April 8, 2025: In a distressing incident, actor and Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan, revealed that his son, Mark Shankar Pawanovich, was injured in a recent school fire in Singapore. Kalyan informed the public that Mark is currently hospitalized and slowly recuperating. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his support by personally contacting Pawan Kalyan, offering words of encouragement that provided strength during this challenging time. Additionally, the Indian High Commissioner in Singapore has been directed to offer necessary assistance. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu also reached out to express his concern. Pawan Kalyan expressed gratitude towards the numerous well-wishers, including politicians, actors, and others who prayed for his son&rsquo;s swift recovery, holding poojas at temples on Mark&rsquo;s behalf. &ldquo;Mark Shankar is gradually recovering due to these good-hearted wishes and blessings. I sincerely thank everyone,&rdquo; Kalyan stated. The fire broke out in a shophouse on River Valley Road in Singapore, where several individuals, including children, were caught in the blaze. Pawan Kalyan&rsquo;s eight-year-old son, Mark, sustained burns on his limbs and suffered from smoke inhalation. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) quickly responded to control the fire. At the time of the incident, Pawan Kalyan was in Andhra Pradesh's Alluri Sitarama Raju district on an official visit, engaging with local communities. He promptly canceled his remaining engagements in Visakhapatnam to fly to Singapore and be with his son. Mark, who attends school in Singapore, is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. Pawan Kalyan and his third wife, Anna Lezhneva, have two children&mdash;Mark and their daughter, Polena. The family maintains a low profile, rarely appearing in public together.

Nearly two million people die each year due to work-related injuries and illnesses, with 1.9 million deaths recorded in 2016 alone. Among the leading causes of death were chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (415,000 deaths), strokes, and ischaemic heart disease.
The COVID-19 pandemic, which normalized the concept of working from home, further exacerbated the problem, making it even more evident that long hours are increasingly becoming detrimental to people's health. In addition to these conditions, the report highlighted 19 other occupational risk factors, including exposure to harmful substances like asbestos and prolonged sitting, which can lead to various health problems.

As conversations around work-life balance grow louder, Subrahmanyan&rsquo;s call for longer hours seems increasingly out of touch with modern concerns about employee health and well-being. A recent study, published in the medical journal Diabetologia, analysed the behaviour of over 2,000 participants aged 40-75 to examine how they spent their time sitting, standing, sleeping, and engaging in physical activities.
<h3>How much should you sit, stand and sleep daily?</h3>
According to the researchers, the ideal breakdown of the perfect daily routine for optimal health should be: 6 hours of sitting, 5 hours and 10 minutes of standing, 2 hours and 10 minutes of light-to-moderate physical activity, 2 hours and 10 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, and 8 hours and 20 minutes of sleep.
The study revealed a clear trend of less sitting, more standing, activity, and sleep for better health.
&ldquo;This breakdown encompasses a wide range of health markers and converges on the 24 hours associated with overall optimal health,&rdquo; said Christian Brakenridge, from the Centre for Urban Transitions, Swinburne University of Technology.
&ldquo;For different health markers, from waist circumference to fasting glucose, there would be different levels for each behaviour,&rdquo; added Brakenridge, also the lead author of the study published in the journal Diabetologia.
