Rishab Shetty, renowned for his role in 'Kantara,' voiced his discontent at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), lamenting the lack of support from major OTT platforms for Kannada cinema. He emphasized that the refusal to include Kannada movies is a concerning and discouraging trend in the industry.
&lsquo;OTT platforms are not open to the Kannada film industry. That is a very bad sign. They say there are no subscribers here, they are looking into the matter and thinking. Two production houses were actively working during Corona, Rakshit Shetty&rsquo;s Paramvah Studios and my Rishab Shetty films, and apart from that, some production houses were also making films, and we are actively doing film festivals, but they are not taking the films,&rsquo; Rishab Shetty said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
In addition, the actor appealed to IFFI for assistance in garnering recognition for Kannada films. He highlighted the importance of acknowledging movies with limited theatrical exposure and advocating for their inclusion on OTT platforms to ensure wider reach and recognition.

Rishab Shetty is currently working on &lsquo;Kantara 2&rsquo;, which is officially titled &lsquo;Kantara: Chapter 1&rsquo;. The first look of the much-awaited movie was recently revealed in which the actor was seen soaked in blood.
The shooting of the film is currently progressing at a brisk pace.

Kerala High Court has stayed the FIR filed against ‘Kantara’ distributor Prithviraj Sukumaran in connection with the alleged copyright infringement of the song 'Varaharoopam' from the Kannada movie.

Kerala High Court has stayed the FIR filed against &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo; distributor Prithviraj Sukumaran in connection with the alleged copyright infringement of the song 'Varaharoopam' from the Kannada movie. Prithviraj was the distributor of the film in Kerala. FIR was registered on a complaint filed by Mathrubhumi Printing and Publishing Co. Ltd.
The court observed that Prithviraj, who is the only distributor of the film in Kerala, was unnecessarily being dragged into and initiated copyright infringement proceedings against him.
As per Indian Express report, the Single Bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas observed, 'As a mere distributor of the film in Kerala, the actor was unnecessarily being dragged into and that initiating copyright infringement proceedings against him was stretching it too far. Prima facie, I am satisfied that the petitioner as a distributor of a movie cannot be mulcted with infringement of copyright merely for distributing a movie in one of the states in the country.'
'As a director of the Company Prithviraj Productions Private Limited, merely facilitated the distribution of the film in Kerala and was not involved in the production of the film or in the making of its music in any capacity. The company stopped the distribution of the film on 04.11.2022. The role of his company as a distributor of the film is limited to acting as an intermediary that distributes the films through theatres after obtaining distribution rights from the producer,' the statement concluded.
The stay was on a petition filed by Prithviraj for discontinuation of the FIR registered against him at the Kozhikode Town Police Station.

&lsquo;Kantara&rsquo;s actor-director Rishab Shetty and its producer, Vijay Krigandur Ahad, appeared before Kozhikode Deputy Commissioner of Police, K.E. Baiju, on Sunday after the Supreme Court granted anticipatory bail to them on February 9. They have given their statements before the police after a complaint was filed by the Kerala-based music band Thaikoodam Bridge claiming that a song in the movie was a product of the band and that the makers did not acknowledge that.
The band said the song &lsquo;Varaha Roopam&rsquo; was actually plagiarised from their song &lsquo;Navarasam&rsquo;. However, &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo;s music director B. Ajaneesh Loknath rejected the allegations stating that the similarities were due to the same &lsquo;Raga&rsquo; used in both songs.

Its Hindi version started streaming on OTT giant Netflix on December 9.
&lsquo;Kantara&rsquo; was originally released in Kannada with dubbed versions in Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, and Tamil hitting the theatres two weeks later. The film has grossed over ₹400 crores worldwide.
Prabhas, Rajinikanth, Kangana Ranaut, and Varun Dhawan are among many others who have praised the film. Rishab Shetty has reportedly started work on &lsquo;Kantara 2&rsquo;.

Google released its most searched movies of 2022, and ‘Brahmastra dominates the list. It was followed by ‘KGF: Chapter 2’, ‘RRR’, ‘Kantara’, and ‘The Kashmir Files’.

South films dominated the list as just four Hindi films ranked in the top ten while five from the South. 

Google released its most searched movies of 2022, and &lsquo;Brahmastra dominates the list. It was followed by &lsquo;KGF: Chapter 2&rsquo;, &lsquo;RRR&rsquo;, &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo;, and &lsquo;The Kashmir Files&rsquo;.

Search engine Google has unveiled the top-searched movies of 2022. &lsquo;Brahmastra Part One- Shiva' is the most searched film of the year, leaving behind &lsquo;KGF: Chapter 2&rsquo;, &lsquo;RRR&rsquo;, &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo;, and &lsquo;The Kashmir Files&rsquo;, though it wasn&rsquo;t the most commercially successful Indian film of the year. &nbsp;
<a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/bollywood/brahmastra-becomes-most-watched-film-on-disney-hotstar-in-india-here-s-what-ranbir-kapoor-said-1670253047075">&lsquo;Brahmastra&rsquo;</a>, which earned Rs 400 crore, featured Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Mouni Roy, along with extended cameos from Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Nagarjuna.
&lsquo;KGF 2&rsquo;, the highest-grossing Indian film of the year, gains the second spot in the list. It earned approximately Rs 1200 crore. This was followed by Vivek Agnihotri&rsquo;s &lsquo;The Kashmir Files&rsquo;. &nbsp;
The next four spots were taken by the South film industry with &lsquo;RRR&rsquo;, &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo;, &lsquo;Pushpa: The Rise&rsquo; and &lsquo;Vikram&rsquo; making it to the list. &nbsp;
South films dominated the chart as just four Hindi films ranked in the top ten while five were from the South. Other Bollywood films that people searced for are Aamir Khan&rsquo;s &lsquo;Laal Singh Chaddha&rsquo; and Ajay Devgn&rsquo;s &lsquo;Drishyam 2&rsquo;. &nbsp;
The only Hollywood film that managed to get a spot in the list of most googled films of 2022 in India is Marvel&rsquo;s &lsquo;Thor: Love and Thunder&rsquo;. &nbsp;

Actor-director Rishab Shetty&rsquo;s &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo; has been in the headlines following plagiarism allegations by the Kerala music band Thaikkudam Bridge. In October, the band pointed out that the song &lsquo;Varaha Roopam&rsquo; from the film was a copy of their song, &lsquo;Navarasam&rsquo; and had eventually moved to court against the makers.
The latest update now is that the plaints filed by Mathrubhumi Printing and Publishing Company Ltd (MPPCL) against the film's producer Hombale Films in Kozhikode as well as Palakkad district courts have been returned. Rishab Shetty also tweeted about it.
As per a report by Live Law, the plaint filed in Kozhikode court was returned on the ground that it has to be presented before the Commercial Court. In the case of the second plaint, the Palakkad court returned the plaint citing a lack of jurisdiction. It observed that the suit has to be filed before Kozhikode District Court as the registered office of MPPCL was in Kozhikode.
Sharing the news on Twitter, Rishab wrote in Kannada that they have won the Varaharoopam case with the blessings of the Gods and the love of the people. He added that they are going to change the song on the OTT platform very soon considering people's requests.

Kozhikode District Court has lifted the ban against 'Varaha Roopam' due to lack of jurisdiction.

'Kantara' has been making headlines ever since its release. The Rishab Shetty directorial has received immense love from the audience as well as the critics and it has grossed over ₹400 cr worldwide. Now, the film's lyricist Shashiraj Kavoor took to Facebook and claimed victory in one of the 'Varaha Roopam' plagiarism cases.
Kozhikode District Court has lifted the ban against 'Varaha Roopam' due to lack of jurisdiction. Shashiraj said that the court dismisses the plea filed by Kerala-based band 'Thaikkudam Bridge'. 'Honourable high court of Kerala directed team Kanthara, to seek relief from the lower court ( original jurisdiction). Today Lower court, after hearing both parties, dismissed application of thaikodam bridge and accordingly stay granted against the varaaha roopam has been vacated.. Justice Prevailed. Jai Tulunadu', he wrote.
Kerala-based music band 'Thaikkudam Bridge' had accused the makers of 'Kantara' of plagiarism. They claimed that the song 'Varaha Roopam' which featured in the movie was copied from their song 'Navarasam'. Based on the plea, a Kozhikode court had passed an order to remove 'Varaha Roopam' from theatres and all OTT platforms.
The producers of the film then appealed in the Kerala High Court seeking relief from the order imposed by the Kozhikode District Court.
Speaking with news channel Dighvijay News, Shashiraj said that the honorable court has dismissed Thaikkudam Bridge&rsquo;s plea after examining the evidence. This is the first victory for the team in this case. There is also another plea filed in the Palakkad sessions court by the Mathrubhumi Group against them.

Rishab Shetty&rsquo;s &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo; made headlines recently after Kerala-based band Thaikkudam Bridge alleged that the song &lsquo;Varaha Roopam&rsquo; from the film was plagiarised from their song &lsquo;Navarasam&rsquo;. They even sought legal action against the song. The film was released on the OTT platform Prime Video on Thursday, November 24. Now, Thaikkudam Bridge took to their Facebook page and announced that &lsquo;Varaha Roopam&rsquo; has been removed from the film by Prime Video.

However, fans of the Rishab Shetty-starrer are disappointed as &lsquo;Varaha Roopam&rsquo; has been removed. Soon, the hashtag, #BringBackVarahaRoopam trended on Twitter with many pointing out that without the song, the film looks soul-less.

Actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty is currently basking in the success of his latest release &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo;. In a recent interview, he revealed that he shot for the intense action sequence in the climax with both his shoulders dislocated.
In a conversation with IMDB, Rishab opened up about the scene and mentioned that the sequence was very difficult because it was a single shot with 360-degree shots and a rain effect. &lsquo;And it was difficult to carry water to that place. So, we asked villagers over there if we could draw water from the well there. The shoot went on for 6 to 7 days and we used the water from there. By the time, the shoot ended, the well&rsquo;s water had finished. It was pretty hectic,&rsquo; he said.
&lsquo;While rehearsing for that scene, I had an issue with my shoulder. During one 360 degree shot, I dislocated my shoulder. While shooting another sequence the next day, I dislocated the other shoulder too. Both my shoulders were dislocated but I continued to shoot,&rsquo; he added.

Rishab Sheety attributes this success to the film&rsquo;s packaging which is deeply connected with the culture culture of Karnataka. &nbsp;He also thinks that Bollywood is losing out now-a-days due to 'too much western influence'. Speaking with Hindustan Times, the actor/director said that more regional is more universal. But now, too much western influence and consumption of Hollywood and other content has led to filmmakers trying to do the same in India'. He further said that 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', 'The Kashmir Files', 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2', 'Brahmastra' were successful because they have had a strong connect with Indian ethos.
'Kantara', also stars Sapthami Gowda, Kishore, and Achyuth Kumar,in pivotal roles and has earned over ₹325 crore at the box office globally. The Hindi versions along with other dubbed versions, released two weeks after the Kannada original, and has also done &nbsp;pretty well with the Hindi version alone collectiong ₹53 crore, making it one of the most cost effective Indian films of the year.

Varun also added that it's 'the best thing for Indian films to grow&rsquo; and they should work towards making Indian cinema as a whole shine.
 Speaking with India Today, Varun Dhawan said &lsquo;Indian films are doing really well&hellip; If Kantara is doing really well or KGF 2 or Vikram, we should seek inspiration from these films and try and work with each other. It&rsquo;s the best thing for Indian films to grow right now. I know it sounds really easy right now because the Hindi films are getting their a** kicked right now. So maybe it&rsquo;s a great time and easy answer for me to say that. I have always wanted to do films in Telugu, Tamil, and Bhediya is going to release in Telugu and Tamil as well.&rsquo;
 Varun also told that it is a good time to be collaborative. He said, &lsquo;I don't know why people forget that KGF 2 also had Raveena Tandon and Sanjay Dutt in it. Why do you forget that as well? They are also loved over there and we also love all the actors from there. I just seek inspiration... I think Allu Arjun is amazing and Yash has done great with KGF. Even now, if you see, Kantara, the way the film has been written, directed and acted by the same person, Rishab Shetty. People can divide us, but we are one country and it is a good time to be collaborative because cinema, in general, we are going through a big transition all over.&rsquo;
