In FY23, Apple's iPhone exports from India increased by over four times year over year to reach $5 billion (more than Rs 40,000 crore), as the Cupertino-based company's suppliers increased local production of its high-end devices in line with a rising push to establish the nation as a manufacturing powerhouse.
Experts claim that the Apple iPhone became the first brand to surpass $5 billion in exports from India, demonstrating how quickly the business has expanded its manufacturing facilities here over the past several years.
According to trade and industry data, supported by Apple, India's total smartphone exports also surpassed $10 billion for the first time in a fiscal year in FY23, with Samsung accounting for roughly $3.5&ndash;4 billion. According to business professionals, India is now selling smartphones to markets like the UK, Italy, France, the Middle East, Japan, Germany, and Russia.&nbsp;
Apple has increased its investment in India as a manufacturing base, not just for exports but also for the domestic market, where there is an increase in demand for high-end gadgets.
Compared to less than 1% in 2020, India today produces 5% of all iPhones. India comes in second place behind China as the world's largest producer of iPhones.
On April 18 and April 20, respectively, the Cupertino-based company is expected to establish its first two company-owned retail locations in India in Mumbai and Delhi. In 2020, the business launched its online store, as reported by ET.

An iPhone X modded to support a USB-C port for charging and data transfers, has been listed for auction on ebay. The used iPhone, touted as the world&rsquo;s first iPhone with USB-C, has a current highest bid of $100,100, or nearly ₹75 lakh.
The phone was modified by Robotics engineering student Ken Pillonel, who has detailed the process in a YouTube video. In the 13-minute video, Pillonel describes how he reverse engineered Apple&rsquo;s C94 connector, which allowed him to create a custom PCB with a female USB-C port.
The eventual buyer will receive the 64GB iPhone X with USB-C, the box, and free shipping anywhere in the world, but no accessories.

Although the phone is up for sale, Pillonel has clarified that the person who ends up buying the device will have to abide by a few conditions. According to the ebay listing, the buyer should not restore, update, or erase the device, should not use the device as a daily driver, and should not open up the device physically. However, Pillonel has guaranteed that the phone will work when received.
The eventual buyer will receive the 64GB iPhone X with USB-C, the box, and free shipping anywhere in the world, but no accessories. Pillonel has also promised a 30-minute support call for answering any questions.

However, the Lightning connector&rsquo;s time may be limited, as the European Union has recently proposed laws that would force all smartphone manufacturers to use the USB-C standard. The port would also be mandated on smartphones, tablets, cameras, portable speakers, and video game consoles. The laws, which have been criticised by Apple, are a few years from coming into force. If implemented, they would force the tech giant to switch to USB-C at least in Europe.
