Six passengers and the pilot had a close shave after a helicopter went into a tailspin while trying to make an emergency landing near the Kedarnath helipad.
According to reports, the copter had developed a technical glitch in its rear motor, forcing it to make an emergency landing, approximately 100 metres from the helipad.
According to officials, a hydraulic failure issue caused the helicopter to spin uncontrollably.
Rudraprayag District Magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar said the helicopter took off from the Sirsi helipad for Kedarnath early on Friday, reports PTI news agenncy.
It developed a technical snag in its rear motor, prompting the pilot to make an emergency landing a few metres from the helipad in Kedarnath, he said citing preliminary reports.
The pilot kept his cool and took a quick decision, averting a major mishap, Gaharwar said.
Everyone is safe and the pilgrims have even returned after having "darshan" at the temple, he added.
The incident occurred around 7 am and further investigations are underway, Gaharwar said

It is reportedly used by pilgrims returning from Badrinath, and passes through the main market in Joshimath.

The threat of land subsidence continues to haunt Uttarakhand with fresh cracks being reported, this time on a key highway.
Fissures have now developed on a stretch of road along the Badrinath highway, amid preparations for the Char Dham Yatra, and announcement of dates for opening of portals of the Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri shrines.
Cracks have appeared on the road between Joshimath and Marwari, according to reports.
It is reportedly used by pilgrims returning from Badrinath, and passes through the main market in Joshimath, which has seen damage to hundreds of houses, and displacement of dozens of families due to sinking of land.

Himachal Pradesh witnessed light to moderate snowfall on Friday while intermittent rains occurred across the state under the influence of western disturbances, leading to the closure of 278 roads.
Jalori Jot and Rohtang Pass in Kullu received 60 and 45 cm of snow respectively while the south portal of the Atal Tunnel and Chansel each witnessed 30 cm of snowfall.
Chaurdhar and Dodrakwar recorded 25 cm of snow, Khadrala 16 cm and Jakho peak in Shimla and adjoining areas of Kufri received three to 10 cm of snow. Manali, Gohar and Tinder received 16 mm, 11 mm and 8.3 mm of rain followed by Nahan and Bhuntar each logging 5.7 mm of rainfall.
National Highway 3 and 305 were blocked at Rohtang Pass and Jalori Pass while the Gramphu to Lossar stretch of NH 505 was also closed. As many as 177 roads were closed for vehicular traffic in Lahaul and Spiti, 64 in Shimla, nine in Kinnaur, five in Chamba, three in Kullu and two each in Kangra and Sirmaur districts.
The local meteorological office has predicted a wet spell in the region till January 26 with light rain and snow at isolated places on January 21 and 22 and light to moderate snow at many places in mid and high hills on January 23.
The wet weather brought cheers to tourists and hoteliers as well as apple growers pinning their hope bumper produce. &nbsp;President of Tourism Industry Stakeholders' Association M K Seth said the occupancy in hotels is expected to rise from 30 to over 70 per cent by late Friday evening following fresh snowfall in the state capital and its suburbs.
Snowfall and rain have been witnessed in several parts of Uttarakhand including the holy shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath and Gangotri.
Other snowfall-affected areas include subsidence-hit Joshimath, which has reportedly added to the woes of people living in temporary relief camps.

&nbsp;A section of priests in Kedarnath have opposed the gold plating of the walls inside the sanctum sanctorum of the Himalayan temple saying it amounted to tampering with its centuries-old traditions.
Pilgrimage priests (teerth purohits) opposing the gold plating are incensed that the use of big drilling machines in the process are damaging the temple's walls.
The four walls of the famed temple were covered with silver plates which have been removed to replace them with gold plates.
The gold plating of the temple's walls is being done after a Shiva devotee from Maharashtra volunteered to make an offering of gold for the purpose and his proposal was accepted by the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee with permission from the state government.
The gold plating is damaging the temple walls. Big drilling machines are being used for the purpose. We cannot tolerate this tampering with the centuries old traditions of the temple," a pilgrimage priest named Santosh Trivedi said in Kedarnath.
However, the priests are divided on the issue with some senior priests favouring the renovation work currently underway inside the temple's sanctum sanctorum.
Senior priest at the temple Shrinivas Posti and former president of Kedar Sabha Mahesh Bagwadi said the temple is a major centre of Sanatan faith and gold plating of its walls is in keeping with the Hindu beliefs and traditions. Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee president Ajendra Ajay said opposition to the the gold plating of the temple walls is not justified as it is being done in accordance with the traditions without tampering with the original structure.
"Renovation and beautification of the temple from time to time is a normal practice. A handful of priests may oppose it but their representative bodies never opposed it. Decades ago the temple ceiling used to be made of grass and twigs. As the times changed it began to be made of stones and later of copper sheets," he said.&nbsp;

On 29 June, a woman was killed and 5 other people were injured in a landslide on Kedarnath road. The mishap took place near Sonprayag on the Rudraprayag-Gaurikund National Highway, as per reports.
The landslide hit a vehicle with 11 passengers. The victims had been returning from Kedarnath.

When plastic garbage covers religious places, then national and international tourists and pilgrims will be affected."
Prof MC Nautiyal, director of HAPPRC at the university told ANI, "Tourism pressure on Kedarnath, Badrinath etc has increased a lot. If tourist pressure increases, then throughout the route, plastic and other types of garbage builds up. It can be taken to deeper forest areas by natural elements. There aren't any proper sanitation facilities there. That's why waste usually ends up in nature."
