is "commendable".
"It is not easy to snatch Delhi from a party like the BJP," he added.
Raut, a key leader of the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena, also defended Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who was virtually absent from his party's campaign in the state.
He said Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra had nothing to do with politics.
Raut said in Himachal Pradesh, the Congress was giving a tough fight as per expectations, which he termed as positive.
The BJP bagged Gujarat, lost Delhi and has to struggle in Himachal Pradesh, where the Congress would win, he claimed.
"This is optimistic from the point of view of future polls, but only the opposition has to come together to avoid division of votes. If, by keeping aside differences, egos, the battle is contested together then the country will definitely see 2024 a change in 2024,"

The Aam Aadmi Party was projected to bag anything between three and 13 seats. The majority mark in Gujarat is 92.

With the entry of aggressive new player Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the scene, the challenge to battle anti-incumbency gets even tougher for the BJP.
With its traditional rival, the Congress, having an unusually subdued campaign this time, let&rsquo;s take a look at some of the factors that might work in favour of the BJP and some which might hamper its re-election bid.
The mass appeal of Prime Minister Modi coupled with Amit Shah still remains BJP&rsquo;s trump card. Both leaders have managed to pull victories in the previous state elections despite having moved to national politics.
PM Modi&rsquo;s poll pitch &lsquo;Aa Gujarat Main Banavyu Che&rsquo; which translates to &lsquo;I have made this Gujarat&rsquo; seems to have been a hit among its target audience of common man.
The Gujarat unit of the BJP has a formidable organisational setup till the booth level based on which the party has been stay for six consecutive terms in power.
With Patidar leader Hardik Patel into its fold this time, the ruling party might benefit after facing the community&rsquo;s ire in the 2017 polls over the quota agitation.

The lack of strong leadership since Narendra Modi vacated CM&rsquo;s chair in 2014 is a headache for the saffron party. With Gujarat witnessing three chief ministers since 2014, the BJP has been able to keep fault lines within the party from erupting till now but they are likely to come to the fore if they lose the polls.
With AAP eyeing to make inroads in the otherwise bipolar contest, the BJP is wary of AAP&rsquo;s aggressive campaign which is focused on the &lsquo;Delhi model&rsquo; of education, healthcare and anti-corruption.
However, BJP may breathe a sigh of relief in the fact that despite AAP&rsquo;s footsteps in Uttarakhand, Goa and even a surprise victory in Punjab earlier this year, it was mostly the Congress&rsquo; vote share which shifted towards AAP.
The recent bridge collapse in Morbi in which over 135 people were killed may also have an impact on BJP's electoral fortunes.
Another cause of concern for the saffron party&rsquo;s high command will be its declining seat tally in each election since 2002. The ruling party won 127 seats in 2002, 117 in 2007, 116 in 2012 and 99 in 2017.

AAP is up against BJP's trump card, the 'Modi factor' that gives the saffron party an edge over its rivals. Adding to that is BJP's well-entrenched Hindutva politics that AAP has to break through.

As counting of votes for Gujarat Assembly polls began on Thursday, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Hardik Patel predicted that his party will win over 130 seats, the most by party till date in the Gujarat Assembly elections, and expressed optimism that the BJP will undoubtedly form the government for the seventh time in the state.
The counting of votes for the Gujarat Assembly elections began at 8 am on Thursday to decide the fate of the candidates.
Speaking to news agency ANI ahead of the counting, the Patidar leader said, "The party which hurt the religious beliefs of Gujarat cannot become successful here. We will get 135 to 145 seats. we are definitely going to form the government. Do you have any doubts?"

Campaigning for the second and final phase of Gujarat Assembly Elections ended this evening. Voting will be held on Monday. Senior leaders from all political parties made last-ditch efforts to woo the voters. &nbsp;
833 candidates are in the fray, including 69 women and 285 independents, for 93 seats across 14 districts which are spread over North and Central Gujarat. Prominent districts like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Mehsana Gandhinagar and Patan will be going to polls. The political fate of many prominent leader including, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Seven state Cabinet Ministers and other BJP leaders like Hardik Patel and Alpesh Thakur will be decided in this phase. Congress leaders Sukhram Rathava, Jignesh Mavani, Aam Aadmi Party leaders Bharat Singh Vakhala and Bhema Bhai Choudhury are also trying their luck in this phase.
More than 2.51 crore voters are eligible to decide the political fate of the leaders on Monday which include around 6 lakh enthusiastic first time voters. Nearly 5,400 voters are aged 99 years or above and 660 NRI voters are also expected to cast their votes. As many as 26,409 polling booths have been set up for this phase of polling out of which 93 are model polling stations and 14 are youth manned polling stations. Highest number of 29 candidates are contesting from Bapunagar constituency while minimum three candidates are in fray at Idar assembly seat. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is the most prominent candidate of this phase who is contesting from Ghatlodia seat which also has the highest number of voters in this phase
