India has named a strong 15-member contingent and four travelling reserves to be led by Rohit Sharma for T20I cricket's showpiece event, which will be held in the West Indies and the USA starting June 1.
Sticking to his preference for a left-right batting combination throughout the line-up, Yuvraj has leaned towards Pant over Samson for the vital wicket-keeper's role.
"I'd probably go for Rishabh. Obviously, Sanju is also in great form, but Rishabh (is a) left-hander, and I believe that Rishabh has massive potential to win games for India, which he has done in the past," Yuvraj, an ambassador of the upcoming T20 World Cup, told ICC.
"Lot more in Test cricket, and he's someone who I feel can be a match-winner on the big stage."
While both Pant and Samson have been in sensational form in the IPL, India vice-captain Hardik has struggled to find his batting rhythm but Yuvraj remains optimistic about the all-rounder's impact in the T20 World Cup.
"Well, the good thing is that the selection has been made. (Selectors see) how players have performed in international cricket and then they look at IPL form. Just not the IPL form," said Yuvraj, who was part of India's 2007 World Cup-winning team.
"Because if you look at the IPL form, Hardik's not done well. Looking at his background for India, what he's done for India, it is important that he's in the squad. I think his bowling is going to be important, and his fitness is going to be important. And I think he might do something really special in this World Cup."
Talking about India's batting order, Yuvraj wants Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top followed by Virat Kohli.
"I think Rohit (Sharma) and (Yashasvi) Jaiswal should definitely open," Yuvraj said.
"Virat (Kohli) has been batting at No.3 and that's his position. And then you get Surya (Yadav) at four, and then you got a couple of big options.
"I'd like to see a couple of left-hand, right-hand combinations because it is harder to bowl at two combinations all the time." Yuvraj also felt that Shivam Dube has secured his place in the squad rightfully, but felt bad for Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill, who will be travelling as reserves.
"I think with Shivam Dube, the last T20 series he played for India, I think he did well. And he's been very consistent in the IPL as well," Yuvraj noted.
"I just felt the kind of form he's in, it was important for him to be in the squad. I really think he can make a huge difference in the middle order or the lower middle order, so it&rsquo;s good to see him in the Indian T20 squad.
"It was a bit unfortunate for Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh. If I talk about Rinku, obviously he has been in good form for India and he has done so well for KKR. And I see a lot of improvement in his batting in the last couple of years.
"Unfortunate for him and Shubman obviously, scoring tons of runs, from the last year someone who has scored the most number of hundreds for India. From the last two years, and to miss out, as I said that's the nature of selecting a World Cup squad and I'm sure these guys will be the first ones whenever there's an opportunity."
India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland before taking on Pakistan on June 9 at the newly constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

With Mumbai Indians' 2024 campaign concluding on Friday after their final league game against Lucknow Super Giants, Pandya's suspension will be enforced during the team&rsquo;s first match next season.
"Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 17," stated a media release.
"As it was his team&rsquo;s third offence of the season under the IPL&rsquo;s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 30 lakh and banned from playing the team&rsquo;s next match," it further clarified.
In addition to Pandya's suspension and fine, all other members of the team, including 'Impact Player' Rohit Sharma, have been fined either Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever amount is lower.
"The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," the release noted.
Although there is no fixed rule, it is typically the team management that covers these fines on behalf of the players, ensuring that the players do not bear the financial burden directly.
The Mumbai Indians faced challenges throughout the season, culminating in this disciplinary action as a result of their slow over-rate offences. As the team looks to regroup for the next season, the focus will likely include ensuring stricter adherence to over-rate regulations to avoid similar penalties in the future.

Similarly, LSG skipper KL Rahul, whose team also missed the playoffs, expressed his disappointment. "Very disappointing. At the start of the season, I felt we had a very strong season and most bases covered. A couple of injuries happened, but the guys who went away dented us a little bit," Rahul remarked, likely referring to the absence of the country's fastest bowler, Mayank Yadav.
"We didn't play well enough collectively and couldn't come together as much as we wanted to. Today was the kind of game we wanted to play more when the bowlers and batters both come together," he continued.
Rahul, who is not part of the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, was non-committal about his batting position in future T20 matches. "Maybe, maybe not, there's not much T20 cricket coming up [for me] now," he said when asked if he would consider batting in the middle order. "It depends on where I stand and what I need to do to get back in the team. I'll think about what the team needs," he added.

Hardik Pandya's commitment towards Indian cricket has been questionable over the years with someone like Jasprit Bumrah being more capable of playing the role of Rohit Sharma's deputy in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Americas, reckoned Mumbai Indians skipper's bete noire Irfan Pathan on Wednesday.
Pathan, the player of the final during the 2007 T20 World Cup has been a vocal critic of Pandya for the longest of time and has been consistent in taking potshots at the India all-rounder, who is also from Baroda.
"Post T20 World Cup, there was a new plan; they aimed for a younger team with Pandya and Surya as potential captains. Yet, questions arise regarding Pandya's performance consistency and commitment to Indian cricket," Pathan opined on Star Sports Press Room Show, Ticket to World Cup.

"Regular participation in domestic cricket is essential for serving Indian cricket throughout the year. Injuries are inevitable, but proper planning involving consistent match play, including domestic cricket, is vital for a player's return.
"But then there's this one player who returns from injury without fulfilling the same requirements. That shouldn't happen because it sends the wrong message to the rest of the team," Pathan was scathing in his accusation of Pandya being given special treatment.
"When they see one player receiving special treatment, it disrupts the team environment. Cricket isn't like tennis; it's a team sport where equality is vital. Every player should be treated fairly and equally.
"Regardless of whether you're a newcomer or a seasoned player like Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli, cricket is a team sport first and foremost," said Pathan, who has more than 300 wickets and over 2700 runs across formats in international cricket.
He believes Pandya doesn't deserve to be India's vice-captain.
"So, now, coming back to your question about Hardik Pandya being vice-captain, I understand the rationale behind it due to the importance of continuity in leadership.
"However, considering the current performance, the selectors opting for continuity may be understandable. Yet, I believe someone like Bumrah wouldn't have been a bad choice either."

"Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Punjab Kings at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur on April 18," said an IPL statement on Friday.
"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 12 lakhs," the statement added.
Mumbai Indians next play Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on April 22.

Mumbai police arrested Hardik Pandya's stepbrother for allegedly cheating cricketer and his brother Krunal in a polymer business scam worth over 4 crore rupees.
Vaibhav, aged 37, faces charges including breach of trust, intimidation, conspiracy, and forgery. He set up a new company, leading to a loss of around 3 crore rupees for the original partnership firm.
Vaibhav allegedly boosted his own profits by 20 to 33 percent, causing further financial harm to Hardik and Krunal. Vaibhav is also accused of transferring about 1 crore rupees from the partnership account to his personal one.
"The cricketer brothers along with their stepbrother set up a partnership-based firm in Mumbai and started polymer business in 2021. As per the partnership terms, the siblings invested 40 per cent each, while Vaibhav invested 20 percent capital. It was decided that Vaibhav would handle daily operations of the business and the profits were distributed in the same ratio," the official said.
"Vaibhav then set up another firm dealing in the same business without informing the cricketers and started the business. With this, he violated the partnership agreement," he said.
Due to the new company, the profits of the original partnership firm came down and caused a loss approximate Rs 3 crore, the official said.
During this period, he increased his own profit by 20 to 33 per cent and caused loss to Hardik Pandya and his brother. Vaibhav also diverted funds from the partnership account to his own, which is around Rs 1 crore, he added.
When he was confronted by the cricketer, he allegedly threatened to tarnish the latter's reputation, he said.
A complaint was lodged by the accountant of the cricketer at the Khar police station on Monday, based on which a case was registered and it was transferred to the EOW.
As the involvement of Vaibhav Pandya came to light in the crime, he was placed under arrest by the EOW officials on the same day, he said.
He was produced in a local court, which remanded him in police custody till Friday, he said.

"We have had conversations about how we have played. Hardik has been playing a really important job for our team," David told the media during Mumbai Indians' training session at the Wankhede Stadium on the eve of their clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
"Look at the last match (vs Delhi Capitals), we struggled really hard for momentum towards the back end (against Delhi Capitals). Hardik played a perfect innings that set the platform for myself and Romario (Shepherd) to go on with at the end," David added.
"We got ourselves to a platform and he got that one ball that he could have hit for six. He hit it high on the bat and missed the middle and he is out (and) that is how the game goes."
The Australian all-rounder said having an extra batter in the line-up with the impact player rule in place could allow some batting line-ups like Kolkata Knight Riders to go boom or bust, but Pandya holds the innings together.
"With the extra freedom of having an extra batter, there is maybe a little bit less responsibility. Some people are playing with a little bit more freedom or throwing caution to the wind. It goes both ways. KKR, the way they have been playing, they have been scoring a lot of runs.
"The other night, they were playing the same way (against Chennai Super Kings). They were looking to go big or bust a bit. They fall in a heap in the middle order." "Like I said at the start, we had Hardik playing a middle order role in the last match. He was the glue that held us together and gave us a chance to play with freedom at the back end," he added.
"Hardik has been phenomenal in the way he has been playing for the team. That is what we need at some point. Sometimes it is me, sometimes it is other guys." David said the team has absolutely no concerns with the way their skipper has batted so far.
"You could go look at the first game where Hardik hit two boundaries in his first two balls. (We have) absolutely full faith in him. We know his power; we know how good he is. When he gets into that situation, he is going to win games for us," David added.
