Jammu and Kashmir&rsquo;s two former chief minister Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have slammed the&nbsp;Modi&nbsp;government&rsquo;s&nbsp;amendments to land ownership rights in&nbsp;the union territory. PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said that Centre&nbsp;has &ldquo;finally put land in J-K up for sale&rdquo;&nbsp;while her predecessor and NC leader Omar Abdullah called the amendments unacceptable.&nbsp;Mufti called the new laws as a part of&nbsp;Centre's&nbsp;nefarious&nbsp;designs to disempower&nbsp;and&nbsp;disenfranchise people of Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;Omar Abdullah said&nbsp;even the tokenism of domicile has been done away with when purchasing non-agricultural land &amp; transfer of agricultural land has been made easier.&nbsp;He also said&nbsp;J&amp;K is now up for sale.&nbsp; &nbsp;

The Centre has paved the way for people from outside Jammu and Kashmir to buy land in the union territory by amending several laws, over a year after the nullification of Articles 370 and 35A of the Constitution. Before repeal of Article 370 and Article 35-A in August last year, non-residents could not buy any immovable property in J&amp;K. There are several exemptions in the new amendments which enable transfer of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes, including setting up of educational or health care facilities.

Former J&amp;K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti attacked PM Narendra Modi over his speech at a Bihar election rally where he mentioned Article 370, saying when they fail on real issues, they rake up Article 370. "Today the PM had to resort to Article 370 for vote bank in Bihar. Real issues they don't even want to touch. When they fail on the real issues, they rake up Kashmir and Article 370," Mufti said. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had targeted the opposition for "daring" to seek votes in the state while seeking restoration of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Former J&amp;K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah&nbsp;will be voluntarily&nbsp;vacating government accommodation&nbsp;in Srinagar by the end of October. Tweeting his letter to the J&amp;K administration written in July, Abdullah&nbsp;wrote that he is choosing to vacate the house of his own accord contrary to reports that he has given a notice to do so.&nbsp;
Abdullah&nbsp;said that&nbsp;after&nbsp;the changes made to the entitlements for former chief ministers of J&amp;K he finds himself in&nbsp;unauthorised occupation of the house and that is unacceptable&nbsp;to him.&nbsp;
In his letter the National Conference wrote that the Gupkar&nbsp;Road house in Srinagar&nbsp;was allotted to him in&nbsp;2002 when he was an MP from Srinagar. After his election as the chief minister of J&amp;K the complex and the adjoining house were used as his&nbsp;official residence till 2015 when he demitted office. Abdullah&nbsp;goes on to write that he had retained the residence in Srinagar&nbsp;after that as per the rules.&nbsp;

In a joint interview with his son and former CM Omar Abdullah to the Hindustan Times, Abdullah&nbsp;senior said that the National Conference opted out of the Delimitation Commission in May as the BJP is trying to divide the union territory on religious lines. "We told the Centre on their face that we do not believe in your delimitation," the veteran&nbsp;politicians said, adding that the BJP "wants a Hindu majority to emerge in J&amp;K and the Muslim majority to go down&rdquo;.
