<h2>The Indian team left for China only on Sunday and had no time to practice in Hangzhou for their clash against the hosts.</h2>

Set to play their opening match without any training session and proper rest after the last-minute announcement of the squad, India will be the clear underdogs against formidable China in their Asian Games group game here on Tuesday.
India were able to stitch a rag-tag final squad only on Friday and the team left for China on Sunday, leaving no time for the players to even have a training session together.
Moreover, two players -- defenders Konsam Chinglensana Singh and Lalchungnunga -- out of the 22 players picked will join later as their visas were not ready. The Indian contingent's chef de mission Bhupinder Singh Bajwa has, however, said that the duo will get their 'express visas' in a day or two and they will join the team.
In any case, the duo will not be available for the Group A match against China on Tuesday and that will be a blow for India. Also, head coach Igor Stimac said on Sunday that senior defender Sandesh Jhingan and talismanic striker Sunil Chhetri will not play the opening match to save them for the later two matches.
Chhetri started training just a couple of weeks ago as he needed time with his family after becoming a father recently.
Stimac's move is understandable as India have more chance to win against Bangladesh (September 21) and Myanmar (September 24) than against China, and considering that the team will take on the hosts without proper rest and training. The head coach was forced to have strategy sessions inside the aircraft and at the airport.
It will have to be seen whether Stimac sticks to what he had said or field Jhingan as defenders Chinglensana and Lalchungnunga will not be available for Tuesday's match. Already, he is facing the problem of full-backs and central midfielders as he lamented on Sunday.
Even otherwise, China are a much stronger side than India at the continental stage, and they will also have the advantage of playing in familiar surroundings at the Huanglong Sports Center Stadium. For India, on the other hand, their first outdoor activity could be the match.
The last time the two countries met in the Asian Games was in the 2002 edition in Busan, Korea, where India lost 0-2. The then Indian team had the likes of Bhaichung Bhutia, Shanmugam Venkatesh, Jo Paul Ancheri, Renedy Singh and current assistant coach Mahesh Gawli.
Stimac was candid enough to concede that it would be a tough task for his side against China, more so due to the unprecedented controversy surrounding the picking of the team, that too after getting exemption from eligibility criteria to take part in the Games.
"They have been preparing this team for a long time. Since March this year, they've played four tough and quality games against strong opponents, losing three and winning one," the Croatian said.
"So, it will be tough because they (China) have invested a lot in this team, especially because they are hosting the Asian Games." Talking about the players of the opposition team, Stimac said, "Mostly they (China) prefer a 4-4-2 system, which might change to a 3-4-3 occasionally. They have three senior players who are really important to them.
"One striker looks like a tower, scoring a lot of goals in the Chinese Super League. There is also an attacking midfielder, a senior player of great experience." On the strategy that he may be employing, Stimac said, "We have to be very clever and see whether we need to invest all our energy (against China) or skip it to keep for the next two matches and try to make it to the knock-out rounds.
"No tournament is a formality for me, neither the players. There is a possibility to qualify from the group, but to do that, some luck needs to be on our side also, and the goal is for the boys to give their best performances of their lives." The top two teams from the six groups will make it to the round of 16, with four best-ranked third-placed sides also qualifying.
Thirteen players out of the initial 22 were not released by their respective Indian Super League clubs, including Jhingan and first-choice goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. A 17-member team with Chhetri as the only notable face was named initially.
On Friday, the AIFF announced a revised squad of 22 after hectic parleys with Jhingan in it, besides two more senior players in Chinglensana and Lalchungnunga.

The Indian Express report quotes Stimac, who mentioned that the astrologer was recommended to him, and he agreed to consult the astrologer after being convinced by others to assess the potential impact on sports.
Kushal Das, then the secretary-general of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), confirmed that he introduced Stimac to the astrologer, Bhupesh Sharma. Das emphasised the importance of India's qualification for the Asian Cup during a challenging period.
Reportedly, the AIFF paid astrologer Sharma Rs 12-15 lakh for two months of services, a sum justified by India's successful qualification for the Asian Cup, according to Das. India played four matches during this period, including a friendly against Jordan and three Asian Cup qualifiers against Cambodia, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong. Despite losing the friendly match against Jordan 2-0 in May, India secured victory in all three Asian Cup qualifiers the following month, securing their place in the 2023 Asian Cup.
Throughout this period, Stimac and astrologer Sharma exchanged nearly 100 messages, indicating their communication before each match. The report suggests that Stimac consulted Sharma on potential team selections and injury updates and incorporated his insights into the final playing squad.&nbsp; According to the report, two established players did not make the starting XI against Afghanistan on June 11 due to unfavorable astrological conditions.

IBSA World Championship is an international multi-sport event, that occurs every four years, organised by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA).
The Indian women's blind football team has qualified for the games after a 10-year-long effort put in by the Indian Blind Football Federation (IBFF).

Mumbai City FC: What Does the CFG Deal Mean For Indian Football?

Football fans in India have long wondered about the possibility of having the quality and amazement of European Leagues. Even though the destination seems far off, the journey has begun. Manchester City FC owners, City Football Group, has recently agreed to acquire 65% stake in Mumbai City FC of the Indian Super League making it their eighth club internationally.
What does the deal mean for Mumbai City and what does it mean for Indian Football?

 The completion of the investment remains subject to the approval of certain football bodies but as per the deal, the remaining 35% shares will be held jointly by Ranbir Kapoor and Bimal Parekh. CFG is the world&rsquo;s leading private owner and operator of football clubs with Manchester City being the most popular among its&nbsp; roster and the reigning champions of the Premier League.
 The news of the acquisition was revealed in front of Mumbai City&rsquo;s fans by CFG CEO Ferran Soriano with the chairperson of FSDL Nita Ambani. He said-
 &ldquo;We have been looking at this for years. I came myself and watched many games and we are now convinced of the bright future of football in India. I am sure 10 years from now, we will be here and we will be talking about a lot of people playing good football for India,&rdquo;&nbsp;
 Nita Ambani welcoming the CFG&rsquo;s move to India spoke about the association-
 "Today we welcome a global football powerhouse to India, to Indian Super League and Indian football. I am delighted and proud to announce that the City Football Group has acquired a majority stake in Mumbai City FC.I am sure Mumbai City FC and Indian Football will benefit from this historic partnership,"
Although, the entry of European Clubs into Indian clubs is not new; Atletico Madrid owned ATK partly while Fiorentina held 15% stake in the now obsolete FC Pune city, this is the first time a big club holder will hold the majority stake in an Indian club.
The numbers and the brand name is, of course, a big selling point. The fans of Mumbai City and Indian football are thrilled to hear this news. Social media platforms buzzed with excitement upon hearing this announcement.&nbsp;
Despite the excitement and the euphoria what needs to be focussed upon is what does this deal mean for Indian Football in the near and far future?
Speaking on this Amrinder Singh, Mumbai City&rsquo;s Goalkeeper was hopeful when he said-
 &ldquo;I feel this is a momentous deal. This is indeed a great moment for football in India and all the young players who are emerging to play the sport. We have seen in the last four or five years how rapid the progress has been in Indian football after the emergence of the ISL. I believe City Football Group coming to India can only take football forward in our country,&rdquo;
Soriano also mentioned that the priority is to find kids early. Citing the example of their New York City Club, he said that they are not here to import anything. The main aim is to tap into Indian football by providing the expertise and the experience they bring with them.&nbsp;
That can translate into Mumbai City and India getting better infrastructure and facilities to train and play in. It will also be a great learning experience for Indian Football bodies on how to maximise the potential of local talent. For the AIFF this could be a great opportunity to tie hands with one of the best in the world to uplift the level of football in India.
CFG has some of the best assessors and coaches of the game. Their roster contains some of the biggest players and experts of the game such as Pep Guardiola. Their experience, strategy and tactics is a great pool to tap into. This association could lead to better training and understanding of the sport. Indian players might get the chance to go overseas and train with the other clubs of CFG which will be a great boost to Indian Football.
Financially, it opens up the door for bigger investors to come in given they follow suit of CFG. Such an investment is bound to bring more eyeballs to Indian Super League not just in India but also worldwide.
If the CFG delivers what they have promised, this could be huge for Indian Football. Although, there is always a fear among domestic players and fans alike of monopoly by an international investor which might hold back the progress of the local talent although it may bring in more money. However, if we look at their other clubs, the focus seems to be on youth development, which is what India needs.
In summary, this might focus the attention of Indian masses on a sport that is missing from the spotlight. With the local talent and international standard training, this can help bring change from the policy side inspiring local and national government bodies to direct their attention to football.
What the Indian media, fans and the athletes need to take away from this deal is that Indian Football is starting to get noticed in the international eyes. It also proves that a venture like ISL has been pretty successful This move if used wisely, could potentially push us higher in the other international competitions. This deal is a recognition of the Indian potential for better footballers and a better footballing nation altogether.
