Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) reached a significant milestone in its journey towards operational readiness with the successful completion of its first flight validation test, an essential step ahead of its anticipated commercial launch in April 2025. On a momentous Monday, an IndiGo aircraft, manned by a full crew and accompanied by experts from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), performed the pivotal trial, marking a crucial advance in the airport's development strategy.
The trial was not just a symbolic gesture but a thorough technical assessment, encompassing various aspects of aviation operations. The centerpiece of the exercise involved takeoff and landing maneuvers on the newly constructed runway. The importance of such validation flights&mdash;or proving flights&mdash;cannot be overstated. They are integral to the certification lattice, serving as a means to ensure compliance with stringent safety, operational, and regulatory standards.
During these flights, the airport's ability to handle real-world scenarios is put to the test, assessing whether its infrastructure, procedures, and systems align seamlessly with the guidelines laid down by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). These simulations play a critical role in ascertaining the preparedness for handling commercial flights and ensuring passenger safety and operational efficiency.
Following the meticulous collection of data during the exercise, the subsequent review by the DGCA will determine the way forward. Approved data will pave the way for the airport authorities to apply for an aerodrome license, an indispensable step before the airport can fully commence operations and serve as a lynchpin in India's aviation sector.
The validation phase is programmed to run between November 30 and December 15, reflecting a strategically planned schedule moving forward. This follows the airport's achievement in October when critical milestones were accomplished with the successful calibration of its Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) systems. These sophisticated systems are crucial for ensuring aircraft can land safely, especially under challenging conditions, underscoring the airport's commitment to safety and technological excellence.
As NIAL progresses, officials reported that the project&rsquo;s first phase has achieved 85% completion. The impressive 3.9 km runway is already operational, signaling readiness to accommodate various aircraft types. Meanwhile, the terminal building is fast approaching the final stages of construction. This structure is envisaged to offer an array of world-class amenities, promising a seamless experience for travelers and setting new benchmarks in airport infrastructure.

Owing to the bad weather conditions, Indigo cancelled a Delhi-Deoghar flight. As the flight was cancelled, several enraged customers rallied inside the Delhi airport and started raising slogans against IndiGo. This incident took place on January 30.&nbsp;
The airlines announced that the bad weather in Jharkhand was the reason for the cancellation. Soon after that, a video of the incident is doing rounds on the internet.&nbsp;
The airline stated, "Indigo flight 6E 2198 from Delhi to Deogarh was cancelled on Jan 30 and Jan 31, 2024, due to a sudden drop in weather conditions around the airport in Deogarh. Passengers were served with refreshments and options to avail a full refund, alternate sectors or rescheduling."
"We regret the inconvenience caused due to factors beyond the airline&rsquo;s control," it added.

IndiGo is taking steps to put the passenger who hit a pilot on its 'no-fly list'. The man has been arrested.

IndiGo on Monday said a passenger assaulted its first officer while he was making a flight delay announcement onboard a Goa-bound aircraft at the Delhi airport.
A purported video clipping of the incident, which took place on Sunday, has surfaced on social media.
"On January 14, 2024, during the announcement of a flight delay by the first officer of flight 6E2175, a passenger assaulted the first officer," the airline said in a statement.
An airline official said the incident took place onboard the Delhi-Goa flight.
As per protocol, IndiGo said the passenger was declared unruly and handed over to the local law enforcement agencies for further action.
According to the airline, the incident is being referred to the independent internal committee for appropriate action and inclusion of the passenger on the 'no-fly list' as laid down in regulatory guidelines.
A complaint has been filed with the Delhi police.

"As ATF prices are dynamic, we will continue to adjust our fares and components thereof, to respond to any change in prices or market conditions," IndiGo said in a statement.
Fuel cost accounts for a significant chunk of a carrier's operational costs.
The fuel charge was applicable on the airline's domestic and international routes. IndiGo said the fuel charge had been introduced in October 2023, following a surge in ATF prices.&nbsp; ATF price cut by 4% Jet fuel or ATF price on Jan 1st was cut by 4 per cent, the third straight monthly reduction, and commercial cooking gas (LPG) rates were marginally lowered by Rs 1.50 per 19-kg cylinder in line with international benchmarks.

Patnaik said that when he went to his seat he saw that the cushion was missing. He had been allotted a window seat.&nbsp; He shared a post on X in which he said, &nbsp;'Today&rsquo;s status &hellip; Best way to increase profit... Pathetic.'
As the social media users came across this post, they joked by saying, 'so that the passenger does not fall asleep in the flight.' Others reacted by saying, 'what a shameful service by Indigo airlines.'
Indigo also replied to the post of Subrat Patnaik and said, "Hi, that's certainly not good to see. At times, the seat cushion gets adrift from its Velcro. India's largest airline Indigo is planning to introduce premium class with roomier seats and perks like hot food to attract Business flyers, reported The Economic Times. As per the report, the airline is also planning for a loyalty programme to compete with its rival Air India to capture international routes.
<h3>Dual class configuration in Indigo</h3>
Indigo is reportedly planning to ditch its one-size-fits-all model and have its Airbus A321 aircraft in a dual class configuration. The Economc Times report quoted a person aware of the development and said that Cabins in 35 aircraft are likely to be fitted with a premium cabin which will have four rows of seats with two on each side.
&ldquo;Four rows of extra legroom seating will be installed in those aircraft, providing 36 inches of legroom for guests to stretch out or work comfortably," the person told Economic Times.
<h3>Premium Cost</h3>
Indigo's legroom or seat pitch currently amounts to an average of 30 inches on its Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft with three on each side. The airline is yet to decide the cost of premium. However, The Economic Times report has mentioned that people who pay more will be prioritised during boarding, complimentary in-flight food and greater flexibility to make changes to their itinerary.

Indigo has grabbed 60% of the market share aided by its no-frills model to pack more passengers in dense cabins and charging extra for food, priority boarding and seat allocation.&nbsp;
<h3>Indigo's International dream</h3>
The airline is also aiming to spread its wing internationally. As per The Economic Times, IndiGo&rsquo;s leadership is now convinced that with a firm leadership position in India&rsquo;s domestic market, the airline should now use this position to become a leader in international market.
Indigo's CEO Pieter Elbers has initiated a rapid foray on international routes since 2021. The airline is also preparing to fly longer routes by deploying Airbus A321 XLR aircraft which will start joining the fleet from 2025. This will be used in European markets where, the flying time is over seven hours.
The report mentions that those planes will also come with business class seats and have more leg space in economy with 190 seats.

"The decision follows the significant increase in ATF prices, which have surged in the last three months with consecutive price hikes every month. ATF accounts for a substantial portion of an airline's operating expenses, necessitating fare adjustment to address such a cost surge," said the airline in its statement.
<h3>Cost split-up</h3>
<ul>
<li>For distance covering upto 500 KM the passenger will be charged Rs 300 extra. The cost will go up as the distance increases.</li>
<li>Distance between 501-1000 KM would attract Rs 400 extra</li>
<li>Distance between 1001-1500 KM would cost an additional Rs 550</li>
<li>Distance between 2501 to 3500 km will attract a fuel charge of Rs 800</li>
<li>Over 3501km, fuel charge will be Rs 1000</li>
</ul>

Earlier this month, for the third straight time the central government had increased the Jet fuel prices. As per price notification of state owned fuel retailers the ATF prices were hiked by 8.5% in August and 1.65% in July.
The airlines in 2018 had imposed fuel surcharge which was gradually removed after the prices were reduced.

Agartala police officer Abhijit Mandal said that the man was identified as Biswajit Debnath, and will be produced before a court on Friday, news agency PTI reported.
The man tried to open the emergency door around 1 PM on Thursday when the plane was flying 15 miles from the runway of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, an official had said.

The Board of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, which operates Indigo has approved the creation of a Venture Capital Arm that will invest in aviation startups. The company focusses on investing in early-stage companies operating in aviation, consumer-focused allied sectors such as travel &amp; lifestyle, hospitality and transportation.
In a regulatory filing, the company has said that the board has approved Rs 30 crore as an initial investment for the wing which will be set up in the Special Economic Zone at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City.&nbsp;

Gaurav Negi the airline's chief financial officer had announced the &nbsp;creation of the arm while addressing a post-earnings conference call on August 2. He had mentioned that Indigo has applied for regulatory approval to start a venture capital arm of IndiGo to invest in travel-related businesses.
"We are looking to start a venture capital firm for investments into startups operating in aviation, consumer and allied sectors such as travel &amp; lifestyle, hospitality, and transportation," Negi had said.
