The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to shift journalist Siddique Kappan to All India Institute of Medical Sciences any other government hospital in New Delhi for treatment. The court was hearing an application filed by the Kerala Union of Working Journalists, which said Kappan had collapsed in a bathroom at Mathura jail, and later tested positive for Covid-19.Kappan, who suffers from diabetes and heart ailments is being treated at Mathura Medical College Hospital.
The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana, said Kappan would be sent back to Mathura jail after he recovers from the disease.In court, the UP government opposed allowing Kappan to seek treatment outside the state, saying other inmates were being treated in state hospitals

FIR under anti-terror law against journalist arrested enroute Hathras

A journalist from Kerala and three others have been charged under the stringent anti-terror law UAPA, and sedition by the Uttar Pradesh&nbsp;police after they were arrested on their way to&nbsp;Hathras earlier this week.&nbsp;
In a statement issued after the 4 people were arrested on Monday, the UP Police said that they arrested journalist&nbsp;Siddique Kappan, Atiq-ur Rehman,&nbsp;Masood Ahmed and Alam&nbsp;after a tip-off that&nbsp;&nbsp;"suspicious people" were on their way to Hathras from Delhi. The police also claimed that the 4 men had mentioned during questioning that they had links to Popular Front of India and its affiliate.&nbsp;
Kappan&nbsp;is a&nbsp;contributor for a popular Kerala-based website and is also the secretary of the Delhi unit of Kerala Union of Working Journalists.
