The Maharashtra government has already ordered a probe by a special investigation team (SIT) into the alleged murder.

The Maharashtra government on Sunday a financial aid of Rs 25 lakh will be given to the kin of journalist Shashikant Warishe who was mowed down by an SUV allegedly driven by a land dealer in Ratnagiri district.
The government will also give a permanent job to the son of the deceased, Ratnagiri district guardian minister Uday Samant said.
"A financial aid of Rs 25 lakh will be provided to journalist Warishe's family. Rs 10 lakh will be given from the chief minister's relief fund and Rs 15 lakh from other sources," Samant told reporters.

He said various organisations of journalists have been demanding that the government help the family of Warishe comprising his grandmother and son.
Warishe (48) was mowed down by an SUV allegedly driven by land dealer Pandharinath Amberkar at Rajapur, some 440 km from Mumbai, on February 6. He died in the hospital the next day.
Amberkar, arrested for murder, allegedly used to threaten any person who opposed land acquisition for a proposed refinery in the area.
An article written by Warishe against Amberkar had appeared in a local Marathi newspaper on the morning of the incident.

Madhya Pradesh police have registered a case of forgery and public mischief under various sections of IPC and the IT Act against three journalists over a news report on a man who was forced to take his ill father to hospital on a pushcart in Bhind in the absence of an ambulance. 

An investigation committee formed by the district administration comprising officers from the revenue and health departments claimed that Gaya Prasad's son Puran Singh did not call for an ambulance.&nbsp;

Following a complaint filed by the health department's <a href="editorji.com/india-news/rajiv-gandhi-assassination-convict-nalini-moves-sc-seeking-early-release-1660282685178">Medical Officer Rajiv Kaurav</a>, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered on August 18 against journalists Kunjbihari Kaurav, Anil Sharma and NK Bhatele, Daboh police station's head constable Kamlesh Kumar said on Monday.
They have been booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 420 (forgery) and 505 (public mischief) and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, he said.
As per the FIR, the complainant said these journalists published and aired a news on August 15 that the family of Gaya Prasad (76) had to take him on a handcart as an ambulance was not made available to them and the victim did not receive the benefits of government schemes.
After publication and broadcast of the news, the district administration constituted a committee of revenue and health officials for an inquiry into the news report, the FIR said.
The committee found the news report to be false as Gaya Prasad's son Puran Singh said they did not call for the ambulance and his father and family have been getting the benefits of government schemes, like old age pension, according to the FIR.
Besides, the family had taken Gaya Prasad to a private hospital and not to a government hospital, the FIR said.
However, the elderly man&rsquo;s son Harikrishna and daughter Pushpa alleged that they had to push the cart for about 5 kilometres after not getting an ambulance despite calling for it, reported Scroll.in.

Anil Sharma, who works for a news channel, alleged that the district administration pressurised Gaya Prasad's family members by threatening them of stopping the welfare scheme benefits they are eligible for.
The FIR was filed on the false ground, he claimed.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/local/islamisation-of-jharkhand-need-president-s-rule-bjp-mp-on-friday-school-holiday-controversy-1659951029384">MP Assembly Dr Govind Singh</a> also alleged that the district administration pressured Gaya Prasad's family to make false statements against the journalists.
This is an act of suppressing the media's voice and the Congress will fight to ensure justice for these journalists, he said.

The ruling BJP's state working committee member Ramesh Dubey also condemned the act of registration of the FIR against the journalists and demanded action against the erring officials.
Bhind district Collector Sathish Kumar S could not be contacted for reaction in the matter.

When he fell unconscious due to police beating, he was admitted to Balasore district hospital, where his leg was cuffed with his bed by a policeman guarding him.
The incident came to light on Thursday after a video showing him leg-cuffed went viral on social media and was reported by news channels. His leg cuff was removed and he was later released from the hospital after the news spread across the state.
Balasore SP S S Mishra told reporters that the matter will be investigated by a Deputy Superintendent of Police-rank officer, and strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
The incident has triggered a massive outcry with Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan alleging that this was not the first such happening and earlier also, several Odisha journalists were harassed.
Balasore's BJP MP Pratap Sarangi, who spoke to the SP, condemned the incident and demanded strong action against the guilty.
