In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing decisive war against drugs, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has apprehended three drug smugglers and recovered 5 kg heroin and Rs 4.45 lakh drug money from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Thursday.
Those arrested have been identified as Husanpreet Singh, a resident of Prime City at Chheharta in Amritsar, Karandeep Singha alias Manna and Maninder Singh, both residents of Attari Mandi in Amritsar. Apart from recovering heroin and drug money, Police teams have also impounded their Honda Activa (PB02DK8780) and Hero Deluxe HF (PB02EP5854), which they were riding.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that team of CI Amritsar has received a tip-off that accused Karandeep Singh and Maninder Singh are indulged in the smuggling of heroin and recently retrieved a huge consignment of heroin dropped with the help of drones by Pakistan smugglers and are going to supply it further to drug smuggler Husanpreet Singh.
The tip further revealed that both the accused persons are coming at the Amritsar-Attari Road near Punjabi Bagh Palace on a white Honda Activa to deliver this drug consignment to drug smuggler Husanpreet Singh, who is also reaching there on his black Motorcycle Hero Deluxe HF, he said.
The DGP said that acting swiftly, teams from CI Amritsar laid a special naka near Punjabi Bagh Resort at Attari Road and arrested all the accused persons after recovering heroin consignment and drug money from their possession. Further investigations are to establish forward and backward linkages in this case and identify Pak-based drug smugglers, he added.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 67 dated 04.12.2024 has been registered under section 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar. Due to the recovery of drug money in this case from the accused, the severity of the offence in this FIR has been enhanced by incorporating section 27-A of the NDPS Act.

Indian agencies seized 86 kilogrammes&nbsp;of contraband, suspected to be heroin, off the Gujarat coast worth over Rs 600 crore from a Pakistani fishing vessel, making it one of the biggest seizures amidst ongoing elections.

The officials have arrested 14 members of the crew, who all belong to Pakistan.
&ldquo;Due to the enforcement of MCC in the country, all the enforcement agencies are on high alert in the State. During this period, information was received by K K Patel, Superintendent of Police, Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) that a Pakistani drug operative named Haji Aslam alias Babu Baloch would be sending a Pakistani fishing boat, &lsquo;Alraza&rsquo; bearing registration number 339-BB-BFD from Karachi harbour to deliver narcotic substance like Heroin or Methamphetamine,&rdquo; the statement said.
According to the News 18 outlet, the Karachi-origin boat was to deliver the contraband in the intervening night of April 25 and April 26 in the Indian waters off Porbandar Coast, which would then be transported to a Dhow from Tamil Nadu to be further delivered to Sri Lanka-based drug operatives.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The Indian Coast Guard and Gujarat ATS team that had tried to board the vessel for checking was obstructed by the crew of the suspect boat and to restrain the crew and to stop the fleeing vessel, firepower was used in which one member of the crew of the vessel sustained bullet injuries,&rdquo; the statement added.
During the encounter, Nazir Hussain Azam Khan aged 62, who is the master of the boat, had suffered a bullet injury during the mid-sea operation and was evacuated for further medical care.
He has been operated upon and is presently in stable condition. The suspect Pakistani fishing boat, &lsquo;Alraza&rsquo; was carrying 14 crew members, all Pakistani nationals, and the search of the boat revealed contraband material.

At 8:56 pm on Monday, the troop heard the sound of a drone from the Pakistan side when it was hovering over Kalia village.
The personnel fired in that direction, and during the search, they recovered 2.47 kg heroin wrapped in a yellow polythene, the officials said.

"A metal ring meant for the release of the consignment from the drone was also found attached with it," an official said.
The personnel carried out another round of search operation on Tuesday morning during which they found the broken drone lying the field.
&ldquo;The BSF troops once again foiled a smuggling attempt,&rdquo; the official said.
There has been a spurt in the movement of Pakistani drones near the international border in the last few days.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested two Zimbabweans with 7.9 kg of heroin worth Rs 50 crore at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, an official said on Sunday.
Based on specific information, the DRI's Mumbai zonal unit laid a trap at the airport on Friday and intercepted a man and a woman travelling from Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), the official said.
On searching their baggage, the team found some packets containing light brown powder concealed in their trolley bags, he said.
The powder tested positive for the presence of heroin and the contraband weighed 7.9 kg, the official said, adding that the value of the seized drug is Rs 50 crore in the international market.

A Pakistani fishing boat with six crew members and carrying 77 kg of heroin worth around ₹400 crore was caught in the Indian waters off the Gujarat coast on Monday.
The drug seizure was made in a joint operation by the Indian Coast Guard and the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad, around 35 nautical miles off the Jakhau coast in Kutch district of Gujarat.
ATS in a statement said that the Pakistani boat, 'Al Huseini', had left the Karachi port and was trying to establish contact using very high frequency radio channel and code words for the delivery of the drugs.
Preliminary interrogation of the captured Pakistani nationals revealed the heroin was supplied by two Pakistani smugglers, identified as Haji Hasan and Haji Hasam. According to the tip-off, it was to be delivered to people associated with the underworld in Punjab, the ATS said.

Drugs Worth Rs 15 crore Seized 

Lahorijan Police seized over three kgs of heroin from a truck on the National Highway 39 and arrested two people involved in drug trafficking. The driver of the truck too has been arrested. The two traffickers have been identified as Bhim Gurung, 33 and Rame Gurung, 27. Both are from Manipur. The price of the seized drugs in the international market is estimated at Rs 15 crore. The Lahorijan police patrol team was headed by Manujal Gogoi, In Charge of the patrol team, Sub Inspector Raju Bahadur Chetry and officer in charge of Dillai police station. Further investigation is on.
