Two labourers were killed in a landslide on the outskirts of Himachal Pradesh capital Shimla on Tuesday morning, police said.
The landslide occurred around 3:30 am near a stone crusher on Junga road, killing Rakesh (31) and Rajesh (40), both natives of Bihar, they said.
According to police, some labourers were sleeping in a two-storey building which collapsed due to the landslide. While five labourers had a narrow escape, the two men got trapped under the debris.
The bodies have been pulled out from the debris with the help of State disaster Response force and fire people and sent for post-mortem, Shimla SP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi told PTI.
The rescue operation continued for an hour. Further investigations are underway, he added.
The deputy Commissioner and the Sub-divisional Magistrate Shimla has visited the spot.

Death toll in landslide at Maharashtra village rises to 24

Rescue teams led by NDRF continued search and rescue operations on Saturday and found the bodies of two women. Over 80 people remain missing since the landslide hit the tribal village on Wednesday.&nbsp;

Search and rescue teams on Saturday recovered two more bodies from the debris at the landslide-affected Irshalwadi village in Maharashtra's Raigad district, taking the death toll in the tragedy to 24, an official said.
Both the deceased were women, he said.
"Bodies of two women were recovered from the landslide site in Irshalwadi on Saturday morning," an official of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said.
With this, the death toll in the landslide tragedy has gone up to 24, he said, adding that the search and rescue work is still underway as 84 persons are yet to be traced.
One of these two deceased women are identified as 32-year-old Mahi Madhu Tirkat, he added.
Teams of the NDRF and other government agencies resumed their search and rescue operation at the landslide site, located in hilly terrain, in the morning. This is the third day of the search operation.
The massive landslide hit Irshalwadi, a tribal village located on a hill slope in the coastal district, around 80km from Mumbai, on Wednesday night. At least 17 of 48 houses in the village were fully or partially buried under the landslide debris.
As the village, overlooked by Irshalgad fort, a popular trekking destination, does not have a pucca road, earth movers and excavators could not be easily moved and the rescue operation is being carried out manually, officials said.

A landslide on Friday at a tourist campground in Malaysia left two people dead and authorities said 51 people were feared buried at the site on an organic farm outside the capital of Kuala Lumpur.
A total of 79 people were believed to have been at the campsite in Batang Kali in central Selangor state, around 50 kilometres (31 miles) north of Kuala Lumpur, when the incident occurred, Malaysia's fire and rescue department said in a statement.
The campsite, where people can pitch tents or rent them from the farm, is popular with locals.
A child and a woman were found dead, a fire department official told The Associated Press.

The landslide fell from an estimated height of 30 metres (98 feet) and covered an area of about three acres (1.2 hectare), the department said.
It posted pictures of rescuers with flashlights digging through soil and rubble in the early hours of the morning.
The campsite is located on an organic farm not far from the Genting Highlands hill resort, a popular tourist destination with theme parks and Malaysia's only casino.

Italian Vice Premier Matteo Salvini, who is also the infrastructure minister, earlier had said that eight deaths had been confirmed, speaking to reporters at the opening of a subway extension in Milan.
The prefecture for the Naples region, which includes Ischia, said at least 12 people were missing.
Video from the island shows paths that the landslides had cut down slopes, leaving behind traces of mud. Streets were impassable and mayors on the island urged people to stay at home.

"We are trying to rescue them, to rescue them alive.” She said shelters will be set up for people who lost their homes.

Himachal Pradesh's disaster management department has issued a warning for landslides due to heavy rains predicted in the state till August 25.

Five people were killed and 13 others were feared dead in separate incidents of flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, officials said on Saturday.
Twenty-two people, who were stranded following a flash flood in the state's Hamirpur district, were evacuated safely, they said.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur expressed condolences over the deaths and said that the administration is carrying out rescue operations on a war footing in the affected districts. &nbsp;According to officials, three people were killed after their house collapsed following a landslide triggered by rains in the Chamba district.
The Chamba district emergency operation centre (DEOC) said the landslide occurred at Banet village in Chowari tehsil around 4.30 am following which a house collapsed, killing three people.
In Mandi, a girl was killed and 13 others were feared dead in a landslide and flash flood triggered by heavy rains, officials said.
The body of a girl was recovered about half a km away from her house in Baghi Nullah on Mandi-Katola-Prashar road on Friday night, while five members of her family were washed away, state disaster management department officials said.

Several families also left their houses located between Baghi to Old Katola areas after a cloud burst and took shelter at safe places, the department added.
Besides, eight members of another family are also feared buried under the debris of their house following a landslide at Kashan village in the Gohar development block, the department added.
However, the bodies have not been retrieved yet, it said.
Several roads in the Mandi district have also been blocked following flash floods and multiple landslides.
Several vehicles were damaged and a number of villagers were stuck in their houses as water entered their houses and shops at Balh, Sadar, Thunag, Mandi and Lamathach, officials said.
Schools in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district will remain closed on Saturday due to ongoing incessant rains, a senior administration official said.
Several vehicles parked along the road were damaged and residents remained stuck inside their houses, they said.
In Kangra, a 'Kacha' house collapsed killing a nine-year-old child, officials said.
Himachal Pradesh's disaster management department has issued a warning for landslides due to heavy rains predicted in the state till August 25.
Precipitation is likely to increase during the next 24 hours for the subsequent three-four days with spells of heavy rainfall in parts of Kangra, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Hamirpur, Una and Bilaspur districts, state disaster management department director Sudesh Kumar Mokhta said. Mokhta asked district emergency operations centres (DEOCs) to take adequate safety measures as landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, rock slides, sudden increases in water level in rivers, poor visibility and disruption of essential services may occur during the period.
Meanwhile, the Kangra district administration has issued an advisory, asking tourists and people to not go near rivers and streams after the India Meteorological Department predicted moderate to heavy rainfall till August 28.
Deputy Commissioner, Kangra, Dr Nipun Jindal said, "Tourists and the general public are advised not to go near rivers, streams and other water bodies. Similarly areas vulnerable to the landslide should also be avoided".
He also asked authorities to remain alert and respond to any situation that may arise out of the situation.
Jindal said the deputy director of the education department has already been instructed to conduct online classes in schools.

In a statement, the Army said Assam Rifles and Territorial Army troops carried out the rescue operations throughout the day in the general area of the Tupul railway station, in spite of inclement weather.
"The civil administration has cautioned civilians living in downstream areas of the (Ejai) river to take precautions and evacuate due to likelihood of breach in the dam created on the river by the landslide," the statement said.
The search operations will continue during the night, it added.
Engineering equipment, including dozers, have been pressed into service for creating access to the site and help in the rescue efforts, it said.
"Teams of Indian Railways, civil administration, NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) and locals of Noney district are also actively contributing in the search," the statement noted.
"So far, 13 soldiers of Territorial Army and five civilians have been rescued, while mortal remains of seven soldiers and one civilian have been recovered," it said.

A 45-year-old truck driver was killed and several shops were damaged following a landslide triggered by heavy rains in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, officials said.
Tariq Ahmad Khan was driving out his parked truck when the landslide struck Mandi-Poonch road near Sakloo village, they said.
The officials said the rescuers immediately swung into action and pulled out the driver from the damaged vehicle in a critical condition.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to injuries, they said.
Besides the truck, five shops were damaged in the incident, the officials said.
They said the road clearance operation was going on when the last reports came in.

The moment of disaster captured by a passerby showed large swathes of evergreen trees along with rocks and debris toppling like a deck of cards.
The landslide, which took place about half a mile south of downtown Seward, measured about 200 feet long and 300 feet wide.
No injuries were reported due to the landslide as per a civic official.
