According to the prosecution, several persons forced their way into the vehicle on the night of February 17, 2017 and later escaped in a busy area.
The ten accused who faced trial are Sunil NS alias Pulsar Suni, Martin Antony, Manikandan B, Vijesh V P, Salim H, Pradeep, Charly Thomas, actor Dileep (real name P Gopalakrishnan), Sanil Kumar alias Mesthri Sanil, and Sharath.Police arrested the accused soon after the incident and filed the first charge sheet against seven persons in April 2017.
During further investigation, Dileep was arrested on July 10, 2017 after the probe team found that the prime accused, Suni, had allegedly sent a letter to him from jail.Dileep was granted bail on October 3, 2017.&nbsp;

"A UK F-35B aircraft, which landed following an emergency diversion on June 14, departed today from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. A UK engineering team, deployed since July 06 completed the repairs and safety checks, allowing the aircraft to resume active service," a British High Commission spokesperson said.
In a statement, the spokesperson said the UK remains very grateful for the support and collaboration of the Indian authorities and airport teams throughout the repair and recovery process.
"We look forward to continuing to strengthen our defence partnership with India," the statement said.
The jet was brought out of the hangar and kept at the airport bay on Monday.
The British Royal Navy F-35B Lightning fighter jet is part of the UK's most advanced stealth fleet.
Known to be one of the most advanced fighter aircraft in the world and worth over USD 110 million, the jet remained grounded at the international airport here since June 14 after it developed a technical snag.
The aircraft, which took off from HMS Prince of Wales on 14 June, was unable to return to the carrier due to adverse weather conditions.
Prioritising safety, it diverted to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, where it landed safely.
Subsequently, the aircraft developed an engineering issue whilst on the ground, which temporarily delayed its return to the Carrier Strike Group.
Engineers from HMS Prince of Wales assessed the aircraft and determined that the support of a UK-based engineering team was required.
The UK accepted India's offer to move the aircraft to the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility.
To ensure minimal disruption to regular airport operations, it was decided that the aircraft would be moved once the UK engineering teams arrived with specialist equipment.

Former Kerala Chief Minister and veteran CPI(M) leader V S Achuthanandan, one of India's most respected Communist figures and a key presence in Kerala's political history, died on Monday at the age of 101, CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan said.
The veteran leader passed away at 3.20 pm while undergoing treatment in the critical care unit of Pattom SUT Hospital, according to an official bulletin issued by the hospital.
Achuthanandan had been receiving treatment since June 23, following a cardiac arrest.
A founding member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Achuthanandan was a lifelong champion of workers' rights, land reforms, and social justice.
He served as Kerala's Chief Minister from 2006 to 2011 and was elected to the state assembly seven times, serving three terms as Leader of the Opposition.
Speaking to reporters at the hospital, Govindan said Achuthanandan's body would be shifted to the AKG Study and Research Centre in Thiruvananthapuram within an hour, where party workers and the public could pay their respects.
Later tonight, the mortal remains will be taken to his house here. On Tuesday morning, the body will be kept at the Durbar Hall for the public to pay homage.
Afterwards, the body will be transported to his hometown, Alappuzha, on Tuesday afternoon.
"We expect to reach there by night," Govindan said, adding that people may gather along the way to catch a final glimpse of their beloved leader.
After a brief stop at the party's district headquarters in Alappuzha, Achuthanandan's cremation will take place at the public crematorium in Alappuzha Valiya Chudukadu by Wednesday noon.
Earlier in the day, following reports of his deteriorating health, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and CPI(M) leaders rushed to the hospital.
Born on October 20, 1923 in Punnapra, a coastal village in Alappuzha district, Achuthanandan's early life was marked by hardship and poverty.
He lost his mother at the age of four and his father while still in school, forcing him to abandon his studies after Class VII. He briefly worked in a textile shop and later as a labourer in a coir factory.
His political journey began in the 1940s, inspired by legendary Communist leader P Krishna Pillai.
In 1943, he represented Alappuzha at the Communist Party conference.
During the 1946 Punnapra-Vayalar uprising, he went underground and was later arrested and severely beaten. Believed to be dead by the police, he was about to be buried in the forest when it was discovered he was still alive and taken to the hospital.
Despite being tortured during the 1946 uprising, he returned to political activism. In 1956, he joined the party's state committee and steadily rose to hold key national positions.
In 1964, he was among the 32 national council members who split from the Communist Party to form the CPI(M), a pivotal moment in Indian Left politics.
He joined the party's central committee the same year and was inducted into the Politburo in 1985.
Achuthanandan became known for his integrity, sharp speeches in colloquial Malayalam, and firm stance against corruption, land grabs, and misuse of power.
Even in his later years, he remained immensely popular and widely respected for his dedication to ordinary people.
He built a reputation as a straight-talking, no-nonsense leader who consistently raised his voice on public issues--from environmental protection to women's rights.
At one point, he was removed from the Politburo for publicly criticising the party&rsquo;s official line. For Achuthanandan, ideology was not something he simply believed in--it was something he had lived through.
When the Left Democratic Front returned to power, he was denied the Chief Minister&rsquo;s post. The party, citing internal decisions, accused him of a "factionalist mindset" and chose Pinarayi Vijayan instead.

Local residents say they believe new landslides have occurred in the hills, particularly uphill near Punchirimattam inside forested areas. However, officials say there has been no confirmation so far.
"We have no confirmation of new landslides inside the forest, uphill Punchirimattam," the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) said.
"The loose debris from previous events is coming down with the rain. This will likely continue for some time until all eroded materials are washed off," it said.
Residents remain anxious, remembering the July 2024 disaster that flattened homes, injured dozens, and left hundreds without shelter.
District administration officials say the flash flooding is a result of widespread rain in the hills.
However, they maintain that there is no immediate danger and are monitoring the situation closely.
Further downstream, the Kabani river has also seen rising water levels at Mananthavady and Panamaram.

The Raj Bhavan had since informed the government that it will not be repeated at public functions, which has now been violated again, Govindan alleged.
The Raj Bhavan had later issued a statement criticising Sivankutty's action, terming it as violation of protocol and a 'grave insult' to the office of the Governor.
On the Nilambur assembly by-election held on Thursday, he said the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) will register a big win despite the &lsquo;negative campaign&rsquo; taken up by the Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF).
&ldquo;There will be an explosion in the UDF after the by-poll results,&rdquo; Govindan said.
The LDF could make significant gains through its political campaign exposing the false narratives of the UDF, while the fissures in the Congress came out in the form of verbal battles between its leaders, he claimed.
To a question, Govindan said the secretariat meeting did not discuss his controversial remark on CPI(M)&rsquo;s collaboration with the RSS during the Emergency period.

IDRIS is the first system of its kind in India, combining real-time data, satellite maps, and advanced tools like Artificial Intelligence to send early warnings for natural disasters such as landslides, flash floods, wildfires, and drought, the release claimed.
The system will help local leaders and government officials make better, faster decisions. It does this by using GIS-based risk maps to guide where roads, buildings, and water systems should be built -- keeping both people and nature in mind, officials said.
The system is being developed under the leadership of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
The system uses artificial intelligence, sensors and satellite maps to monitor and predict hazards like landslides, flash floods, forest fires and droughts in real time, the release said.
"Forty-six sensors will monitor soil movement, rain and moisture levels. Forty-eight river gauges will track water levels in key tributaries such as the Thodupuzha River and Pamba. Data will be fed live into a GIS-based control room at the District Emergency Operations Centre. Officials will use this information to send early warnings and guide safer infrastructure planning," it said.
Alerts will be sent through SMS, sirens, radio and a mobile app, in Malayalam, English, Tamil, Hindi, and tribal languages.
"The development of the IDRIS software and its field-level testing will begin soon," the district collector said.
The aim is to transform Idukki into India's most disaster-resilient hill district by combining sensor technology, GIS-based risk layers, and machine learning, she added.
Officials said Idukki is a district highly prone to disasters.
Since 2000, it has faced over 600 landslides, recurring floods, rising incidents of wild animal attacks, unsafe constructions, and forest fires, they said.
Taking all these risks into account, a comprehensive multi-hazard monitoring system is being set up in the district, officials added.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his cabinet members had visited all 140 Assembly constituencies and interacted with the people at the &lsquo;Nava Kerala&rsquo; meets and project proposals that came up during the talks are being taken up for implementation, an official release here said.
The guidelines prepared by the state planning board for the implementation of these projects were approved by the cabinet with amendments.
A committee comprising the chief secretary, secretary, programme implementation evaluation and monitoring document portal (PIE&amp;MD) and the district collectors concerned have been empowered to take up the development works on a priority basis, the release said.
A maximum amount of Rs 7 crore will be allocated in each Assembly constituency. An announcement will be made later in the case of Malappuram district, where election code of conduct is in force.
The cabinet also decided to sanction additional posts in government and aided schools in the state. As per the post determination conducted for the academic year 2024-2025, 915 additional posts have been sanctioned in 552 schools in the government sector and 1,304 additional posts have also been sanctioned in 658 aided schools.
The decision is subject to conditions with effect from October 1, 2024, and separate notification will be issued later in Malappuram, the release said.
The cabinet also decided to seek permission from the central government to kill wild animals that posed threat to life and property.
The Forest and Wildlife department has been asked to initiate steps for securing permission from the central government for the killing of wild boars and other wild animals that posed a threat to human life and property.
The Forest secretary has been tasked to submit a proposal for the necessary legislation in this regard in consultation with the Law secretary, the release said.
The cabinet also decided to appoint Harishree M, who represented Kerala at the 35th National Games and won a bronze medal in rugby, as a supernumerary clerk in the Sports and Youth Affairs department.

A forest department official said that besides the Rs 10 lakh compensation provided for loss of life in wild animal attacks, an additional Rs 4 lakh would be provided to the victim's next of kin and someone from his family would also be given a job.
State Forest Minister A K Saseendran said that the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) has been directed to investigate whether there were any lapses on the part of forest officials as claimed by the locals and submit a report.
Earlier in the day, police said, the tiger attacked the victim, Gafoor, and dragged him away according to another taping worker who was accompanying the victim.
A forest official confirmed that it was a tiger which attacked the tapping worker and that he was dragged away around 200 meters into the forest by the big cat.
The official also confirmed that there were bite marks on various parts of the victim's body.
Following the incident, local residents gathered in the area in large numbers and obstructed the removal of the body, alleging lapses on the part of the forest department in preventing the incident.
They told TV channels that the forest officials had been informed about the presence of the tiger in the area several months back when domestic and pet animals were being taken away by it.
"However, no action was taken. Even, they did not set up a cage to catch the tiger," the residents claimed and demanded that the feline be shot dead.
Gafoor's body was later allowed to be removed for postmortem after forest and district authorities assured the locals that steps would be taken to address the issue of wild animal attacks and requisite financial assistance would be provided to the victim's family, a forest official said.
Later in the day, Saseendran said the people's reaction in such a situation was understandable.
He said that all help would be provided to the family including for funeral arrangements and steps were being taken to capture the tiger.
The minister admitted that a few months ago there were reports of tiger presence in the area and forest officials had carried out an extensive search for the feline, but nothing was found.
"Subsequently, in the absence of the tiger, the forest officials' vigilance might have reduced a bit. Now we are taking all steps, including setting up cages and deploying kumki elephants (trained captive tuskers), to catch the tiger," he said.
The minister also said that he has spoken to the police, forest and other officials in the area and directed them to take preventive steps to ensure such incidents do not recur.
Meanwhile, Congress party in a statement said that Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra spoke to the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the area regarding the incident and asked him to take steps to allay the fear of the people.
After the incident, Congress MLA A P Anilkumar visited the area and alleged that he had informed the DFO of the area and also Saseendran about the presence of the tiger in the area when the budget session was going on.
"There has been a serious lapse on the part of the forest officials in this case as they knew about the presence of the tiger in the area more than two months ago," he said.
Following the local's protest, a senior forest official told reporters that two teams with tranquilisers had started from Wayanad and Palakkad along with 'kumki' elephants to dart and catch the tiger.
"We need everyone's cooperation in the matter," he said to the local residents protesting against the incident.

During the meeting, Vijayan also directed officials to complete all necessary procedures related to the permitted cutting of trees, reorganisation of the power distribution systems, and other related tasks.
He further instructed them to expedite the steps for providing assistance from the Chief Minister&rsquo;s Distress Relief Fund, deploying officials, and removing debris from water bodies to ensure smooth water flow, the release added.

State Chief Secretary A Jayathilak has instructed all District Collectors and other officials to ensure the proper execution of the mock drill.
He also stated that the public, institutions, and organisations should cooperate with the exercise, remain alert, and that there is no need for concern.
Preparations for the Civil Defence mock drill were discussed on Tuesday in a meeting convened by the Chief Secretary.

A boy suffered burn injuries after the smart TV he was watching at home exploded in this north Kerala district on Wednesday, family sources said.
Sajin (14), a native of Ambileri in Kalpetta, sustained minor burns on his hands and was rushed to a nearby private hospital, they added.
The fire completely destroyed the television, and the flames spread to other parts of the house, causing extensive damage.
Upon being informed, residents and fire and rescue personnel rushed to the scene and doused the flames, they said.
Immanuel, Sajin&rsquo;s younger brother, said the incident occurred while both were watching television.
"Suddenly, flames appeared on the switchboard. They spread quickly, and the back of the TV caught fire. As my brother tried to switch off the TV, he suffered burns on his hands. Later, it exploded loudly," he told the media.

Kerala's strict legal action on drug charges against actor Shine Tom Chacko reflects the commitment to uphold the law.

The Kerala government is viewing the drugs-related allegations and case against actor Shine Tom Chacko very seriously, with the police as well as the Excise department effectively intervening in the matter, state Law Minister P Rajeev said on Tuesday.
The minister also said that no person or sector would be exempted from the ambit of the law.
Rajeev, responding to queries from reporters about the allegations by actress Vincy Aloshious against Chacko, said that the government was considering the matter very seriously and will take strict action against such behaviour as alleged against the actor.
He also said that Chacko was acquitted in an earlier case due to the failure of the police probe, according to the courts.
The minister said that the investigation back then occurred during the UDF rule, but now the government in power has taken a strict stand in the matter, and all its machinery, including the police and excise, were working in coordination.
Meanwhile, the police said that an investigation into the latest drugs case against Chacko was going on and that it would seek expediting of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report of the samples taken from the actor.
Kochi City Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya also told reporters that a lot of things need to be investigated, and calling Chacko before completing that would not be beneficial for the case.
He also said that the police will be looking into the names of people who visited the actor when he was staying at the hotel from where he had allegedly fled when a District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) team carried out a raid there.
Chacko has been booked under section 238 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and sections 27 (drug consumption) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, in connection with that incident.
According to the FIR, a District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) team under Kochi City Police found the actor and another person using drugs and engaged in a criminal conspiracy in Room No 314 of a hotel near Kaloor last week.
Upon noticing the police, Chacko allegedly fled through a window in an alleged attempt to destroy evidence.
Vincy Aloshious has filed a complaint with the Film Chamber, accusing Chacko of inappropriate behaviour while under the influence of drugs on a movie set.
She has also informed the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) about his misconduct on the sets of the unreleased film 'Soothravakyam', though no police complaint has been filed.
The Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court had recently acquitted Chacko in a 2015 drug case, citing procedural lapses by the police during the seizure and arrest.

The plea came up for hearing before a bench of Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice S Manu which placed the matter on the administrative side of the High Court for constituting a special bench.
KeLSA in its plea has said that ragging was "a deeply entrenched social menace that continues to plague educational institutions, causing severe psychological, emotional, and even physical harm to students".
