Bengaluru Police has summoned BJP President J P Nadda and the party's IT cell head Amit Malviya in connection with a social media post allegedly intimidating members of SC and ST community not to vote for a particular candidate, officials said on Wednesday.
They have been asked to join the probe at the High grounds police station here.
&ldquo;For the purpose of investigation of the said case, you are hereby directed to appear before the undersigned investigation officer at 11 am at High grounds police station within seven days of receipt of this notice,&rdquo; the summons read.
The move comes after an FIR was registered against Nadda, Malviya and BJP's Karnataka unit chief B Y Vijayendra in connection with a social media following a complaint filed by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) with the Election Commission and police on May 5 alleging violation of model code of conduct.
They were booked under sections of Representation of People Act and section 505 (2) (Statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) of the Indian Penal Code, a senior police officer said.
In the complaint, the KPCC cited the video uploaded on social media platform 'X' by the official account of Karnataka State BJP which, it alleged, is operated by Malviya, on instructions of Nadda and Vijayendra, BJP State President and Social Media incharge- Karnataka BJP, on May 4.
"The said video posted on social media featured animated characters of (Congress leader) Rahul Gandhi and (Chief Minister) Siddaramaiah. In the clip, SC, ST and OBC community are portrayed as "eggs" in a nest and it also suggested Rahul Gandhi planting a big egg labelled as Muslim community. It is projected as though funds are being fed to the chick depicting the Muslim community, which then kicks out SC, ST and OBC community," it alleged.
"The act of the accused person (s) is to wantonly provoke rioting and promote enmity between different religions and is prejudicial to maintenance of harmony apart from intimidating members of SC/ST community not to vote for particular candidate and causing enmity against members of SC/ST community," the complaint alleged.&nbsp;

Ten BJP MPs have resigned from the membership of the Parliament after winning the Assembly elections.
As per reports, the decision was taken after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief JP Nadda.
Those who have resigned include Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Joshi, Prahlad Singh Patel, Rakesh Singh, Uday Pratap and Riti Pathak from Madhya Pradesh; Arun Sao and Gomati Sai from Chhattisgarh and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Diya Kumari and Kirodi Lal Meena from Rajasthan.
As per reports, two other MPs, Union Minister Renuka Singh and Mahant Balaknath, are also expected to resign from the Lok Sabha.

In a series of tweets amid a political fight between the BJP and the Congress following Gandhi's conviction in a defamation case over the "Modi surname" remarks, Nadda alleged that "lies, personal slander and negative politics is integral" to his politics.
People's "punishment" to him will be more severe in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls than in 2019 when he lost in Amethi and the Congress was routed nationally, the BJP leader said.
He said, "By comparing OBC communities to thieves, Rahul Gandhi has shown a pathetic and casteist mindset. However, his latest tirade is not surprising. For the last many years, he has always reduced levels of political discourse." Nadda said he repeatedly ignored suggestions from the court and the community to tender an apology for his comments. The entire Other Backward Classes will avenge this insult in a democratic manner, the BJP president said.
"He repeatedly hurt the sentiments of the OBCs. The Surat court has convicted him for his objectionable comments against the community. But Rahul Gandhi and the Congress stuck to those remarks due to their arrogance," Nadda said.
As the "newly minted" Congress president, Gandhi's core issue for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls was the "cooked-up Rafale scam", he said.
"His negative politics and cooked-up Rafale scam faced a setback in the court of law. Our highest court of the land, the Honourable Supreme Court gave a very clear verdict on the Rafale issue and did not believe the corruption bogey Gandhi raised," he added.
Targeting the Congress leader, he said Gandhi was also pulled up by the Supreme Court for his misleading claims on the Rafale issue and had to tender an unconditional apology for his fabricated allegations.
Gandhi also resorted to raising the "chowkidar chor hai" slogan despite objections from senior leaders within his party, the BJP president said citing media reports.
He went on ranting against PM Narendra Modi even if it meant he was defeated in his own seat (Amethi) and his party got wiped out nationally, the BJP president said.
"Now, Rahul Gandhi calls the entire OBC community thieves. He gets flak in the courts but he refuses to apologise thus showing how deep-rooted his hatred for OBCs is. The people of India did not forgive him in 2019. In 2024 the punishment will be more severe," he said.&nbsp;

The BJP central leadership cautioned the party's national vice-president Dilip Ghosh over his recent remarks questioning CBI's impartiality and asked him to refrain from making such controversial remarks in future.
Ghosh had recently stirred a hornet's nest by claiming that some CBI officers were hand in glove with the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.
Continuing his tirade against the central investigating agency, Ghosh on Monday wondered what action CBI has taken in the post-poll violence in which he alleged around 60 BJP workers were killed in West Bengal after the Assembly elections last year.
"Yesterday, I got a call from our party’s national president J P Nadda. He wanted to know why I made such a remark. I explained my position. I was asked not to make such comments in future," Ghosh told PTI on Tuesday.
Embarrassed by his remarks, the state BJP unit, which swears by the impartiality of the CBI, had reported the matter to the party's top brass.
The state leadership had said that Ghosh made those remarks in his personal capacity and those are not the party's official position.
"Whatever Dilip Ghosh has said, it is his viewpoint. We have nothing to say on it," BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said.
On Sunday, Ghosh had said certain CBI officers had a "setting" with the Trinamool Congress and because of this, the Finance Ministry had sent the ED to probe the corruption cases in West Bengal and speed up investigations.
The CBI, which functions under the PMO, arrested TMC Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal on August 11 for allegedly not cooperating with the agency in its probe into a cattle smuggling case. It has also made a number of arrests as part of its probe into the Bogtui killings in Birbhum district where a family was burnt alive in an apparent revenge attack in March this year.
Partha Chatterjee, the now suspended senior TMC leader, and his alleged close aide Arpita Mukherjee were arrested on July 23 by the ED in connection with the school recruitment scam.

In a big surprise ahead of state elections next year, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb submitted his resignation to the Governor on May 14. Deb was accompanied by Union minister and senior BJP leader Bhupender Yadav.
The development came days after Deb met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda in Delhi. Tripura is slated to go to polls in 2023.

BJP changes Tripura CM: Biplab Deb quits, days after meeting Amit Shah, JP Nadda in Delhi; state elections slated in 2023


Tripura: Biplab Deb, accompanied by Union minister Bhupendra Yadav, submitted his resignation as CM to the Governor on May 14.

In a big surprise ahead of state elections next year, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb submitted his resignation to the Governor on May 14. Deb was accompanied by Union minister and senior BJP leader Bhupender Yadav.
The development came days after Deb met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda in Delhi. Tripura is slated to go to polls in 2023.
The development comes amid reports of infighting in the BJP's Tripura unit. Biplab Deb was crowned Chief Minister in 2018 after the BJP defeated the Left Front, ending its 25-year rule in the northeast state.

Multiple tweets were posted from BJP president J P Nadda's account on the Ukraine crisis and also on crypto currency issues on Sunday, in another case of hacking of a prominent public figure's Twitter account.
BJP sources said Nadaa's account was compromised briefly.
"It is now under control. We are speaking with Twitter to ascertain the exact reason," a party leader said.
One tweet from Nadda's account solicited donations to help Ukraine and another sought to help Russia.
"Now accepting crypto currency donations," it added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Twitter account was also hacked briefly in December last year, and message related to Bitcoin was posted.
Some other handles, including those of government departments, were recently hacked as well.

In another case of hacking of a prominent public figure's Twitter account, multiple tweets were posted from BJP president J P Nadda's account on the Ukraine crisis and also on crypto currency issues on Sunday. BJP sources said Nadaa's account was compromised briefly and the saffron party spoke with Twitter to ascertain the exact reason.
One tweet from Nadda's account solicited donations to help Ukraine and another sought to help Russia.
