BJP's state chief K Annamalai said that the ad showed the ruling DMK's committment to China.&nbsp;
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too trained his guns on the DMK while addressing a public event in Tirunelveli.&nbsp;
'DMK does not do any work, but takes false credit. They put their sticker on our schemes. To take credit for a new ISRO launchpad, they have pasted a Chinese flag symbol. &nbsp;Moving ahead on its mission to study the Earth and ocean surfaces, ISRO on Saturday successfully launched its next generation weather observation satellite INSAT-3DS onboard a GSLV rocket into a precise orbit.
The flawless mission prompted the ISRO to virtually heave a sigh of relief over the challenging GSLV rocket technology, as the director of today's mission said the "naughty boy has matured into an obedient, disciplined boy," apparently referring to its past unsuccessful missions.
ISRO Chairman S Somanath said the success gave the space agency "greater confidence," as the GSLV will be next deployed in the NISAR mission, a collaborative effort with the US' NASA.
The INSAT-3DS satellite, weighing 2274 kg is a follow-on mission of the third generation meteorological satellite to be placed in a geostationary orbit and is funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
The objective of the mission is to provide continuity of services to existing operational INSAT-3D (launched in 2013) and INSAT-3DR (September 2016) for enhanced meteorological observations, monitoring of land and ocean surfaces, weather forecast and disaster warning, as well as to provide satellite aided Search and Rescue Services (SAR) among others.
At the end of the 27.5 hour countdown, the nearly 52 metre tall GSLV-F14 lifted-off majestically from the second launch pad at this spaceport, at a pre-fixed time of 5.35 pm.
The three stage rocket with a cryogenic upper stage, after a flight of about 20 minutes, got separated from the vehicle as planned and placed the satellite into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit.
Later, scientists at ISRO would undertake a series of manoeuvres to place the satellite into the Geo-stationary orbit in the coming days.
The rocket carries imager and sounder payloads, data relay transponders, satellite aided SAR transponders which would be used to study cloud properties, fog, rainfall, snow cover and depth, fire, smoke, land and ocean among others.
The imager and sounder payloads incorporated in today's mission are similar to those carried by INSAT-3D and INSAT-3DR, with significant improvements in radiometric performances, the space agency said.
INSAT stands for Indian National Satellite System.
Somanath, also Secretary, Department of Space announced the successful accomplishment of the mission.
"The spacecraft has been injected into a very good orbit. The injection conditions were as expected and the vehicle has performed very very well...INSAT-3DS is the next generation weather satellite with improved capability over the existing INSAT series. This will augment the capability of observation of various atmospheric parameters that leads to information related to weather and climate," he said from the Mission Control Center.
Mission Director Tomy Joseph, referring to the GSLV said, "the naughty boy has matured as a very obedient and disciplined boy." "Like PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle), GSLV has also become a robust vehicle for ISRO," he said, with his remarks prompting cheers and applause.
Somanath added that with today's mission, ISRO's confidence on GSLV was "further high." "As all of you know, the next mission of the GSLV is going to be the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite and this gives greater confidence," for the next mission, he said.
According to ISRO, NISAR is a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) observatory being jointly developed by NASA and the Indian space agency. NISAR will map the entire globe in 12 days and provide spatially and temporally consistent data for understanding changes in Earth&rsquo;s ecosystems, ice mass, vegetation biomass, sea level rise, ground water and natural hazards including earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes and landslides.
Imteyaz Ahamed, Satellite Director of Saturday's mission said the payloads of INSAT-3DS have been significantly enhanced and the enhancements are in terms of configuration, content and capability resulting in increased imaging throughput.
The satellite was on its way to the destination, with the solar panels having been deployed. A series of orbit raising manoeuvres will be performed in the next few days followed by in orbit testing and commissioning of the spacecraft, Ahamed added.
Various departments of Ministry of Earth Sciences such as India Meteorological Department, National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, National Institute of Ocean Technology, Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services and various agencies and institutes would benefit from the data provided by INSAT-3DS to provide improved weather forecasts and meteorological services, ISRO said.
The life of the INSAT-3DS mission is expected to be around 10 years.&nbsp;

ISRO on Saturday successfully placed Adiyta-L1, the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun, into its destination orbit Lagrange Point-1.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement on ISRO's latest feat.
"India creates yet another landmark. India&rsquo;s first solar observatory Aditya-L1 reaches its destination. It is a testament to the relentless dedication of our scientists in realising among the most complex and intricate space missions." "I join the nation in applauding this extraordinary feat. We will continue to pursue new frontiers of science for the benefit of humanity," he said in a post on micro-blogging site 'X.' The Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system is about 1.5 million km from the Earth. It is about one per cent of the total distance between the Earth and the Sun.
A satellite in a halo orbit around the L1 point has the major advantage of continuously viewing the Sun without any occultations/ eclipses, ISRO officials said, adding, this will provide a greater advantage in observing solar activities and their effect on space weather in real time.
A Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C57) launched the Aditya-L1 spacecraft from the second launch pad of Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota, on September 2, 2023.
After a flight duration of 63 minutes and 20 seconds, it was successfully injected into an elliptical orbit of 235x19500 km around the Earth then.
The spacecraft underwent a series of maneuvers thereafter and headed Sun-Earth L1, having escaped the Earth's sphere of influence.
The spacecraft carries seven payloads to observe the photosphere, chromosphere and the outermost layers of the Sun (the corona) using electromagnetic and particle and magnetic field detectors.
"Using the special vantage point L1, four payloads directly view the Sun and the remaining three payloads carry out in-situ studies of particles and fields at the Lagrange point L1, thus providing important scientific studies of the propagatory effect of solar dynamics in the interplanetary medium," according to the space agency.&nbsp;

The satellite, which is a high-throughput Ka-band satellite primarily aimed at meeting India&rsquo;s growing connectivity needs, will be lifted off using the Falcon-9 heavy lift launcher from Florida in the second quarter of 2024, NSIL, the commercial arm of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said in a statement.
The satellite intends to provide high-band internet connectivity across India, especially in remote areas.&nbsp;
To provide internet in remote areas
&ldquo;NSIL will fully own, operate and fund the 4,700kg satellite, which can provide up to 48Gbps of capacity across 32 beams covering all of India including the Andaman, Nicobar, and Lakshadweep Islands,&rdquo; it said.
This is the first time that ISRO has taken the help of SpaceX to launch its big communication satellites as it has traditionally relied on the France-led Arianespace consortium.
India has often relied on foreign space agencies to carry its heavy satellites as its own rockets lack the capacity to carry heavy satellites into orbit. Currently, ISRO&rsquo;s LVM3 rocket is capable of placing only 4,000 kg mass into geostationary transfer orbit while Falcon-9 has nearly double the capacity.
India's quest to build heavy rockets&nbsp;
According to NDTV, India has launched 23 of its heavy-duty communications satellites on the rocket owned by the European Space Agency.
ISRO chief S Somanath has been stressing the need to urgently build a heavier rocket called the Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV) which can lift up to 10,000 kilograms to the same orbit. Currently, one such heavy rocket is being designed at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center and is expected to take a few more years to come to fruition.&nbsp;
Indian government's space reforms&nbsp;
The NSIL (NewSpace India Limited) was created in 2020 as part of the Indian government's space reforms. The government-owned entity comes under the Department of Space and the commercial arm of the ISRO. It has been tasked with building, launching, owning and operating satellites that address service needs on demand.
In June 2022, NSIL successfully launched its first demand-driven satellite mission, GSAT-24, which is fully leased by TataPlay. NSIL currently owns and operates 11 communication satellites in orbit.
&ldquo;The bulk of GSAT-20&rsquo;s high-throughput satellite (HTS) capacity has already been secured by Indian service providers for broadband services as well as in-flight and maritime connectivity,&rdquo; NSIL said.

ISRO welcomed the new year with the launch of its first X-Ray Polarimeter Satellite that would offer insights into celestial objects like black holes, onboard a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle rocket on Monday.
The launch comes after the success of its Gaganyaan Test Vehicle D1 mission in October.
The PSLV-C58 rocket, in its 60th mission carrries primary payload XPoSat and 10 other satellites to be deployed in low earth orbits.
The X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat) is aimed to investigate the polarisation of intense X-ray sources in space.
According to ISRO, it is the first dedicated scientific satellite from ISRO to carry out research in space-based polarisation measurements of X-ray emission from celestial sources.
Besides ISRO, the US-based National Aeronautics Space Agency (NASA) conducted a similar study -- the Imaging X-Ray Polarimetry Explorer mission in December 2021 on the remnants of supernova explosions, the particle streams emitted by black holes and other cosmic events.
While space-based X-ray astronomy has been established in India focusing on imaging, and time domain studies, Monday's mission marks a major value-addition to the scientific fraternity, the space agency said.
The objective of the PSLV-C58 mission includes measuring polarisation of X-rays in the energy band 8-30 keV emanating from about 50 potential cosmic sources, to carry out long term spectral and temporal studies of cosmic x-ray sources.
The X-Ray polarisation serves as a crucial diagnostic tool for examining the radiation mechanism and geometry of celestial sources.
The primary payload of XPoSat is POLIX (Polarimeter Instrument in X-Rays) which is designed to measure polarimetry parameters by Raman Research Institute and XSPECT (X-ray Spectroscopy and Timing) built by the U R Rao Satellite Centre, Bengaluru. The Mission life is about 5 years.
The space-based study of X-Ray polarisation is gaining utmost importance internationally, and in this context, the XPoSat mission would play a significant role, ISRO added.
XPoSat is anticipated to bring substantial benefits to the Astronomy community globally. Apart from its capability of timing and spectroscopy-based observations, the insights derived from X-ray polarisation measurements on celestial objects like black holes, neutron stars, and active galactic nuclei, hold the potential to significantly improve the understanding of their physics.
The mission is poised to play a pivotal role in building expertise in X-Ray polarimetry in India, providing a foundation for future advancements and fostering a collaborative network within the astronomy community.
The 44.4-meter-tall PSLV rocket would first deploy the primary satellite into a 650 km Low Earth Orbit around 21 minutes after lift-off and later the scientists would bring the satellite to a lower altitude of about 350 km by restarting the fourth stage of the vehicle, for conducting the PSLV Orbital Experimental Module-3 (POEM-3) experiment.
The payloads are Radiation Shielding Experiment Module by TakeMe2Space, Women Engineered Satellite by LBS Institute of Technology for Women, BeliefSat (an amateur radio satellite) built by K J Somaiya Institute of Technology, Green Impulse Transmitter by Inspecity Space Labs Pvt Ltd, LEATTD -- Launching Expeditions for Aspiring Technologies Technology Demonstrator by Dhruva Space Pvt Ltd, RUDRA 0.3HPGP and ARKA 200 developed by Bellatrix Aerospace Pvt Ltd, Dust Experiment (DEX) built by PRL, ISRO and Fuel Cell Power System and Si based High Energy cell built by Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre.

Somanath was responding to a report that claimed his autobiography had some critical remarks about his predecessor Sivan.

&nbsp;ISRO Chairman S Somanath on Saturday said he was withdrawing from the publishing of his upcoming autobiography, after a controversy erupted over some of his alleged critical remarks about his predecessor K Sivan in the book.
Somanath confirmed that he had decided to withdraw the publication of the book 'Nilavu Kudicha Simhangal' (loosely translated as - Lions that drank the moonlight), in the light of the controversy.
Earlier in the day, talking to PTI, he said every person would have to go through some kind of challenges during their journey to reach a top position in an organisation.
Somanath was responding to a report that claimed his autobiography had some critical remarks about his predecessor Sivan.
"Persons holding such key positions may have to go through several challenges. One among them is the challenges with regard to getting positions in an organisation," he said, adding that these are challenges that everybody has to go through.
"More persons might be eligible for a significant post. I just tried to bring out that particular point. I didn't target any particular individual in this regard," he explained.
He admitted that he mentioned in his book the lack of clarity in connection with the announcement of the failure of the Chandrayaan-2 mission.
The ISRO Chairman reiterated that his autobiography was an attempt to inspire people who wish to achieve by fighting challenges and obstacles in life and not criticise anyone.

This test is set to take place between 7 am and 9 am at the Sriharikota spaceport and the capsule will be recovered from the Bay of Bengal.
The announcement about the TV-D1 test flight was made on Monday, October 16. As per the space agency, the test involves launching a crew module to outer space bringing it back to Earth and recovering it after touchdown in the Bay of Bengal.&nbsp;
This project will be able to demonstrate India's human space flight capability by launching a crew of three astronauts to an orbit 400km above the earth&rsquo;s surface for a three-day mission and bringing them back safely. Currently, the astronauts are undergoing training.&nbsp;

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is facing a challenge in attracting top talents from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campuses, primarily due to the organization's pay structure. ISRO Chairman Dr S Somanath revealed that during a recruitment drive at one of the IITs, 60% of the students walked out after seeing the salary package offered by the space agency.
Somanath expressed his concerns, stating that despite the vital role played by engineers in space missions, very few IIT graduates are joining ISRO. He recounted an incident where his team presented career opportunities and salary structures at an IIT campus. However, upon learning about the ISRO salary scale, a significant portion of the students chose to leave the presentation.
The chairman pointed out that the preference for higher salaries among IIT graduates is a prevailing trend. He highlighted that while money might attract some individuals, it cannot be the sole motivation for working at ISRO. Somanath emphasized the need for adequate talent rather than necessarily the "best talent," stressing that there are highly competent individuals beyond the spectrum of those who secure IIT admissions.
Talents are spread out over a very wide spectrum of social strata, thousands and lakhs of people who have the competency of that (IIT) nature don't get the opportunity (to sit for the IIT exam)," Somanath said, adding that he was one of them. "When I was a student I never had the opportunity to write an entrance to go to IIT. That does not mean that I was not a knowing person. Lakhs of such people are not writing the IIT examination."
This issue has drawn attention from various quarters. Business tycoon Harsh Goenka noted the discrepancy between the starting salary at ISRO and the average placement package in top IITs, which stood at Rs 2.5 lakh. Moreover, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor highlighted the success of engineers from institutions like Kerala's TKM College of Engineering and College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram (CET) in Chandrayaan-3.

The space agency's announcement came hours after its chief S Somanath said the lunar mission's rover and lander, 'Pragyaan' and 'Vikram', respectively were functioning well and they would be put to "sleep" soon to withstand the night on the Moon.
"The Rover completed its assignments. It is now safely parked and set into Sleep mode. APXS and LIBS payloads are turned off. Data from these payloads is transmitted to the Earth via the Lander," ISRO said in an update on social media platform X.
At present, the battery was fully charged and the solar panel oriented to receive the light at the next sunrise expected on September 22, 2023.

Somanath had earlier in the day said the rover has moved almost 100 metres from the lander.
"And we are going to start the process of making both of them sleep in the coming one or two days because they have to withstand the night," he said.&nbsp;

India prepares for its first-ever solar mission. Aditya L1 is scheduled for launch on September 2.

India gears up for its maiden solar mission launch scheduled for September 2 from Sriharikota at 11:50 AM. ISRO said Aditya L1 onboard the PSLV has already undergone launch rehearsal and internal vehicle checks.
The Indian space agency started its countdown to the launch over 23 hours before the scheduled launch.
The spacecraft is expected to complete its journey to the desired orbit in 125 days and provide remote observations of the sun.
It will be the first dedicated Indian space mission for observations of the Sun to be launched by the Bengaluru-headquartered space agency, news agency PTI reported.

The Sun observatory mission is all set to be launched from this spaceport at 11.50 AM on Saturday and comes close on the heels of India's successful moon expedition, Chandrayaan-3.

ISRO on August 26 said two of the three Chandrayaan-3 mission objectives have been achieved while the third -- in-situ scientific experiments -- is underway.
The national space agency headquartered in Bengaluru also said all the payloads of Chandrayaan-3 mission are performing normally.
"Chandrayaan-3 Mission: Of the 3 mission objectives, demonstration of a safe and soft landing on the lunar surface is accomplished. Demonstration of Rover roving on the moon is accomplished. Conducting in-situ scientific experiments is underway. All payloads are performing normally," ISRO said on &lsquo;X&rsquo;, formerly known as Twitter.

Sharing the video on X (formerly known as Twitter), ISRO said, "a two-segment ramp facilitated the roll-down of the rover. A solar panel enabled the rover to generate power. Here is how the rapid deployment of the ramp and solar panel took place, prior to the rolldown of the rover. The deployment mechanisms, totalling 26 in the Ch-3 mission, were developed at U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC)/ISRO, Bengaluru."

The landing sequence, described as "15 minutes of terror", ended in jubilation as the Vikram lander module of Chandrayaan 3 successfully touched down near the Moon's South Pole.

Chandrayaan-3 was India&rsquo;s second attempt at a soft landing on the Moon and it became the fourth nation to achieve the feat.&nbsp;
The moon mission was designed to support exploration of the moon&rsquo;s south polar region, making India the first country to do so. The spacecraft was launched on July 14, 2023, after which it went through multiple space manoeuvres.
The month-long journey came to an end earlier this month when Chandrayaan-3 placed itself in lunar orbit and was on standby for the landing window.
ISRO Chief S Somanath demonstrated immense confidence in Chandrayaan-3, saying that it was ready for all kinds of emergencies.
&ldquo;If everything fails, if all the sensors fail, nothing works, still it (Vikram) will make a landing. That's how it has been designed -- provided that the propulsion system works well,&rdquo; ISRO director said.
Chandrayaan-3&rsquo;s predecessor, launched in July 2019, held similar ambitions but lost contact with ISRO minutes before its scheduled landing time.&nbsp;

Reports say that India&rsquo;s space mission has a budget of Rs. 615 crore, making it significantly cheaper and more efficient than lunar missions of other countries. Only three countries &ndash; China, US and Soviet Union &ndash; have made a soft landing on the moon.
News agency PTI reported that India's space economy is expected to be worth USD 13 billion by 2025.
By comparison, the Australian Civil Space Strategy 2019&ndash;2028 aims to triple the sector's contribution to GDP to AUD 12 billion and create an additional 20,000 jobs by 2030.

In a giant leap for its space programme, India's Moon mission Chandrayaan-3 touched down on the lunar south pole at 6.04 pm on Wednesday, propelling the country to an exclusive club of four and making it the first country to land on the uncharted surface.
With this touchdown on Moon to script history after a flawless 41-day voyage and less than a week after a Russian lander headed to the lunar south pole crashed, India has become the fourth country to master the technology of soft-landing on the Moon after the US, China and the erstwhile Soviet Union.
But no country has ever landed a rover on the treacherous south pole that scientists believe could hold important reserves of frozen water and precious elements. Russia's Luna-25 spacecraft that was headed to the lunar south pole weeks after the launch of the Indian mission on July 14 crashed into the Moon on Sunday after spinning out of control.
Taking a billion dreams to the Moon in India's second attempt in four years, Chandrayaan-3's four-legged lander Vikram with the 26-kg rover Pragyan in its belly, made the soft landing near the south polar region of the Moon as per plans successfully negotiating what ISRO scientists described as the "20 minutes of terror" during the powered descent initiated at 5.44 pm.
