Days-long wait for an IRCTC refund may soon become a thing of the past

The users have long complained about the waiting time to get their refund on a canceled or unbooked ticket from IRCTC.&nbsp;

As per a report by India Today, the refund time on IRCTC may soon drop to an hour and customers will not be required to wait for days to get refund on a cancelled or unbooked ticket.&nbsp;
Right now, the refund amount to come back to the account takes around 1-2 days in both situations, whether it is refunded on a canceled ticket or if a ticket did not get booked. The report suggests that the details are not yet finalized but IRCTC and Centre for Railway Information Systems are working on it to make it more convenient for users.&nbsp;
Customers have long complained about the longer duration of waiting time for their amount to get refunded.&nbsp;
Currently, the process may be sluggish. In case of a booking failure, IRCTC initiates the refund on the following day. Subsequently, the duration of refund processing varies, Then it is up to the banking institution or payment service utilized, potentially extending over several days.

This year the Ministry of Railways is celebrating India's 76th Independence Day by running a special 'Azadi ki Amrit Yatra' tour on its Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train covering destinations associated with India's freedom struggle.&nbsp;

The IRCTC is offering to cover to cover tourists destinations including Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Salt Memorial at Dandi, Yerawada Jail &amp; Aga Khan Palace in Pune and Jhansi Fort along with pilgrimage sites Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga temple, Shirdi, Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga temple etc.

The train will depart on August 22 from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station for 08 nights and 09 days which will accommodate 204 tourists. The price for this package starts from ₹ 31,731 to ₹ 68,145 depending on the AC coupe.

The Enforcement (ED) Friday conducted searches in multiple cities of Bihar in connection with a money laundering investigation into the land for jobs 'scam' case in which RJD leaders Lalu Prasad and his wife Rabri Devi were questioned recently by the CBI.
The searches are covering some leaders linked to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in towns like Patna and Phulwari Sharif, officials said.
The case pertains to people allegedly given employment in the railways in return for land parcels gifted or sold at cheap rates to the Yadav family and its associates, they said. The CBI has filed a charge sheet in the case against Prasad, his wife and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi and 14 others under charges of criminal conspiracy and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and all the accused have been summoned on March 15, officials had said.

CBI reopens probe against Lalu Yadav in IRCTC scam case

In 2018, the federal agency began probe into allegations of corruption in the allotment of Railway projects when Yadav held the portfolio.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has re-initiated probe against former RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) scam, according to an NDTV report.
The federal agency had registered a criminal case against then Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. Bihar's current Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, and Yadav's daughters were also among those named in the corruption scam.&nbsp;
In 2018, the federal agency began probe into allegations of corruption in the allotment of Railway projects when Yadav held the portfolio. However, the inquiry was closed in May 2021, with CBI sources saying that "no case has been made out of the allegations", NDTV reported.&nbsp;
CBI's probe comes months after Nitish Kumar parted ways with the BJP and joined hands with Rashtriya Janata Dal to form the government in Bihar. It is likely to kickstart a political storm in the state.&nbsp;

Any silver lining?
Since sales on the counter are restricted, those through IRCTC have risen. The option of raising the service charge is not ruled out, an official told a business daily. He said IRCTC booked around 7 lakh tickets a day during the pre-pandemic period. This has now risen to around 13 lakh a day. So even if the ministry takes half the revenue, IRCTC&rsquo;s bottom line will not change much.
