An aide of slain pro-Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar may now be facing a threat to life in Canada.
Another Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has claimed that Nijjar-aide Inderjeet Singh Gosal has been issued a &ldquo;duty to warn&rdquo; notice by the Canadian police.
Pannun says that Gosal remains committed to the Khalistani cause despite the threat.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police or Ontario police have not publicly confirmed this.
Pannun's claim comes amid strained ties between India and Canada following Nijjar's killing in British Columbia in June 2023. Four men have been charged with murder so far.

Canadian authorities on Saturday arrested a fourth Indian national for his role in the killing of separatist Khalistan Hardeep Singh Nijjar, according to an official release.
Twenty-two-year-old Amardeep Singh, a resident of Brampton, Surrey, and Abbotsford areas of Canada, has been charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said that Singh was arrested on May 11 for his role in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. He was already in the custody of the Peel Regional Police for unrelated firearms charges out, the official release said.
"This arrest shows the nature of our ongoing investigation to hold responsible those that played a role in the homicide of Hardeep Singh Nijjar,&rdquo; said Superintendent Mandeep Mooker, the Officer in Charge of IHIT.
Nijjar, 45, was killed outside Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia on June 18, 2023.
IHIT investigators on May 3 arrested three Indian nationals -- Karan Brar (22), Kamalpreet Singh (22) and 28-year-old Karanpreet Singh -- for the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
All three individuals are Indian nationals living in Edmonton and have been charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.&nbsp;

Canadian police on Saturday released photographs of all three persons arrested in the killing of India-designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar last year amid an ongoing probe into alleged connections of the Indian government. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in a statement named the three men, all Indian nationals, as Karanpreet Singh, 28, Kamalpreet Singh, 22 and Karan Brar, 22 and released their photographs. The trio were arrested in Edmonton city in Alberta.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) of Surrey, RCMP on Friday (local time) said that on the morning of May 3, IHIT investigators, with the assistance of members from the British Columbia and Alberta RCMP and the Edmonton Police Service, arrested the three men for the June 2023 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey a suburb in Vancouver.
The trio have now been charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in relation to the homicide.
Along with photographs of the three accused, the Canadian police has also released the photographs of the car believed to have been used by the suspects in the time leading up to the homicide, in and around the Surrey area. Addressing reporters at a news conference on Friday, RCMP Assistant Commissioner David Teboul, who leads the Federal Policing Program in the Pacific Region, emphasised the active nature of the investigation into Nijjar's murder.
"Three suspects have been arrested and charged for their alleged involvement in the killing of Nijjar.... We are not able to make any comments on the nature of evidence... Nor can we speak behind the motive of murder of Nijjar... However, I will say this matter is very much under active investigation," he said.
"There are separate and distinct investigations ongoing into these matters, certainly not limited to the involvement of the people arrested today, and these efforts include investigating connections to the government of India," Teboul also said.
Police personnel have not given any evidence of any link to India as was being speculated in Canadian media. India has repeatedly denied the allegations, terming them "absurd and motivated."
Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was designated a terrorist by India's National Investigation Agency in 2020, was shot and killed as he came out of a Gurdwara in Surrey in June last year.

An official of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said that in addition to the murder case, separate investigations are looking into possible connections to the Government of India.

Canadian police have arrested three Indian nationals believed by investigators to be members of an alleged hit squad tasked by the government of India with the killing of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey last year, police said.
The ties between India and Canada came under severe strain following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations in September last year of the "potential" involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Nijjar.
India has dismissed Trudeau's charges as "absurd" and "motivated." Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Assistant Commissioner David Teboul said that three people have been arrested and charged in the killing of Sikh activist Nijjar.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, he said that in addition to the murder case, separate investigations are looking into possible connections to the Government of India, The Toronto Star newspaper reported.
Teboul stressed that the murder remains "very much under active investigation," CTV News reported.
"There are separate and distinct investigations ongoing into these matters, certainly not limited to the involvement of the people arrested today, and these efforts include investigating connections to the government of India," he was quoted as saying by the news channel.
During the press conference, Superintendent Mandeep Mooker, who leads the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, said that the suspects "were not known to the police" before the investigation into Nijjar's death.
Mooker identified the suspects as Karan Brar, Karanpreet Singh and Kamalpreet Singh, all men in their 20s, who were arrested on Friday in Edmonton.
Mooker said all three are Indian nationals and have been living as non-permanent residents in Canada for the last three to five years.
He said coordination with India has been "challenging and rather difficult for the last several years".
Mooker said that his investigation has relied on the Sikh community's support.
"We would not be at this point without the bravery and courage of the Sikh community coming forward with information for this investigation," he said, adding that he believes they will continue to come forward for any future investigations, according to the report.
Court documents show Karanpreet Singh, Kamalpreet Singh and Karan Brar are each facing one count of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to murder in Nijjar's death.
Nijjar, 45, was gunned down outside his gurdwara in Surrey, B.C., on June 18, 2023. He was a Canadian citizen.
Citing sources, a report in Global News said that the suspects had entered Canada on &ldquo;student visas but may have been working at the direction of Indian intelligence when they shot Nijjar.&rdquo; According to court records, Brar has been charged with a murder that occurred in Surrey on June 18, 2023. He also faces a charge of conspiracy to murder on May 1, 2023, in Edmonton and Surrey, the report said.
Talking to reporters, Canada's Public Safety Minister Dominic Leblanc declined to confirm the Indian government connection, saying such questions are best addressed by the RCMP.
"I have full confidence in the security apparatus of the government of Canada and the work of the RCMP, and the work that the (Canadian) Security Intelligence Service does," Leblanc said.
"I think the police operation that you see ongoing today confirms that the RCMP take these matters extremely seriously. But questions with respect to particular links or non-links are properly put to the RCMP," he added.
The indictments Friday allege the conspiracy unfolded in both Surrey and Edmonton between May 1, 2023, and the date of Nijjar's killing.
Quoting sources close to the investigation, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) reported that the police are actively investigating possible links to three additional murders in Canada, including the shooting death of an 11-year-old boy in Edmonton.
Members of the hit squad are alleged to have played different roles as shooters, drivers and spotters on the day Nijjar was killed at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey in British Columbia, according to the sources.
Sources said investigators identified the alleged hit squad members in Canada some months ago and have been keeping them under tight surveillance.
India had on Thursday rejected fresh comments by Prime Minister Trudeau on the killing of Nijjar and said the remarks once again illustrated the political space given in Canada to separatism, extremism, and violence.
Trudeau addressed a Khalsa Day event in Toronto on Sunday that was attended by some pro-Khalistan supporters.
On the sidelines of the event, he told the media that the killing of Nijjar in British Columbia in June last year created a "problem" and that he cannot ignore it, in an apparent reference to his earlier allegations of involvement of Indian agents in the assassination.
"PM Trudeau has made such remarks earlier as well. His remarks illustrate once again the political space that has been given in Canada to separatism, extremism, and violence," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in New Delhi at his weekly media briefing.
"This not only impacts India-Canada relations but also encourages a climate of violence and criminality in Canada to the detriment of its own citizens," he said when asked about Trudeau's remarks.
India on Monday also summoned the Canadian deputy high commissioner and lodged a strong protest with him over the raising of pro-Khalistan slogans at the event in the presence of Trudeau and several other leaders. Nijjar was a Khalistani separatist and he was wanted in India on various terror charges.
"It is a problem in our relations with India because we cannot ignore that," Trudeau said on the killing of Nijjar.
Days after Trudeau's allegations, India asked Ottawa to downsize its diplomatic presence in the country to ensure parity. Subsequently, Canada withdrew 41 diplomats and their family members from India.
India has been asserting that its "core issue" with Canada remained that of the space given to separatists, terrorists and anti-India elements in that country.
Following Trudeau's allegations last year, India temporarily suspended the issuance of visas to Canadian citizens. The visa services were resumed several weeks later.

Sanjay Kumar Verma told the Globe and Mail outlet on February 5 that India will not provide information to the investigators unless there is evidence linking to the alleged Indian government's agents.
&ldquo;We need relevant and specific evidence for us to help the Canadian authorities,&rdquo; he was quoted as saying last week. &ldquo;Unless we see something relevant and specific, it would be extremely difficult for us to do anything to help the Canadian authorities.&rdquo;

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that India is not ruling out an investigation into the murder of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar but has sought proof from Canada.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday said that India is not ruling out an investigation but asked Canada to provide evidence in support of its allegations about the involvement of agents of the Indian government in the killing of a Khalistani separatist in that country.
Jaishankar made the comments in response to questions during a conversation with veteran journalist Lionel Barber titled &lsquo;How a Billion People See the World' here.
"If you have a reason to make such an allegation please share the evidence because we are not ruling out an investigation&hellip;," Jaishankar, who is here on a five-day official visit to the UK, said while responding to a question.
He emphasised that Canada has not shared any evidence with India to support its allegation.
The ties between India and Canada came under severe strain following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations in September of a "potential" involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on June 18 in British Columbia. India had designated Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020.
India has rejected Trudeau's allegations as "absurd" and "motivated".
Jaishankar said that freedom of speech and freedom of expression comes with a certain responsibility and the misuse of those freedoms and the toleration of that misuse for political purposes would be very wrong, referring to the pro-Khalistani activities in Canada.
He recalled the attacks on the High Commission of India in Canada, or smoke bomb attacks on the High Commission and Consulate General, and said Indian diplomats were intimidated in public, with no action from the Canadian authorities against culprits.
Last week, Prime Minister Trudeau underlined that a "fight" with India was not something Canada wanted to be having right now but reiterated his allegations and said Ottawa wants to "work constructively" with New Delhi on this "very serious matter".
Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said India has conveyed to the US side its serious concerns over increasing activities of pro-Khalistani elements in Canada.
"Insofar as Canada is concerned, we have been having very consistent conversations with all our friends and partners. Our position on this matter has been enunciated and explained in full detail on multiple occasions," Kwatra said in New Delhi recently.
Days after Trudeau's allegations in September, India temporarily suspended the issuance of visas to Canadian citizens and asked Ottawa to downsize its diplomatic presence in the country to ensure parity.
India resumed some visa services in Canada last month, more than a month after they were suspended.
On China, Jaishankar said that the 2020 deadly clash has vitiated the relationship between the two countries.
He said China did not adhere to the agreement not to amass troops at the Line of Actual Control as he asserted that such acts of not following pacts have consequences in terms of credibility.

The Washington Post reported that a 90-second recording of the video reviewed by it starts with Nijjar&rsquo;s grey truck pulling out of the gurdwara's parking space and a white sedan appearing in an adjacent lot and then pulling up to the truck. The two vehicles are initially separated by a walkway and then the truck enters the sedan's lane.&nbsp;

Bhupinderjit Singh, a volunteer at the gurdwara outside which Nijjar was killed, told The Washington Post that he was playing football roughly 100 yards away when he heard the gunshots. Singh, the first witness to reach Nijjar&rsquo;s truck, opened the driver&rsquo;s side door and grabbed the gurdwara leader, who did not seem to be breathing.&nbsp;
Singh then drove off in pursuit of the attackers with another gurdwara member who was also on the spot.&nbsp;
A gurdwara member named Malkit Singh was also playing football in the area and saw the two hooded men who had fired at Nijjar running away from the spot. He chased them. Washington Post quoted Malkit as saying that the attackers were wearing &lsquo;a Sikh get-up&rsquo;. He described one attacker as &lsquo;over five feet tall and heavyset&rsquo; and the other as &lsquo;about 4 inches taller and leaner.&rsquo;&nbsp;
The men reportedly got into a waiting silver car with three other men waiting inside it. Malkit told the Washington Post that one of the running men even pointed a pistol at him before getting into the car.&nbsp;

Terming the relationship with India as "important", Canada's Defence Minister Bill Blair on Sunday said that his country will continue to pursue partnerships like the Indo-Pacific strategy while the investigation of the killing of a Sikh separatist leader continues.
Tensions flared between India and Canada ᨊfollowing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's explosive allegations of a "potential" involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45, on his country's soil on June 18 in British Columbia. India had designated Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020.
India angrily rejected the allegations as "absurd" and "motivated" and expelled a senior Canadian diplomat in a tit-for-tat move to Ottawa's expulsion of an Indian official over the case.
Canada had been seeking deeper trade, defence and immigration ties with India before the &ldquo;credible intelligence,&rdquo; as Trudeau called it, was first raised with Canadian officials, Global News reported.
In an interview aired Sunday on The West Block, Blair suggested Canada will continue to pursue those partnerships while the investigation into allegations continues, calling the relationship with India &ldquo;important.&rdquo; &ldquo;We understand that this can be, and has proven to be, a challenging issue with respect to our relationship with India,&rdquo; he was quoted as saying by Global News.
&ldquo;But at the same time, we have a responsibility to defend the law, defend our citizens, and at the same time make sure that we conduct a thorough investigation and get to the truth.&rdquo; If the allegations are proven true, Blair said &ldquo;there is a very significant concern that Canada will have with respect to the violation of our sovereignty in the murder of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil.&rdquo; Blair said the Indo-Pacific strategy was still a critical one for Canada and has led to an increased military presence in the region and commitments for further patrol capabilities.
The strategy commits USD 492.9 million over five years toward those military priorities, out of a total of nearly USD 2.3 billion over the same period.
On Thursday, India asked Canada to come down hard on terrorists and anti-India elements operating from its soil and suspended visa services for Canadians, as escalating tensions between the two nations over the killing of Nijjar pushed their ties to an all-time low.
India also asked Canada to downsize its diplomatic staff in the country, arguing that there should be parity in strength and rank equivalence in the mutual diplomatic presence. The size of Canadian diplomatic staff in India is larger than what New Delhi has in Canada.

The Indian government said that it has asked Canada to downsize its diplomatic presence in India.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs cited the "interference of Canadian diplomats in Indian affairs" as a factor behind the move.
"The Canadian diplomatic presence in India is larger than what India has and accordingly needs to be downsized," foreign ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi told reporters.
"We have informed the Canadian government that there should be parity in diplomatic presence. Their numbers are very much higher than ours in Canada... I assume there will be a reduction," he said.
This comes amid the tensions over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Terming Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations about India's involvement in the killing of a Sikh separatist leader as "very serious&rdquo;, a top US official has said that Washington supports Ottawa's efforts to investigate the matter and encourages New Delhi to cooperate.
"I'm going to protect diplomatic conversations and I'll leave it at that. Certainly, the President is mindful of these serious allegations, and they are very serious. And we support Canada's efforts to investigate this," US National Security Council (NSC) Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said.
"We believe a fully transparent comprehensive investigation is the right approach so that we can all know exactly what happened and of course, we encourage India to cooperate with that,&rdquo; Kirby said in an interview to CNN.
Kirby was responding to a question on Trudeau's allegations about the involvement of "agents of the Indian government" in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45, the chief of the banned Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF).
Nijjar was one of India&rsquo;s most-wanted terrorists who carried a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head and was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen outside a gurdwara in Surrey in the western Canadian province of British Columbia on June 18.
Kirby was asked about Trudeau raising the matter with President Joe Biden privately before going public and what information the Canadian leader shared with the US President about the matter.
"I'm going to be careful about what I say here to preserve the sanctity of this investigation and leave it for Canada to talk about the underpinning information, what more they're trying to learn. We want to respect that process and it's their investigation,&rdquo; Kirby added.
When further asked about what repercussions there will be due to the allegations, Kirby said, "Let's not get ahead of where we are. There's an active investigation. We think it needs to be fully transparent, comprehensive. We know that Canadians will work to that end".
"Again, we urge India to cooperate with that investigation so that the facts can take investigators where they go and then once we have all those facts, and we have conclusions that we can draw from that, then you can start to look at recommendations or behaviours you might want to pursue." In an interview to CBS News, Kirby said that "these allegations are serious and we know that the Canadians are investigating it. We certainly don't want to get ahead of that investigation".
"We urge India to cooperate in that investigation as well. This is the kind of an attack here that obviously we all want to know is handled in a transparent, thorough way. And that the Canadian people can get answers to this. So we're going stay in touch with our partners, both countries, and again we want to see the investigation be able to proceed unhindered and let the facts take it where it may," Kirby added.&nbsp;
