The IAF's Court of Inquiry examined 16 witnesses and found 3 members of the Combat team responsible for the incident.

Two years after the Brahmos combat missile accidentally landed in Pakistan, the Indian Airforce gave an explanation to the Delhi High Court on how the whole incident unfolded.
According to the Economic Times newspaper report, the IAF told the court on March 29 that combat connectors of the Brahmos missile remained connected to the junction box which led to the accidental firing of the missile.
The Air Force further said that the incident caused a loss of ₹25 crore to the government exchequer.
It told the court that the incident had the effect of affecting the relations between India and Pakistan.&nbsp;
According to reports, the IAF's Court of Inquiry examined 16 witnesses and found Group Captain Saurabh Gupta, Squadron Leader Pranjal Singh, and Wing Commander Abhinav Sharma &ndash; all members of the Combat Team &ndash; responsible for the incident.
"The incident caused "potential threat to any airborne/ground object/personnel and also causing damage to the reputation of Indian Air Force and the nation at large and a loss of ₹24,90,85,000.00 to the government exchequer," the IAF said.
It has told the HC that a "conscious and considered decision" was taken to invoke the "President's pleasure" clause to terminate the services of three officials.
The IAF's reply came in response to a petition filed by Wing Commander Abhinav Sharma in the Delhi HC ascribing blame on the Air Commodore and Squadron Leader for "ignoring and overriding the safety precaution popups" and ignoring the "bright and conspicuous red colour warning regarding the danger of firing a live weapon".
Denying the charge, the IAF has said that Air Commodore JT Kurien "was not responsible for the operations undertaken by the unit" as alleged by the petitioner.

'Defender of the North': IAF deploys new fighter jet squadron in Srinagar

MiG-29s were the first aircraft to have been deployed in the Ladakh sector for tacking the threat from the Chinese side after the Galwan clash of 2020 and have thwarted multiple such attempts since then.

India has deployed a squadron of upgraded MiG-29 fighter jets at the Srinagar air base to tackle threats from both the Pakistani and Chinese front.
The Tridents squadron which is now also known as the 'Defender of the North' has replaced the MiG-21 squadron at the Srinagar air base which has traditionally been responsible for taking care of the threat from Pakistan.
"Srinagar lies in the centre of Kashmir valley and its elevation is higher than plains. It is strategically better to place an aircraft with a higher weight-to-thrust ratio and less response time due to proximity to the border and is equipped with better avionics and long-range missiles. The MiG-29 fulfils all these criteria due to which we are capable of taking in the enemies on both fronts," Indian Air Force pilot Squadron Leader Vipul Sharma told news agency ANI.
The MiG 29s have multiple advantages over the MiG-21s which were able to successfully defend the area of their responsibility in the Kashmir valley for many years and also managed to strike down an F-16 in 2019 post Balakot air strikes on Pakistani terrorist camps.

The Leh airport was closed for operations on Tuesday after the runway was blocked by IAF's C-17 Globemaster due to technical issues in the plane.
The runway was rendered non-operational and led to flight diversions and cancellations.
The heavy-lifter aircraft was on a routine air maintenance sortie when it landed at Leh on Tuesday. However, the technical issue with the plane is not a serious one, as per officials.

Two Indian Air Force fighter jets- a Sukhoi 30MKI and a Mirage-2000 aircraft crashed in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district during a routine training mission on Saturday.
While two pilots of the Sukhoi aircraft ejected safely, Wg Cdr Hanumanth Rao Sarathi the pilot of the Mirage-2000 lost his life.
The two fighter jets had flown from the Gwalior airport, which also serves as an IAF base.
IAF in a statement said, the fighter jets were on a routine operational flying training mission and an inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the accident.
Morena District Collector Ankit Asthana confirmed that the debris of both aircraft fell in the Pahargarh area of the district. Some debris also fell in the Bharatpur area in Rajasthan, which borders Madhya Pradesh.
According to PTI, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was briefed by the Chief of Air Staff Air on the crash.

A ceremonial parade was held at the air force station here Saturday morning on the occasion.

The Indian Air Force on Monday scrambled its fighter aircraft following a bomb scare on board a civilian plane bearing Iranian registration and followed the plane at a safe distance, the IAF said.
"The aircraft was offered the option to land at Jaipur and then, at Chandigarh. However, the pilot declared his unwillingness to divert to either of the two airports," the IAF said in a statement.
"On October 3, intimation was received of a bomb scare on an airline bearing Iranian registration, when it was transiting through Indian airspace. IAF fighter aircraft were scrambled, which followed the aircraft at a safe distance," it said. After a while, intimation was received from Tehran to disregard the bomb scare, following which, the aircraft continued on its journey towards its final destination, it added. It is learnt the aircraft's destination was China.
"All actions were taken by IAF as per the laid down procedure, jointly with Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS)," the IAF said.
It said the aircraft was under close radar surveillance by the Air Force throughout the Indian airspace.
It is learnt the Air Traffic Control at Delhi airport remained in contact with IAF when the aircraft was in Indian airspace.&nbsp;

Amid the ongoing military deployment along the China front, Air Force's only female Weapon System Operator in the Sukhoi-30 fighter fleet on Tuesday said pilots in the eastern sector were ready to respond to any eventuality in the area and prove their mettle in real operations.
During a visit to the Tezpur forward air base close to the China border in the eastern sector, team ANI witnessed the fighter aircraft operations of the Su-30 fighter aircraft which has been made more lethal with the induction of new weapons and electronic warfare systems.
"Being part of any actual operation is what every fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force trains for because that is where we would get to show our mettle. Our pilots from various bases in the eastern sector are ready to respond in case of any eventuality. We are always ready for any kind of tasks and challenges that may come upon us," Flight Lieutenant Tejaswi told ANI during an interaction at the forward base.The WSOs or wizzos are specialist officers required to fly in the rear cockpit of multirole Su-30 fighter aircraft and handle the sensors and weapons to be fired by the aircraft at enemy targets.
Speaking exclusively to ANI on being asked about how she felt being part of operations during the ongoing standoff with China at the borders, she said, "What runs through, our minds is not very different during demanding times because such operations are an execution of what we practice on a daily basis."
Asked about the experience of fighter pilots during the multiple joint Army-Air Force joint operations during the recent wargames, another Su-30 fighter pilot Flight Lieutenant Sakshya Bajpai said the experience of flying during these wargames was always very thrilling as it helps pilots to prepare better for carrying out actual operations.
"The training missions help us to get oriented and help us to get ready for any contingency and live up to our motto 'Touch the Sky with Glory'.
On the speciality of flying fighter jets in the hilly densely forested terrain in the country's eastern parts, Ms Bajpai said it was a challenge due to the unpredictable nature of weather and terrain here.
"Extensive training and practice in this region help us to prepare for any challenge that may come our way," he said.
In the last two years, India has been engaged in a military stand-off with China along the northern borders in Ladakh due to which forces are at a heightened alert all along the Line of Actual Control.
The Air Force has been flying extensively in the sector to keep the adversary in check and the mainstay of the force in the region has been the Su-30 MKI fighter along with the one squadron of the Rafale jets in Hashimara, West Bengal. 
The Su-30s have replaced the MiG-21s and the other variety of aircraft that were operating in the northeast and fly extensively near the LAC from their bases in the northeast.

Six Indian Air Force officers have been charged with murder after a trainee cadet, against whom a court of inquiry was initiated, was found hanging, a police officer said.
According to police, Ankit Jha (27) was found hanging in one of the rooms of Air Force Technical College (AFTC).
Police suspected that the death happened four or five days ago.
Based on his brother Aman Jha's complaint, the police registered a case against six police officers at Gangammana Gudi police station on Saturday.
Aman has also alleged in his complaint that attempts were made to tamper with the evidence as people from the AFTC were present around 4.30 am on Saturday at the police station with a piece of evidence he was also looking for.
He even wondered how the people from AFTC knew beforehand about his presence in the police station in the early hours and reached there.
"The reason behind the death is yet to be ascertained. Our investigations are on. Jha was a trainee cadet and he was found hanging in one of the rooms of AFTC," a senior police officer told PTI.
"The officers against whom the complaint was lodged have not been arrested but the Indian Air Force has assured us all assistance," the officer said.
He added that they are waiting for the post-mortem report to carry forward the investigation.

The Indian Air Force is set to retire its Srinagar-based MiG-21 squadron 'Sword Arms' that Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was a part of when he had downed an F-16 combat aircraft of Pakistan a day after the Balakot strike in February 2019, sources said on Monday.
'Sword Arms' is one of its four remaining squadrons of ageing MiG-21 fighter jets.
The No. 51 Squadron is to be retired by the end of September, "as per the plan", the defence sources said.
The remaining three squadrons of MiG-21 will be phased out by 2025, they said.
IAF fighter jets had bombed a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist training camp in Balakot on February 26, 2019, nearly two weeks after the Pulwama terror attack. Pakistan had retaliated on February 27 by attempting to target Indian military installations.
Varthaman (now Group Captain) had taken to the skies to thwart an aerial attack launched by adversaries and engaged in a dogfight with Pakistani jets during aerial combat.
Before his MiG-21 Bison jet was shot down, Varthaman had downed the F-16 fighter of Pakistan. He was conferred the Vir Chakra, India's third-highest wartime gallantry medal, on the Independence Day in 2019.
The MiG-21 jets were inducted into IAF over four decades ago and many of these planes were lost in crashes.
Though the Soviet-era Russian fighter jets have also been in news in the last several years for multiple crashes causing death of pilots, the sources said "when an IAF aircraft is air-borne, it means it is fully serviceable".
"Ageing is a factor, but we read reports that even a modern aircraft can crash. A crash can happen due to multiple factors, including weather," a source said.
And, the retiring Srinagar-based No. 51 squadron, also known as 'Sword Arms', is "happening as per the plan", he said, adding that the old fleet were in operation also as new ones were awaited.
The No. 51 Squadron or 'Sword Arms' is one of the decorated squadrons of the IAF, and it participated during Op Safed Sagar (Kargil conflict) in 1999.
"It was conferred with one Vayu Sena Medal and three Mention-in-Dispatches for its effective contribution. During Operation Parakram, the Squadron was tasked with the Air Defence Of Kashmir Valley," according to Bharat Rakshak website.
It was raised at Chandigarh in 1985. The crest of the squadron portrays a pair of muscular arms firmly clasping a sword, depicting the motto "Vijaya Prakrama" which means 'Valour for Victory', it said.
For its meritorious and glorious service to the nation, since its inception, the squadron was awarded the President's Standards in 2018, the website says.

Pakistan has rejected India's action over the March 9 accidental firing of a supersonic missile that landed in its territory and demanded a joint probe.
The services of three officers of the Indian Air Force were terminated on August 23 after a Court of Inquiry (CoI) found that deviation from the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by them led to the accidental firing of the missile.
The Foreign Office in a late Wednesday night statement said Pakistan has seen India's announcement of the findings of an internal CoI regarding the "incident of firing of a rogue supersonic missile" into its territory and the decision to terminate the services of three IAF officers reportedly found responsible for the reckless incident.
"Pakistan categorically rejects India's purported closure of the highly irresponsible incident and reiterates its demand for a joint probe," it said.

The services of three officers of the Indian Air Force were terminated on August 23 after a Court of Inquiry (CoI) found that deviation from the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by them led to the accidental firing of the missile.

Pakistan has rejected India's action over the March 9 accidental firing of a supersonic missile that landed in its territory and demanded a joint probe.
The services of three officers of the Indian Air Force were terminated on August 23 after a Court of Inquiry (CoI) found that deviation from the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by them led to the accidental firing of the missile.
The Foreign Office in a late Wednesday night statement said Pakistan has seen India's announcement of the findings of an internal CoI regarding the "incident of firing of a rogue supersonic missile" into its territory and the decision to terminate the services of three IAF officers reportedly found responsible for the reckless incident.
"Pakistan categorically rejects India's purported closure of the highly irresponsible incident and reiterates its demand for a joint probe," it said. 
"As expected, the measures taken by India in the aftermath of the incident and the subsequent findings and punishments handed by the so-called internal Court of Inquiry are totally unsatisfactory, deficient and inadequate." It alleged that India has not only failed to respond to Pakistan's demand for a joint inquiry but has also evaded the questions raised by Pakistan regarding the command and control system in place in India, the safety and security protocols and the "reason for India's delayed admission of the missile launch".
It said systemic loopholes and technical lapses of serious nature in handling of strategic weapons "cannot be covered up beneath the veneer of individual human error".
"If indeed India has nothing to hide, it must accept Pakistan's demand for a joint probe in the spirit of transparency," it demanded.
It further said the "imprudent Indian action" of March 9 had "jeopardized" the peace and security environment of the entire region while "Pakistan showed exemplary restraint" which was a testament of its systemic maturity and abiding commitment to peace as a responsible nuclear state.
Pakistan reiterated its demand that the Indian government must immediately provide specific responses to the queries raised by Islamabad after the incident and accedes to its call for a joint probe.

Father-daughter duo Flying Officer Ananya & Air Commodore Sanjay Sharma were etched onto the pages of history on May 30. They became the first such pair to fly in the same formation in the history of the Indian Air Force, according to a press release by the IAF. 
"There has not been any previous instance in the IAF where a father and his daughter were part of the same fighter formation for a mission. It was the mission where Air Cmde Sanjay and Fg Offr Ananya were more than just father and daughter. They were comrades, who had full faith in each other as fellow wingmen would," the IAF said in the release.
Ananya and Sanjay Sharma flew the Hawk-132 aircrafts at IAF station Bidar where she is currently undergoing training before she graduates onto superior fighter aircrafts.
Photos of the duo donning their uniforms have taken the internet by storm. Social media users have called the father-daughter pair 'an inspiration'. 
Air Marshal (Retd) PK Roy hailed the achievement and tweeted, "Hope to see many more in future."
"Excellent...what a proud moment for both father and daughter," said a Twitter user.
While Air Commodore Sharma started his career in 1989 his daughter Flying Officer Ananya Sharma was commissioned into the Air Force in 2021. In 2016, the Indian Air Force started accepting female pilots into its fighter squadron.

An Indian Air Force was arrested for allegedly leaking classified and sensitive information about defence installations and personnel to a Pakistan-based "agent", police said on Thursday and claim he was "honey-trapped".
The accused has been identified as 32-year-old Devender Narayan Sharma, who was working as an administrative assistant (GD) at the Indian Air Force (IAF) Record Office at Subroto Park in New Delhi, they said.
During investigation, it was found that Sharma was allegedly "honey-trapped" by a Pakistan-based woman with whom he shared sensitive documents related to personnel, national security and defence, police said.
On May 6, the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested the sergeant for allegedly leaking the sensitive information through WhatsApp to the "agent of adversary country" after deceitfully obtaining information and documents from computers and other files, according to police.
According to police, Sharma had also received money from the agent for the leaked information.
On the basis of a complaint received by the Indian Air Force, a case under the Official Secrets Act was registered and the sergeant was arrested on May 6 and dismissed from service, they said.
During investigation, incriminating evidence such as electronic gadgets and documents were seized, they said, adding further probe is on in the matter.
Last year in July, two people, including an army man, were arrested under the Official Secrets Act for allegedly providing classified documents to Pakistan spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The development had come after a 34-year-old vegetable supplier at the Pokhran Army base camp was held for allegedly getting sensitive documents from an army man for money and providing them to the ISI.

It has deployed 28 women officers on board around 15 frontline warships.

Of the 14 people travelling in the ill-fated military chopper,  Indian Air Force’s Group Captain Varun Singh, was the sole survivor but has been admitted to a Military Hospital in Tamil Nadu’s Wellington.
The IAF in. a statement said Group Captain Varun Singh was evacuated from the site of crash in Coonoor. Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 other armed forces personnel were among the dead in the crash.
Taking to Twitter, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed condolences to those who died in the crash and prayed for the speedy recovery of Group Captain Varun Singh.
Group Captain Varun Singh was awarded Shaurya Chakra on this year’s Independence Day for saving his LCA Tejas fighter aircraft during an aerial emergency in 2020.
According to a Defence Ministry statement, Wing Commander Varun Singh, was on October 12, 2020, flying a system check sortie when the cockpit pressurisation failed at high altitude. He correctly identified the failure and initiated a descent to lower altitude for landing. The statement had noted that the pilot went beyond the call of duty and landed the aircraft taking calculated risks. This allowed an accurate analysis of the fault on the indigenously designed fighter and further institution of preventive measures against recurrence.

As many as 13 of the 14 occupants of the Indian Air Force helicopter, which had Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat among others onboard, died in the tragic crash on Wednesday, a top district official said.

The Indian Air Force on Wednesday&nbsp;evening confirmed that India&rsquo;s first Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, and his wife Madhulika Rawat were among the 13 people killed in the chopper crash in Tamil Nadu&rsquo;s Coonoor.
The IAF said Group Captain Varun Singh is the lone survivor among the 14 occupants and is currently under treatment at Military Hospital in Wellington.
General Rawat was on a visit to Defence Services Staff College &nbsp;in the&nbsp;Nilgiri Hills to address the faculty and student officers of the Staff Course.
Around noon, an IAF Mi 17 V5 helicopter with a crew of 4 members carrying General Rawat&nbsp;and 9 other passengers met with a tragic accident near Coonoor.
The helicopter&nbsp;was on its way from Sulur in Coimbatore&nbsp;and was heading to Wellington,&nbsp;where Chief of Army Staff MM Naravane&nbsp;was also slated to participate in the event.
The chopper crashed in the forest area, reportedly due to poor visibility following heavy fog. The&nbsp;IAF said a Court of Inquiry has been ordered into the accident. The accident site was a scene of despair with trees being reduced to broken pieces under the impact of the crash, flames from the chopper engulfing the wooden logs resulting in billowing smoke and personnel scurrying to douse the fire,
The mangled and burnt remains of the ill-fated IAF chopper were strewn along the site, even as rescue services personnel were seen carrying bodies in stretchers to be transported through waiting ambulances.

Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Kanpur has become a hotspot for the mosquito-borne disease Zika and a massive vector control drive has also been launched by the local authorities to curb the spread.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;10 more people, have&nbsp;tested&nbsp;positive for the Zika virus in Kanpur, taking the&nbsp;tally&nbsp;of such cases&nbsp;to 89 so far.&nbsp;Of the total infected people, 12 are Indian Air Force personnel.&nbsp;&nbsp;Out of the 89 infected people, 55 are men and 34 are women.&nbsp;Health teams have collected samples of 525 people who were in close contact with the infected people and living in the radius of 3 km of the IAF station hangars for testing.&nbsp;The first case of the virus was reported in the Kanpur city on October 23 when a warrant officer of the IAF tested positive for the infection.&nbsp;
