Popular American sports magazine Sports Illustrated sparked controversy as it unveiled its Swimsuits Edition cover, featuring transgender pop star Kim Petras. Petras featured alongside other prominent figures such as Martha Stewart, Megan Fox, and Brooks Nader. Reacting to the news, the German singer-songwriter expressed her excitement and said that to be featured in the iconic magazine is a dream come true. She said, &lsquo;I was so excited when I got the call to be in Sports Illustrated. It&rsquo;s very iconic people have done it before, so, big dream come true to me. Now that we're doing it, I feel like we can.&rsquo; &lsquo;I hope people take away from that I look really hot and Sports Illustrated is cool&hellip;.a pressure sometimes to represent the trans community with everything I do because I feel very blessed that I am at this point and feel so happy when I hear from trans kids and trans people in general that they&rsquo;re inspired by me,&rsquo; she added. Petras is the second ever transgender woman to win a Grammy, following Wendy Carlos&rsquo; three wins in 1969.

Kim Petras and Sam Smith&rsquo;s collaboration &lsquo;Unholy&rsquo; bagged the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group performance. Petras accepted the award as the first transgender woman in the category.
During her speech, Petras announced, &lsquo;Sam graciously wanted me to accept this award because I&rsquo;m the first transgender woman to win this award.&rsquo; She received a standing ovation and uproar of applause for her win.
The singer thanked all the incredible transgender legends before her who paved the way for her in the music industry.
&lsquo;Sophie, my friend who passed away two years ago who told me this would happen, and always believed in me. Thank you so much for you inspiration, Sophie. I adore you, and your inspiration will forever be in my music. Madonna for fighting for LGBT rights. So much. I don&rsquo;t think I could be here without Madonna,&rsquo; said Petra.
She also thanked her mother for her support throughout her journey as a transgender woman and an aspiring musician.

The duo was nominated amongst, ABBA for &lsquo;Don&rsquo;t Shut Me Down,&rsquo; Camila Cabello and Ed Sheeran for &lsquo;Bam Bam,&rsquo; Coldplay and BTS for &lsquo;My Universe&rsquo; and Post Malone and Doja Cat for &lsquo;I Like You (A Happier Song).&rsquo;
