Rahul Gandhi said, "I don't know why you are calling it a lapse."

Following concerns that a man's attempt to hug Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra put his security at risk, the Congress leader commented on the incident.
Gandhi reportedly said, "I could see a person who came to hug me, I don't know why you are calling it a lapse."
"There is a lot of enthusiasm in this Yatra and it happens. Security people checked him and he was just excited," he added.
During Rahul Gandhi's march in Punjab's Hoshiarpur on 17 January 2023, a man ran towards the Congress leader. The man attempted to hug Gandhi, but was pushed away by Congress workers.

Punjab Police said that it was not a security breach.

Bharat Jodo Yatra: security scare as man tries to hug Rahul Gandhi, pulled away

A major security scare took place at Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra on 17 January 2023.
During Rahul Gandhi's march in Punjab's Hoshiarpur, a man ran towards the Congress leader. The man attempted to hug Gandhi, but was pushed away by Congress workers.
He was later taken away from the spot. Punjab Police said that it was not a security breach.
The Congress had last month written to Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging "security breaches" during the Yatra in the national capital and demanded immediate steps to ensure the security of Gandhi and others taking part in the yatra.
Dismissing the allegations, the government had said "full" security arrangements were made for Gandhi in accordance with laid-down guidelines but he himself "violated" security protocols 113 times since 2020.

A defiant Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hit back at the&nbsp;BJP after two top leaders of the saffron party targeted&nbsp;him and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over the rape of a 6-year-old Dalit girl in Congress-ruled Punjab.&nbsp;Responding to the attack by union ministers&nbsp;Niramala&nbsp;Sithraman&nbsp;and Prakash&nbsp;Javedekar, who asked the brother-sister duo why they hadn&rsquo;t visited the girl&rsquo;s family in Hoshiarpur&nbsp;like they had in&nbsp;Hathras&nbsp;in BJP-ruled&nbsp;Uttar Pradesh, Rahul in a twitter post wrote that&nbsp;unlike the Yogi Adityanath government, the Congress governments in Rajasthan and Punjab&nbsp;were not denying that the girls were raped, and their families weren&rsquo;t threatened and the course of justice wasn&rsquo;t blocked. Captain points to difference in Hathras & Hoshiarpur, defends Gandhis

Dubbing their remarks as &lsquo;political puffery&rsquo; with no substance or basis to support their criticism,&nbsp;Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday hit out at BJP leaders Nirmala Sitharaman and Prakash Javadekar for their comments over the Hoshiarpur rape-murder case. Defending Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, Captain said&nbsp;pointed out that in the&nbsp;Hathras&nbsp;case, the Uttar Pradesh government and police &ldquo;did not only fail&rdquo; to initiate stern action but in fact was seemingly &ldquo;trying to cover up&rdquo; the matter to benefit the upper-caste accused.&nbsp;This, he said, was in sharp contrast to the prompt action taken by the Punjab Police, who immediately arrested the accused and is now preparing to file the challan within a week.&nbsp;The BJP attacked the Congress on Saturday over alleged rape and killing of a six-year-old girl in Hoshiarpur, as it asked&nbsp;Gandhi duo&nbsp;why had they not paid a visit to the family of the victim yet.&nbsp;The CM, in a statement, said he himself had directed the director general of police to ensure that the case is fast-tracked by the courts to ensure strict and exemplary action for the accused.&nbsp; &nbsp;

The rape and murder of a six-year-old Dalit girl in Congress-ruled Punjab&rsquo;s Hoshiarpur has given BJP fresh ammunition to target the Gandhi family. Union minister Nirmala Sithraman has questioned Rahul Gandhi&rsquo;s silence on the incident. She took a jibe asking why is Rahul Gandhi not going to Hoshiarpur on a &lsquo;picnic&rsquo;, adding incidents of rape should not be politicised.
Referring to Rahul and Priyanka&rsquo;s outrage over Hathras incident, Sitharaman also asked why the Hoshiarpur incident doesn't shake the conscience of the brother and sister who rush to places which can help them politically.
Earlier Union Minister Javadekar also targeted the Gandhis on this issue.
