The inflow into Systematic Investment Plans (SIP) has reached an all-time high, crossing Rs 19,000 crore for the first time in February. As per the latest data, the SIP investment stood at Rs 19,187 crore which is a significant rise from the previous month's Rs 18,838 crore.
<h3>SIP Investment</h3>
According to the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), the SIP assets under management (AUM) for February 2024 stood at Rs 10.52 lakh crore. The number of new SIP accounts also increased to 8.20 crore from 7.91 crore in January 2024.
CNBC-TV18 quoted financial experts and said that the surge in SIP investments is due to various factors like increased awareness about long-term wealth creation, the ease of investing through SIPs, and the market's overall positive sentiment.
&ldquo;There is a surge in SIP accounts, totalling 8.20 crore with 49.79 lakh new SIP registrations. This underscores investors' unwavering commitment to disciplined wealth accumulation. The industry's net AUM has also reached Rs 54,54,214.13 crore in February", said Venkat Chalasani, Chief Executive, AMFI.
<h3>Inflow into Equity Mutual Fund</h3>
The funds flow into equity mutual fund also saw a 23% to Rs 26,865.78 crore in February. With this the inflow into equity mutual funds have remained positive for the 36th straight month since March 2021.&nbsp;

The Association of Mutual Funds of India also revealed that both small cap and midcap funds saw robust inflows in February even after Sebi raised concerns over froth in the segments.
As per AMFI, inflows into into midcap funds dipped 12% but remained healthy at Rs 1,808 crore, while net investments into smallcap funds dipped 10% but came in at Rs 2,922 crore last month.
<h3>Inflow to equity asset and debt class</h3>
The Sectoral/Thematic Funds category saw the highest inflows of Rs 11,262.70 crore among the equity asset class. The five new schemes that were launched during the month cumulatively garnered Rs 7,178 crore during their NFO period.&nbsp;
"While gross purchases in the smallcap category continued to be robust over the month, the redemptions in the category were the third largest among the equity categories possibly due to investors opting to book profits on the back of a sharp uptick in the performance of this category," Melvyn Santarita, Analyst, Morningstar Investment Research India told Moneycontrol.
Likewise the largecap category also saw its third highest flows in 20 months with net inflows of Rs 921 crore in February 2024.&nbsp;
In the fixed income segment, debt funds saw net inflows of Rs 63,809 crore in February against Rs 76,469 crore net investments in January. The inflow into debt was positive largely due to Rs 83,642 crore investments into the short-term Liquid Fund category. This was followed by Rs 3,029 crore inflows into the Corporate Bond Category.
Meanwhile the Low Duration Funds saw outflows of Rs 4,100 crore, followed by RS 3,610 crore outflows from Floater Funds in February.

India is open to Chinese investment despite border clashes between the two countries, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology of India, Rajeev Chandrasekhar told the Financial Times in an interview.
He also mentioned that India is doing business with any company anywhere as long as they invest and conduct their business lawfully. This comes even as India has ramped up its scrutiny against Chinese businesses in the country.&nbsp;
"We are open to doing business with any company anywhere as long as they are investing and conducting their business lawfully and are in compliance with the Indian laws," Chandrasekhar told the FT, adding that India was "open to all investment, including Chinese".

India has so far banned more than 300 Chinese apps including TikTok. The country has also rejected a $ 1 billion investment proposal of Chinese electric car maker BYD and its Hyderabad based partner Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) to set up an electric vehicle manufacturing plant. India had reportedly rejected the investment due to security concerns.
In 2020, India had decided to limit the investments from China as tensions escalated amid clash between the two countries' soldiers. India also brought in restrictions to all countries that are sharing a border. By this, the beneficial owners of neighbouring countries who want to invest in India must posses permission from their countries.
Meanwhile, in March 2023, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that India is not considering easing restrictions that was put on foreign investments from countries that share land border with India.

A deal to buy a minority stake in the Tamil Nadu based dairy products company Milky Mist, is close to being finalised by WestBridge Capital, which supports both private and public market companies.
Economic Times reported quoting sources that the estimated investment will likely total around Rs 800 crore and value Milky Mist Dairy Foods at around Rs 7,000 crore.
The discussions, which lasted over a year, are now complete, and WestBridge is nearing completion of all remaining formalities.
In order to raise money, Milky Mist has previously had negotiations with private equity and venture capital firms. These discussions, however, were unsuccessful. The company has never raised institutional capital before, as reported by Economic Times.&nbsp;

Mahindra is likely to raise capital in multiple tranches over the next two fiscal years, primarily through stake sales in the EV subsidiary.&nbsp; Mahindra is preparing to establish a new EV factory near Pune and developing platforms for its upcoming electric sport utility vehicles. The conglomerate has estimated an investment requirement of at least ₹10,000 crore for its EV business over the next 2-3 years.
Last year, Mahindra and British International Investment (BII) signed a binding agreement to invest as much as $250 million each into Mahindra&rsquo;s EV subsidiary.&nbsp;

<li>Small savings schemes are usually eligible for tax exemption under section 80 C.&nbsp;</li>

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana: This scheme was launched with the aim of securing the future of a girl child. The account for this scheme can be opened in the name of a girl child by her parents or legal guardian at any time, before she turns 10. Here are the details of the scheme:

<li>Only one account per girl child is allowed.</li>
<li>Currently, the interest rate is 7.6%, but this is subject to changes every 3 months.</li>
<li>Minimum investment of Rs 250 and a maximum investment of Rs 1,50,000 can be made per financial year.</li>
<li>Minimum deposit of Rs 250 needs to be made every year for 15 years.&nbsp;</li>
<li>The scheme matures after the completion of 21 years from the account opening.</li>
<li>Partial withdrawal of 50% can be done for marriage (after the age of 18) or higher education of the girl child.</li>
<li>The scheme qualifies for deduction under section 80 C and the interest on the investment is also exempt from tax.&nbsp;</li>

This is a shift from the previous survey, which showed that 82% of women bought homes for end-use, and 18% for investment. The survey also shows that 83% of the women respondents were looking for homes priced above Rs 45 lakh. The sweet spot for 36% of women home seekers is the Rs 45-90 lakh budget range, while 27% prefer premium homes priced between Rs 90 lakh and Rs 1.5 Cr, and 20% prefer luxury homes priced above Rs 1.5 Cr.&nbsp;

Mutual fund industry body, AMFI (Association of Mutual Funds of India), has released a wishlist of what the industry wants from Budget 2023.&nbsp;
1) Uniform tax implications for MFs &amp; ULIPs: Currently equity mutual funds are subject to 10% capital gains tax. However, ULIPs are tax free under certain conditions (if sum assured is &gt;10 times premium, 5-year lock-in, premium &lt; Rs 2.5 lakh)&nbsp;
2) Tax parity with listed bonds: Currently, 10% tax is levied for gains on listed debentures if held for over 12 months, but for debt mutual funds, 20% is levied if held for more than 36 months.&nbsp; 3) Clarity on scheme mergers: There are different tax implications for mutual fund schemes which have been merged versus consolidation of options under one scheme.&nbsp;
4) Increase in threshold limit for TDS: In case of dividend payouts, threshold limit of tax deducted at source is currently Rs 5000. AMFI wants this limit increased to Rs 50,000.&nbsp;

Police in Hyderabad have busted a Chinese investment fraud of Rs 903 crore with the arrest of 10 people, including a Chinese national. The police began investigation after a local complained of being cheated after he invested Rs 1.6 lakh in an investment app. It was found that the money of the local was deposited in the account of a private company with a private bank. When police located the owner of the bank account, who is a resident of Delhi, he revealed that he opened the bank account on the orders of a Chinese man and that he gave the internet banking user name and password to him.
It was also found that several bank accounts were opened by the Delhi man and his accomplice. The two persons received a commission of Rs 1.2 lakh per banl account.
A large amount of money from 38 virtual bank accounts of the private company went to two money changing companies.
The modus operandi was to use RBI approved money changers to convert illegally gathered funds through investment apps, and transfer them into dollars and then send them abroad.
The investigation showed that two persons who played major role in the fraud are in China.
The Hyderabad police would coordinate with agencies like ED and DRI in view of the serious nature of the fraud.
