Addressing party workers in Raebareli, Priyanka Gandhi on Tuesday invoked grandmother Indira's strategy to defend Rahul's shift from Amethi to Raebareli.

Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru could never have imagined that a government would be installed in the country that would call them "deshdrohi (traitors)", Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Monday.
She also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his language on the campaign trail.
Addressing party workers in the Rae Bareli constituency, the Congress general secretary said, "Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru undertook movements so that the people's rights could be strengthened. They could never have imagined that a government would come that would call them traitors and say (to people) 'if you give us 400 seats, we will change the Constitution'." "They could not even have imagined that the government itself would try to weaken our people," she said.
Priyanka Gandhi also referred to farmers' protests during the British Raj.
She said, "The farmers' protests during the time of Motilal Nehru and Jawaharlal Nehru -- the first time when Motilal Nehru and Jawaharlal Nehru were arrested, it was in Rae Bareli when they had come to participate." "Since then, during all the fights and elections in Rae Bareli, there was democracy and truth on one side while on the other side it was terror and a (kind of) politics that never considered the people 'sarvopari (above everything)'. In this fight, you always ensured victory for truth and the principles of democracy," Priyanka Gandhi said.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is contesting the elections from Rae Bareli, a constituency held by his mother Sonia Gandhi for the last two decades.
Priyanka Gandhi also claimed that Indira Gandhi was not angry when she lost the elections from Rae Bareli.
"She learnt from that defeat &hellip; She deliberated, took another path, and won the next elections," she said.
During her speech, the Congress leader also tried to strike a chord with the audience.
"This is the soil with which the blood of my family is mixed. This is the sacred land for which your ancestors sacrificed their lives. Today, we are fighting for the self-respect of the people and their rights. We will have to fight this battle with strength. This is the most pious soil of the country and we are fighting for everything that our ancestors fought for," she said.
Priyanka Gandhi also credited the Congress' Amethi candidate Kishori Lal Sharma for teaching her how to conduct elections.
"Kishori Lal Sharma ji, our candidate from Amethi, is present on the stage. I have learnt how to conduct elections from Kishori Lal Sharma ji," she said.
"This time, I told him 'I will make you contest the elections and you will win'. That is why I have come here, to make my elder brother (Rahul Gandhi) and Kishori Lal ji contest the elections." Rae Bareli and Amethi go to the polls on May 20.&nbsp;

As former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger passed away, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Thursday recalled that in 1971 then US President Richard Nixon and Kissinger created huge headaches for India but then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her close aide P N Haksar proved &ldquo;more than a match for them&rdquo;.
Kissinger, who dominated foreign policy as the United States extricated itself from Vietnam, died Wednesday. He was 100.
In a post on X, Ramesh said, &ldquo;Henry Kissinger has passed away. He was as immensely consequential as he was hugely controversial.&rdquo; In his long and eventful life he has been both celebrated and condemned, Ramesh noted. &nbsp;&ldquo;But there can be no doubt about his sheer intellectual brilliance and awesome charisma,&rdquo; he said.
For the last three decades, he positioned himself as a great friend and supporter of India and indeed he was, Ramesh said.
&ldquo;But this was not always so and in 1971 especially, President Nixon and he created huge headaches for India and thought they had us cornered. However, Indira Gandhi and P N Haksar proved more than a match for them,&rdquo; the former Union minister said.
&ldquo;I have described the Kissinger-Haksar and Nixon-Indira Gandhi encounters with archival detail in my book 'Intertwined Lives: PN Haksar &amp; Indira Gandhi',&rdquo; Ramesh said.
He also pointed out that Gary Bass in his book 'The Blood Telegram: Nixon, Kissinger and a Forgotten Genocide' indicts Kissinger severely for his role in the events of 1971 leading up to the creation of Bangladesh.

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) filed police complaints against actress Kangana Ranaut on Saturday for allegedly making seditious and derogatory remarks on the social media.
IYC national secretary Amreesh Ranjan Pandey and Ambuj Dixit, co-coordinator of the outfit's legal cell, filed a complaint against the actress at the Parliament Street Police Station here.
Meanwhile, the DSGMC took strong exception to the wording used by the actress in her Instagram story and also filed a police complaint, calling it "disrespectful, contemptuous and insulting".
The complaint letter was marked to an additional commissioner of police in Mumbai and the cyber cell of the Delhi Police located at the Mandir Marg police station here.
The DSGMC, in its complaint, alleged that through her post, Ranaut has "intentionally" and "deliberately" portrayed the farmers' protest as "Khalistani movements".
"...and further dubbed the Sikh community as Khalistani terrorists and recalling the massacre and genocide happened during 1984 and earlier as planned and calculated move on part of (former prime minister) Smt. Indira Gandhi," it alleged.
The DSGMC sought "strict legal action" against the actress from the authorities after the registration of an FIR against her.
"It is submitted that the post is deliberately prepared and shared with criminal intention to hurt the feelings of the Sikh community," it alleged.
DSGMC president and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa slammed the actress over her alleged derogatory remarks targeting Sikhs and said the government should take action against her.
"She should either be put in mental hospital or in jail. We demand strict action from govt for her hateful content on Instagram," Sirsa said in a tweet.
The youth wing of the Congress, in its complaint, alleged that following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement on Friday that the Centre will repeal three contentious farm laws, Ranaut posted Instagram stories, saying India is a "jihadist nation" and called for dictatorship in the country.
"Kangana Ranaut is a renowned actress and has a huge fan following of more than 7.8 million (78 lakh) people on Instagram. Therefore, her intentional, irresponsible and seditious posts have the ability to excite hatred, contempt and disaffection towards the Republic of India," the complaint said.
The complaint has been filed seeking the registration of an FIR against the actress under sections 124A (sedition), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Pandey said.

In an Instagram story, Ranaut said: "Khalistani terrorists may be arm twisting the government today. But let's not forget one woman. The only woman prime minister crushed them under her shoe and no matter how much suffering she caused to this nation she crushed them like mosquitoes at the cost of her own life." This was followed by another story with a picture of Indira Gandhi that said: "With the rise of Khalistani movement her story is more relevant than ever very soon bringing to you #Emergency".
This was also a vague reference to a movie she would be working on called "Emergency&rdquo;.
Ranaut, who has been outspoken about her support for the ruling BJP government, posted these just a day after the three controversial farm laws were cancelled after 14 months of gruelling protests by farmers.

IYC national secretary Amreesh Ranjan Pandey and Ambuj Dixit, co-coordinator of the outfit's legal cell, filed a complaint against the actress at the Parliament Street Police Station here.
Meanwhile, the DSGMC took strong exception to the wording used by the actress in her Instagram story and also filed a police complaint, calling it "disrespectful, contemptuous and insulting".

The complaint letter was marked to an additional commissioner of police in Mumbai and the cyber cell of the Delhi Police located at the Mandir Marg police station here.
The DSGMC, in its complaint, alleged that through her post, Ranaut has "intentionally" and "deliberately" portrayed the farmers' protest as "Khalistani movements".
"...and further dubbed the Sikh community as Khalistani terrorists and recalling the massacre and genocide happened during 1984 and earlier as planned and calculated move on part of (former prime minister) Smt. Indira Gandhi," it alleged.
The DSGMC sought "strict legal action" against the actress from the authorities after the registration of an FIR against her.
"It is submitted that the post is deliberately prepared and shared with criminal intention to hurt the feelings of the Sikh community," it alleged.
DSGMC president and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa slammed the actress over her alleged derogatory remarks targeting Sikhs and said the government should take action against her.
"She should either be put in mental hospital or in jail. We demand strict action from govt for her hateful content on Instagram," Sirsa said in a tweet.
The youth wing of the Congress, in its complaint, alleged that following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement on Friday that the Centre will repeal three contentious farm laws, Ranaut posted Instagram stories, saying India is a "jihadist nation" and called for dictatorship in the country.
"Kangana Ranaut is a renowned actress and has a huge fan following of more than 7.8 million (78 lakh) people on Instagram. Therefore, her intentional, irresponsible and seditious posts have the ability to excite hatred, contempt and disaffection towards the Republic of India," the complaint said.
The complaint has been filed seeking the registration of an FIR against the actress under sections 124A (sedition), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Pandey said.
