The Jharkhand Police on Thursday said it arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly waving a Palestinian flag during a Muharram procession in the state's Dumka district.
Another person was also detained in this connection.
The police launched an investigation after videos purportedly showing some youths waving Palestinian flags during a Muharram procession in Dumka district went viral on social media on Wednesday.
In one such video, a youth was seen waving the flags atop a vehicle and raising slogans during the Muharram procession at Dudhani Chowk.
"We have arrested a resident of Deoghar Sabji Mandi from his relative's place in Dudhani for waving a Palestinian flag during the Muharram procession. We have also detained another person. Their interrogation is on," Dumka Town police station Officer in Charge, Amit Kumar Lakra, told PTI.
Earlier, Sub Divisional Police Officer of Dumka, Vijay Kumar Mahto, had said that investigations were on and action would be taken if the video clips were found genuine.
BJP state president Babulal Marandi had shared one such video on X and demanded strict action against such people with "Talibani mentality".
Marandi attacked the Hemant Soren government, alleging that such instances were the result of "Muslim appeasement" policy of his administration.

The Jharkhand High Court on Friday granted bail to former Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a money laundering case linked to a land scam.
The high court had on June 13 reserved its decision on Soren's bail plea.
"Bail has been granted to Soren. The court has held that prima facie he is not guilty of the offence and there is no likelihood of the petitioner committing an offence when on bail," Soren's senior counsel Arunabh Chowdhury told PTI.
Soren was arrested by the Enforcement directorate in January in an investigation into the alleged illegal possession of 8.36 acres of land.&nbsp;

Another accused in the gang-rape of a stage performer in Jharkhand's Palamu district was arrested, taking the total number of apprehended persons in the case to three, police said on Thursday.
Vishrampur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rakesh Singh said that the third accused, who was absconding since the gang-rape incident surfaced, was arrested and sent to jail during the day.
&ldquo;All accused in the case have been arrested,&rdquo; he said.
The 21-year-old stage performer from Chhattisgarh was allegedly gang-raped on March 2 by three co-artistes on a road in the Vishrampur Police Station area, around 200 km from the state capital Ranchi.
Two accused in the case were arrested on Monday.
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) secretary Arpit Shrivastava met the victim on Thursday.
The authority with the help of the district administration shifted the woman to a centre, and a caretaker has also been deputed for her care.
The incident took place days after a foreign tourist was allegedly gang-raped in Dumka district.&nbsp;

A 21-year-old orchestra dancer was gang-raped in the Palamu district of the state. The victim has accused three men of spiking her drink and gang-raping her. The survivor, who is recovering at a government-run hospital, has told the police that she is a resident of Chhattisgarh and had come to Palamu to perform in an orchestra at a wedding.
She told police that Golu, one of the accused who runs an orchestra group, had invited her and her sister for a performance but later cancelled it.
The accused then brought her to his home where he offered her a drink which, she alleged was spiked. In an intoxicated state, Golu along with his two friends, repeatedly raped her.
The incident comes days after a Spanish tourist was allegedly gang-raped in Jharkhand's Dumka. Four accused have been arrested in the case and an investigation is on.

Principal District Judge in Jharkhand's Dumka Anil Kumar Mishra met the Spanish woman who was allegedly gang-raped who was on a bike tour with her husband.
After the meeting, the judge in a report said that the victim was emotionally shattered but was in stable physical condition.
According to an Indian Express report, the judge ensured that the woman has security, assisted in recording her statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and ordered a compensation of ₹10 lakh be paid to her.
The woman was allegedly raped by seven men on Friday night after she and her partner stopped in Dumka for the night.
Meanwhile, the Jharkhand High Court on Monday took suo motu cognisance of the Spanish woman's gang rape in Dumka district and asked the state government to file a report on the matter.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Navneet Kumar issued notices to the DGP, chief secretary and the SP of Dumka in this regard.
The court will hear the case again on March 7.

"My face looks like this, but it's not what hurts me the most. I thought we were going to die," the 28-year-old woman, who was gang-raped by seven men in Jharkhand's Dumka district, said in Spanish in a video that is going viral.
The Spanish couple were on a world tour and were in India's Jharkhand after travelling in 63 countries. They had come from Bangladesh, and intended to continue through Bihar and ultimately reach Nepal.
But the woman said that she was attacked on March 1 in Kurmahat village when the couple were spending the night in a makeshift tent.
Apart from the sexual assault on the woman, the couple was also thrashed by the accused and robbed of cash and other belongings as they resisted the crime.
After the horrific incident, the woman shared her ordeal on social media but quickly took down the video, claiming that the Jharkhand Police asked them not to "disturb" the investigation.
"Something has happened to us that we would not wish on anyone. Seven men have raped me," the woman said in the video, showing the horrific injuries on their faces.&nbsp;
"The police told me to turn off the post so as not to disturb the investigation. I will post it later," the woman shared on her Instagram stories.
"My face looks like this, but it's not what hurts me the most. I thought we were going to die. Thank God we are alive," she wrote.
The clip nevertheless became viral, with many netizens expressing shock at how her face got swollen, and her husband bruised up.
The woman later said on Instagram post that she would share the video again. Meanwhile, the police have arrested three, and the hunt is on to nab the remaining four.
Police have formed a special investigation team (SIT) to ensure a thorough and swift inquiry.
Dumka Superintendent of Police (SP), Pitambar Singh Kherwar, said on March 2 that the local police patrolling team discovered the distressed couple late on Friday night.&nbsp;

"I think, if you are unable to make in the national team or IPL, it is best time to leave space for talented youngsters," Tiwary said at a press conference at JSCA office situated at Keenan stadium premises here.
Asked about his future plans, Tiwary said, "I have got everything from Jharkhand and politics is the appropriate platform to give back to the state." However, he later said that he is not joining politics and he would want to remain associated with cricket.

He also scored 1494 runs at an average of 28.73 and a strike rate of 120 in 93 IPL matches. In total, he racked up 3454 T20 runs with 16 fifties at an average of 29.02 and strike rate of 122.17 in 181 matches.
In the ongoing Ranji season, Tiwary has played four games for Jharkhand, who are out of contention for the knockout stage.
Tiwary, whose cricketing career began as an 11-year-old, earned his first-class debut in the 2006-07 Ranji Trophy season. He was part of India U-19 World Cup winning team led by former India skipper Virat Kohli in 2008.
He has also led Jharkhand 88 time across formats, winning 36, losing 33 and drawing 19. In his List A career, Tiwary scored 4050 runs in 116 games with 27 fifties and six hundreds at an average of 46.55. He last played IPL as part of Mumbai Indians in 2021.

Earlier on Wednesday, Hemant Soren filed a complaint against ED officials accusing them of harassment.
Soren alleged that the ED conducted the search operation at his residence in the national capital to "harass and malign him and his entire community", the officials said, quoting the FIR.
"An FIR has been lodged against some senior ED officials... we got the application from the chief minister," Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police Chandan Kumar Sinha told PTI.
"My family members and I have suffered and experienced immense mental, psychological and emotional harm because of the acts committed...," Soren said in the FIR, according to the officials. The FIR has been lodged under sections of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act that include instituting false, malicious or vexatious suit or criminal or other legal proceedings against a member of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe besides intentionally insulting or intimidating "with intent to humiliate a member of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe in any place within public view".
The sections also include abuse of any member of SC/ST by caste name in any place within public view or by words either written or spoken promoting feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will against them by "whoever, not being a member of a SC or a ST".

Hemant Soren tendered his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan at the Raj Bhavan, where he went along with alliance legislators.
"Hemant Soren has resigned as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. The ruling JMM-Congress-RJD alliance has proposed the name of senior JMM leader Champai Soren as the new CM," state Congress president Rajesh Thakur said.
"We have staked a claim to form the new government with the support of 47 MLAs," JMM legislative party leader Champai Soren.
Earlier, the legislators gathered at Hemant Soren's residence elected the transport minister Champai Soren as the leader of the JMM legislative party with the party spokesperson Vinod Pandey saying that a consensus was reached on his name.
A legislator from the Serikela assembly constituency for more than three decades since 1991, Champai Soren is known to be a loyalist of JMM supremo Shibu Soren.
Born in November 1956 at Jilinggora village in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan district, Champai Soren is a matriculate and father of seven children. He is the son of a farmer and is not related to the Hemant Soren's family.&nbsp;

Prohibitory orders have been clamped in key areas of Ranchi and a three-member team has been formed to oversee the law and order situation in the Jharkhand capital amid Chief Minister Hemant Soren&rsquo;s questioning by the ED, officials said on Wednesday.
Officers of the Enforcement Directorate reached the CM's residence here around 1.20 pm to record his statement in an alleged money laundering case linked to a land scam. The questioning has been continuing for over five hours, an official said.
Amid the suspense over his whereabouts and intense political drama, Soren reached his official residence here on Tuesday and chaired a meeting of his alliance MLAs.
According to an official release, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC, which was earlier made effective from 9 am to 10pm on Wednesday, has now been extended till further notice within a radius of 100 metres at key locations, including the CM House, Raj Bhavan and the ED office at Doranda.
As part of the restrictions, demonstrations, rallies and meetings cannot be held in and around these areas.
The three-member special team is led by finance secretary Prashant Kumar and has mines director Arva Rajkamal and special branch IG Prabhat Kumar as members.
Following protests that took place across the state on January 20 during Soren&rsquo;s questioning by ED sleuths at his residence here, the federal agency wrote to the department of home, prison and disaster management to ensure law and order during the second round of quizzing on Wednesday, the release said.
As part of the security measures, barricades have been put up outside the ED office and the chief minister&rsquo;s residence, and more than 1,000 security personnel have been deployed at strategic locations, a senior police officer said.
DGP Ajay Kumar Singh had said on Tuesday that elaborate security arrangements have been made across Jharkhand to maintain law and order, including deployment of an additional 7,000 policemen.

Jharkhand government ordered the closure of all schools from June 12 to June 14, 2023, due to "excessive heat".
The district magistrate of Patna said that till June 18, academic activities should not be held at private and government schools up to Class 12.
The DM said that the health and life of children were at risk due to "high temperatures".

The incident took place on June 6, 2023, when the Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express was passing through the Santhaldih railway crossing near Bhojudih station.
A tractor crashed the railway gate and got stuck between the train tracks and the gate. The train driver applied brakes and the locomotive stopped in time, preventing a tragedy.
The driver of the tractor fled the spot. The tractor was seized and an FIR was lodged at the police station concerned. The gateman was also suspended.

The incident took place in Chatra, Jharkhand on the night of May 7, 2023, when 3-year-old Shivam fell into the well while playing near it. 13-year-old Kajal saw this and jumped into the well.
She caught the toddler with one hand and held onto the pipe of a motor pump with the other to stay afloat.
They were rescued around half an hour later, and a badly-injured Kajal was taken to hospital.

The CBI said that the two new cases are related to the alleged theft of three mobile phones by the accused persons. the cases were initially registered by the Jharkhand Police and the CBI has now taken over the investigation.
The CBI is now investigation a total of three cases in connection with the Dhanbad judge's death.

It was first believed to be a case of hit and run but video footage later showed that the tempo had intentionally hit the judge.

Earlier on Wednesday, CBI also increased the cash reward on information regarding the case from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. The case was handed over to CBI by the Supreme Court on August 4.
