Honda, the renowned Japanese automotive giant, is poised to introduce its mid-sized SUV, Elevate, into the Japanese market next year. This marks a significant milestone as it will be the first product from Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), a wholly-owned subsidiary, to enter the tightly regulated Japanese market, reported PTI.
The Elevate, crafted by Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) at its Tapukara facility in Rajasthan, is set to make its debut in Japan in Spring 2024 under the brand name WR-V, as confirmed by an HCIL spokesperson.
This move signifies HCIL's groundbreaking venture, manufacturing a model in India for export to Japan for the first time. The spokesperson highlighted this as a testament to India's manufacturing capabilities, positioning the country as a pivotal export hub within Honda's global business strategy.

Emphasizing the readiness of HCIL's Tapukara plant to cater to both domestic and export requirements, the spokesperson reiterated that Elevate had already made a successful entry into the Indian market in September this year. As part of its strategic roadmap, HCIL aims to unveil five SUV models in India by 2030, commencing with this launch.
Electric Evolution: Elevate's Next Phase
In a forward-looking approach, HCIL has plans to introduce a battery-electric variant of the Elevate within the next three years. Presently, the vehicle runs on a 1.5-liter petrol engine, coupled with a choice between a six-speed manual transmission and a seven-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Notably, Honda Cars India previously announced intentions to introduce an all-electric version of the Elevate mid-size SUV by 2026. The company is now intensifying efforts to deliver an electric iteration of the Elevate within the next three years.
According to PTI, Takuya Tsumura, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, has underscored the company's dedication to developing a battery-electric variant of the Honda Elevate.

Honda will return as a factory Formula One supplier in partnership with Aston Martin in 2026 when F1 introduces new engine regulations, even if Fernando Alonso is still with the team.
Alonso and the engine maker had a nasty split in 2015 when the Spaniard was highly critical of Honda's F1 efforts.
He drives for Aston Martin now, and the team announced on Wednesday in Tokyo that it will have a works partnership with Honda beginning with the 2026 season.
Honda was lured back into a more prominent engine role in F1 with the upcoming new regulations, which are part of F1's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
The engines beginning in 2026 will have an engine/electric motor maximum power output ratio of 50/50 and use 100% sustainable fuel.
Ford has said it plans to return to F1 in 2026 under the new regulations with Red Bull, while General Motors under its Cadillac banner wants in if Michael Andretti is granted a team.
Honda officially pulled out as a works program with Red Bull after the 2021 season &mdash; Max Verstappen's first championship year &mdash; and it has only aided as a technical partner for both Red Bull and AlphaTauri since. Aston Martin gets its engines from Mercedes.
The FIA has so far approved for 2026 engines from Alpine, Audi, Ferrari, Honda, Mercedes, and Red Bull with Ford. Audi will also be a new entrant.

Honda is recalling a half-million vehicles in the U.S. and Canada because the front seat belts may not latch properly.
The recall covers some of the the automaker's top-selling models including the 2017 through 2020 CR-V, the 2018 and 2019 Accord, the 2018 through 2020 Odyssey and the 2019 Insight. Also included is the Acura RDX from the 2019 and 2020 model years.
Honda says in documents posted by U.S. safety regulators that the surface coating on the channel for the buckle can deteriorate over time. The release button can shrink against the channel at lower temperatures, increasing friction and stopping the buckle from latching.
If the buckle doesn't latch, a driver or passenger may not be restrained in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Honda says it has not received reports of injuries caused by the problem.
Dealers will replace the front seat belt buckle release buttons or the buckle assemblies if needed. Owners will be notified by letter starting April 17.
