Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has approved Rs 1,128.21 crore for construction of seven ESI Hospitals in Karnataka, UP, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.&nbsp;
<h3>New hospitals</h3>
These hospitals will add 800 beds to the existing medical care infrastructure of ESIC. The construction of the hospitals will also begin soon. The decision was taken at a meeting of Standing Committee of ESIC on Tuesday under the chairpersonship of Union Labour Secretary Sumita Dawra, a labour ministry statement said.
The seven ESI Hospitals will be constructed at Harohalli, Narsapura, Bommasandra (Karnataka), Merrut, Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh), Pithampur (Madhya Pradesh) and Duburi (Odisha).
Besides this, important decisions aimed at enhancing the availability of medical care and cash benefits to insured workers and their family members were taken.

It was decided to establish Sub-Regional Office at Alwar, Rajasthan.
Around 12 lakh insured workers and beneficiaries of ESI scheme residing in Alwar, Khairthal-Tijara, Kothputilli-Behror, Bharatpur and Deeg will be benefitted with establishment of the ESIC Sub-Regional Office at Alwar.
These decisions are in line with the vision for Viksit Bharat, to augment the medical and cash benefits delivery infrastructure, it stated.
There has been an exponential growth in the number of districts and insured workers covered under the ESI scheme during the last ten years, with their numbers rising to 666 and 3.43 crore, respectively

A video has come to light where a man was seen entering a hospital's emergency ward carrying an unconscious grandfather on a bike. This incident took place at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel District Hospital in Madhya Pradesh&rsquo;s Satna.&nbsp;
As per reports, the man who was seen in the video carried his grandfather on the bike to the hospital as the latter fell ill on Saturday night. The video of the incident has gone viral on the internet.&nbsp;
When the doctor found out about the incident, he scolded the man for bringing his bike inside the emergency room.&nbsp;

Twenty-four deaths, including that of 12 infants, have been reported in the last 24 hours in a government hospital in Nanded, a top Maharashtra health official said on Monday.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said that several infrastructural issues led to the death of 24 patients, including 12 babies, in a period of 24 hours on October 2.&nbsp;
Chavan even visited the hospital and reviewed the situation.&nbsp;
The Congress leader said that 70 patients are in critical condition in the hospital and the state government needs to take a decision on a war footing to save their lives.&nbsp;
Chavan said Dr. Shamrao Wakode, the hospital dean and District Surgeon Nilakant Bhosikar told him that the nurses were transferred but no new appointments were made to the vacant posts and there is also a huge shortage of doctors.
He added that the hospital is facing a financial crisis due to non-approval of funds and because of that contracts for maintenance of CT scan machines and other equipment were not paid.
Many machines were shut down due to lack of maintenance.
Ashok Chavan said that while the capacity of the Nanded Hospital is 500 patients, it is treating about 1,200 patients.
&lsquo;I have suggested to the administration that private doctors should be called for treatment of the 70 patients who are critical.&rsquo;
He also had a discussion over the phone with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's office and asked for immediate action.
Chavan added that it is not the time for politics so he will not indulge in a blame-game but added that government needs to act swiftly.

Senior party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra demanded strict action against those responsible for the death of 24 patients in as many hours in a government hospital in Maharashtra's Nanded. She also sought compensation for the affected families.
In a post in Hindi on X, Priyanka Gandhi said she received the "sad news" of the death of 24 patients, including 12 infants, due to the shortage of medicines from Maharashtra.
"May God grant peace to the departed souls. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families," she said.
"Strict action should be taken against those responsible and compensation should be given to the affected families," she added.
A three-member expert committee has been set up to probe the incident, the official said.

"I need protection. My life is in danger," the Rithala MLA told the House.

A woman in Germany has been arrested for allegedly switching off ventilator of a co-patient after she apparently found its sound annoying.
The 72-year-old accused has been booked on suspicion of attempted manslaughter.
The incident has been reported from a hospital in Germany&rsquo;s Mannheim city.&nbsp;
Police said the woman apparently switched off the ventilator despite knowing patient&rsquo;s condition and being told by hospital staff to refrain from anything that would jeopardize a life.
The accused, as per the Guardian, allegedly switched off the device twice and the victim had to be revived.
Victim's condition is said to be stable but continues to require intensive care, The Guardian added.

A purported video of a man lying unconscious on the floor of a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh with his face covered in blood has yet again brought to fore the conditions of public healthcare system in the country.&nbsp;
The video reportedly from a district hospital in Kushinagar shows the man lying on the floor unattended while a dog walks around him.&nbsp;
NDTV quoted the hospital's doctor-in charge SK Varma as saying that the man had received severe head and face injuries in an accident. He added that the man was drunk and fell off the bed multiple times.&nbsp;
NDTV also reported that the doctor and ward boy were attending another patient in a different ward when the video was shot.&nbsp;

If found guilty, strict action will be taken against the hospital," Pathak tweeted in Hindi. Earlier, the hospital was sealed after a preliminary inquiry revealed that "some irregularities" were found according to Additional Chief Medical Officer, Dr AK Tiwari. "The (CMO) chief medical officer ordered a probe after the patient died.
In the probe, some irregularities were found. The hospital has been sealed till the probe is completed," the additional CMO said on Thursday.

Several putrefied bodies have been found dumped on the rooftop of a public sector hospital in Pakistan's Punjab province that sparked outcry on social media over their desecration.
Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi on Friday took a strict notice of this and formed a high-powered committee to investigate the matter. The six-member committee headed by specialised healthcare secretary Muzamil Bashir has been given three days to complete the probe and fix the responsibility.
Adviser to the Chief Minister Chaudhry Zaman Gujjar on Thursday visited the Nishter Hospital in Multan, some 350 kms from Lahore, and found several "abandoned" bodies on the roof of the hospital's mortuary.
The Chief Minister has ordered cremation of the abandoned bodies and directed the health authorities to take action against the employees involved in the matter.
Nishtar Medical University&rsquo;s Prof Dr Maryam Asharf said in a statement on Friday that it received &ldquo;unclaimed, unidentified and unknown dead bodies&rdquo; from the police department. &ldquo;The process of decomoposition has begun in such bodies and they were put on the roof of the dead house for different medical purposes. These bodies are used for medical experiments by students and this is done in accordance with rules laid down of the government,&rdquo; she said.

A Jamia Millia Islamia student was shot at and injured by another student inside the Holy Family Hospital in southeast Delhi's Jamia Nagar area Thursday evening, police said.
Around 8.50 pm, information was received regarding a quarrel at Jamia Millia Islamia university library, they said.
During inquiry, it was found that the fight had ensued between two groups of students, a senior police officer said.
In the incident, one student, Noman Chaudhary (26), a resident of Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh, sustained blunt injury on his head and had gone to the Holy Family Hospital for treatment, the officer said.
Another student, Nauman Ali, an associate of Nauman Chaudhary, also visited the hospital to see his friend, they said.
Meanwhile, one student of the second group, Zalal, a resident of Mewat in Haryana, accompanied by his friends came to the hospital and fired at Nauman Ali outside the emergency ward, the officer said.
Nauman Ali had a superficial injury on the scalp. The injured had been shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. The crime team is inspecting the scene of crime. Legal action has been initiated accordingly at Jamia Nagar and New Friends Colony police stations, the officer added.

They removed the charred body of Dr Ravisankar Reddy from the second floor of the building.
The children -- a 11-year-old daughter and seven-year-old-son -- panicked after thick smoke emanated from the ground floor and bolted themselves in a bathroom resulting in their suffocation, police said.
An electric short circuit in the kitchen and subsequent cooking gas cylinder leak there bolstered the fire that spread quickly and engulfed the entire first floor adorned with wooden furniture, police said.
The doctors' family was running an out-patient clinic on the ground floor of their three-storied building, police further said.

The young politician who is also the state health minister turned up wearing casual clothes past midnight to take a stock of conditions at the hospitals.&nbsp;
The hospitals where the deputy CM conducted surprise checks included PMCH, the state's largest government health facility, besides the hospitals at Gardiner Road and Gardani Bagh.
During his visits, Yadav was visibly displeased at the lack of cleanliness on the premises, poor availability of medicines and the apparent indifference towards their duty by those on the night roster.
He even pulled up Patna Medical College&rsquo;s superintendent who was all set to go to bed in his office during duty hours moments before Tejashwi Yadav arrived.&nbsp;
Notably, the health department had remained with the BJP for the entire period and Nitish Kumar remained an NDA ally.

Drobot allegedly paid bribes to doctors, chiropractors, and marketers for referral of thousands of patients to Pacific Hospital for surgeries and other medical services. The hospital was paid for the medical procedures through the California workers’ compensation system.
Tantuwaya said that he knew the receipt of money was illegal, and that he owed a fiduciary duty to his patients to not take money in exchange for referring them to Pacific Hospital.
So far, 23 defendants have been convicted for participating in the kickback scheme.

A controversy has broken out in Odisha over a video apparently showing a sick Padma Shri awardee being forced to dance at a hospital.
Kamala Pujari, who is in her 70s, was allegedly forced to dance at the hospital before being discharged on 29 August 2022, as per reports. A social worker named Mamata Behera has been accused of forcing the Padma Shri awardee to dance despite being unwell. The social worker also danced with Kamala Pujari in the video.
Leaders of the Paraja tribal community, to which Pujari belongs, demanded action against the social worker. The accused, Mamata Behera, has claimed that she had no bad intention, and wanted to shun Pujari’s laziness, according to news agency PTI.
Pujari was conferred with the Padma Shri in 2019 for promoting organic farming and preserving over 100 varieties of indigenous seeds of different crops including paddy. She was hospitalised over some kidney ailments.

A controversy has broken out in Odisha over a video apparently showing a sick Padma Shri awardee being forced to dance at a hospital.
Kamala Pujari, who is in her 70s, was allegedly forced to dance at the hospital before being discharged on 29 August 2022, as per reports. A social worker named Mamata Behera has been accused of forcing the Padma Shri awardee to dance despite being unwell. The social worker also danced with Kamala Pujari in the video.

Leaders of the Paraja tribal community, to which Pujari belongs, demanded action against the social worker. The accused, Mamata Behera, has claimed that she had no bad intention, and wanted to shun Pujari&rsquo;s laziness, according to news agency PTI.
Pujari was conferred with the Padma Shri in 2019 for promoting organic farming and preserving over 100 varieties of indigenous seeds of different crops including paddy. She was hospitalised over some kidney ailments.

Four people were killed and nine others injured in a fire that broke out at a private hospital here on Monday, an official said.
Jabalpur Collector Dr Ilayaraja T said a rescue operation was on at the hospital to evacuate patients.
The collector confirmed the death of four people and injuries to nine others in the blaze.
However, it was not immediately clear if the deceased included patients.
The fire erupted at New Life Multi-speciality Hospital near Damoh Naka under the Gohalpur police station area of Jabalpur in the afternoon, Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddharth Bahuguna told PTI.
Prima facie it appears a short circuit caused the blaze, he said.

He said evacuation of patients and other people from the 30-bed hospital was over and no one was trapped in the building.
The Collector said there were 20 to 25 people in the hospital when the blaze started.

A video purportedly showing a government doctor checking an ailing woman on a rickshaw by the roadside instead of providing her a stretcher and admitting her to hospital has gone viral, following which the government has initiated proceedings to terminate him from service.
According to officials, the woman exhibited symptoms of HIV and her son-in-law carried her to the MMG District Hospital here in the rickshaw for anti-retroviral therapy. They were accompanied by the woman's husband and children.
However, Dr Sheel Verma attended to her in the rickshaw itself and referred her to Meerut Medical College. The incident took place on Wednesday, the officials said.
As the video went viral, Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak ordered Chief Medical Officer Dr Bhavtosh Shankhdhar to get an inquiry conducted into the incident.
Chief Medical Superintendent Manoj Kumar Chaturvedi, who conducted the inquiry on Thursday, said a report seeking Dr Verma's termination has been sent to the government, while ward boy Mayank, who accompanied the doctor, has already been sacked.

A 64-year-old patient died at a hospital in Delhi's Rohini area in the early hours of Saturday after his oxygen support was disrupted due to a fire at the facility, officials said.
The fire, apparently caused due to a short circuit, broke out on the third floor of Brahm Shakti Hospital, Pooth Khurd, they said.
The information regarding the fire was received around 5 am, following which the local police reached the spot and called fire tenders, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Pranav Tayal said.
Delhi Fire Services (DFS) Director Atul Garg said a total of nine fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. The fire has been completely doused, Garg said.
All were safely rescued except one patient, who was admitted to the ICU and on a ventilator support, the DCP said.
Holi, a kidney patient and resident of Prem Nagar, was taken out but he died due to the disruption in power and oxygen support, DCP Tayal said.
No operational fire fighting system was found in place and the fire exit door was found locked/blocked, they said.
A case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible mat­ter), 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery), and 304A (causing death by negligence) is being registered in this regard at the Vijay Vihar police station, the DCP said.
Fire incidents were reported at Safdarjung Hospital in south Delhi and at Makkar Multispeciality Hospital in the eastern part of the city on May 27 and there was no casualty.
