England white-ball captain Jos Buttler on Tuesday defended the ECB for pulling its players out of the IPL for national duty against Pakistan before adding that international cricket should not clash with the world's biggest T20 league.
Buttler's absence has hurt the Rajasthan Royals and they will be without him in IPL Eliminator against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Wednesday.
The other England players who could not be part of the playoffs were Will Jacks, Reece Topley and Phil Salt. England take on Pakistan in the first of the four T20s here on Wednesday.
"I said, 'Look, as an England captain, my main priority is to be playing for England,'" Buttler told reporters here on Tuesday.
"It's my personal opinion that there shouldn't be any international cricket that clashes with the IPL. I think that these games have been in the calendar for a long time. Of course, leading into a World Cup, your No. 1 priority is playing for England and performing for England. I feel like this is the best preparation," he added.
England players returned home even before the completion of the league stage on Sunday.
Sam Curran, who represented Punjab Kings in the IPL, said ECB's decision made a lot of sense.
"It was a decision that was made, that it was probably the right thing for us all to come back. It was only fair for all franchise to lose a player each or so&hellip; it would have been quite harsh if some franchises got to keep a couple of players and then some didn't," the all-rounder, whose IPL team did not qualify for the play-offs, was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

England's T20 World Cup-bound cricketers, who were part of the IPL, were due to return to national duty ahead of the marquee event in June.
Remaining English cricketers, CSK's Moeen Ali, Punjab Kings' Jonny Bairstow and Sam Curran and KKR's Phil Salt will begin to return home in the next few days.&nbsp;
They will meet up in Leeds ahead of England's first T20I at Headingley on May 22.

Rajasthan Royals' star Jos Buttler on Tuesday said he never lost self belief during his match-winning hundred in Kolkata and took a leaf out of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli's books on how to achieve targets from adverse situations.
Buttler, who missed RR's last game against Punjab Kings due to an injury, single-handedly pulled off IPL's biggest chase while overwhelming Kolkata Knight Riders' 223 for 6 in the last ball of the match, remaining unbeaten on 107 off 60 balls.
He was struggling to even walk towards the end but didn't give up.
"Keep believing, that was the real key today. I was struggling a bit for rhythm. At times you feel frustrated or you are questioning yourself. I tell myself it's okay, keep going, you'll get your rhythm back and try to stay calm.
"There's been plenty of times throughout the IPL, you've seen crazy things happen. Guys like Dhoni and Kohli, the way they stay till the end and keep believing and I tried to do the same," Buttler said at the post-match presentation.
The Englishman also credited RR's Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara for enhancing his self belief.
"That's something Sanagakkara has told me a lot - there's always a breaking point," he said.
"The worse thing you can do is to not fight and give your wicket away. He (Sangakkara) just tells me to stay there and at some point, the momentum will change. That's been a big part of my play over the last few years." He termed Tuesday's knock as his best IPL innings.
"I would think so (best IPL innings). Very satisfying." RR skipper Sanju Samson said Buttler is a special player and when he is on song, no target is safe.
"Very happy with the win. We were wondering like the wickets we lost. Rovman (Powell) hit a couple of sixes and that's when we felt like we were in the game. Some luck also, they also played really well. The quality of spin they had, they bowled really well. This ground suited them.
"Jos (Buttler) did what he does for us in the last 6-7 years, so happy for him. It (Buttler's knock) should go right on top. Being an opener, if he gets in, no runs are unchaseable. He does something special," he said.
KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer said it was a bitter pill to swallow for his team.
"I would second that actually (bitter pill to swallow), emotions were a roller coaster, certainly didn't think we will get into this situation.
"It's a funny game at the end of the day, he (Jos Buttler) was striking the ball cleanly and timing them so well, have to take it on the chin and move on," Iyer said after the two two-wicket loss.&nbsp;

Spinners Narine (2-30) and Varun Chakravarthy (2-36) strangled Rajasthan in the middle overs as they slumped to 121-6 in the 13th over. But Rovman Powell hit a brisk 26 off 13 balls before he fell leg before wicket in the 17th over in Narine&rsquo;s last over before Buttler singlehandedly took the game away from Kolkata.

The record for the most number of ducks in a single IPL season now belongs to Jos Buttler.&nbsp;
The England limited-overs captain was trapped plumb in front by Kagiso Rabada is just the second over of the innings.&nbsp;
Before IPL 2023, the Rajasthan Royals batter had only registered 1 duck during his entire IPL career, but this season alone, he has been out for naught a record 5 times.&nbsp;

Deciding to bat first, the opening duo of skipper Jos Buttler and Alex Hales got England off to a flying start with an 81-run partnership in 10 overs.
It seemed that the Kiwis would have to chase down a huge total but New Zealand bounced back as wickets at regular intervals derailed England. Despite that, Jos Buttler's 73 runs off 47 balls helped his side finish at 179/6.
Chasing which, the Blackcaps didn't have the best of starts as they lost both their openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway by the 5th over. Skipper Kane Williamson with a run-a-ball 40 and an in-form Glenn Phillips with a fiery 62 helped New Zealand regain some momentum but they could eventually reach 159/6.
England's win means that Group 1 is still not decided with the top 3 teams tied at 5 points each.

With rain playing spoilsport at this year's ICC T20 World Cup 2022, with four matches abandoned due to inclement weather already, former England captain Michael Vaughan has criticised ICC for not having enough countermeasures in place.

They lost to Ireland by 5 runs on DLS when the rain didn't allow a full 20-overs-per-side contest.
Vaughan in a series of tweets blasted the ICC for their lack of adequate arrangements. The 48-year-old asked why the ICC couldn't have utilised the Docklands stadium for such a scenario, where there's a roof that can be closed when it rains.
Vaughan also compared similar situations in Sri Lanka where the ground was fully covered during rains and games resumed quickly when it&rsquo;d stop raining.
England captain Jos Buttler though was a lot more subdued with his take on the whole issue. Buttler said that since the playing conditions weren't safe, it was the right decision to call the game off as players' safety was more important.
Buttler said since cricket is played under the influence of natural elements, they can't really complain about the weather as it influences how the game conditions are and that's what makes the sport unique.
England will next face New Zealand on November 1 at the Gabba.

Jos Buttler's captaincy stint may not have gotten to the best of starts but their recent series wins against Pakistan &amp; Australia have come as a big boost for the Three Lions going into the T20 World Cup.

The ODI Champions of the World, England, are one of the favourites to lift the coveted T20 World Cup title in Australia. Having won the 50-over World Cup as hosts back in 2019, the Three Lions will become the first side to hold both the limited-overs World Cups if they manage to win the trophy Down Under.
Having last won the T20 World Cup back in 2010, England will be hoping to recreate the magic at the marquee event. They have got a new leader in Jos Buttler, who had a rocky start to his full-time captaincy career but their recent series wins against Pakistan &amp; Australia show they are heading in the right direction. England's white-ball captain Jos Buttler gave his opinion on how will the Three Lions fair out in T20 World Cup 2022, due to start in Australia on October 16.
The 32-year-old feels that England is undoubtedly a dangerous team but does not see them as the favourites coming into the tournament. Despite England recently winning their 7-match home series against Pakistan 4-3, Buttler feels that his team has certainly got the talent and some proper match winners but are looking to simply enjoy their cricket in the tournament.
"To be a captain in a World Cup is a very proud moment. Above all else I want to really enjoy it, I want to not try and put too much pressure on myself or the team and just encourage everyone to enjoy the opportunity," added the skipper

Chasing a mammoth 216-run target, opener Rishabh Pant went back to the pavilion for just one run. The visitors then lost Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in quick succession.
Against the run of play, Suryakumar and Shreyas Iyer stitched together a 119-run stand for the 4th wicket. After the dismissal of Iyer, Surya continued to find the boundaries despite wickets tumbling at the other end.
