Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has taken a balanced stance amid the ongoing language debate, emphasizing the importance of both Hindi and English.
Addressing the situation, Naidu remarked, "Hindi is the national language, while English is the international language," highlighting the necessity for these languages as more Indians travel abroad for work.
Naidu stressed, "For livelihood, we will learn any number of languages. We won't forget our mother tongue. Language is primarily a tool for communication, and it's beneficial to learn as many languages as possible."
He further expressed that some people mistakenly equate language proficiency with knowledge, asserting that knowledge is best acquired when studied in one's mother tongue.
The controversy stems from the DMK government's opposition to the Central government's proposed three-language policy, which has sparked further debate in southern states.
As elections loom, the DMK has openly challenged the BJP-led Centre on issues of language policy and political representation, suggesting these policies aim to strengthen northern dominance in cultural and political spheres.
In response, the Centre maintains its stance that states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, ruled by Opposition parties, should promptly adopt the three-language policy.
The government emphasizes that Hindi is just one of the 22 officially recognized languages included in the National Education Policy, which aims to promote multilingualism across the country.

The debate over India's three-language policy sees contrasting views from MPs, with Sudha Murty advocating for multilingual education and opposition figures defending regional language autonomy.

Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty has expressed her support for the three-language policy outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP), advocating for students to embrace multilingual learning.
Drawing from her personal experience, Murty shared, "I have always believed that one can learn multiple languages, and I myself know 7-8 languages. I enjoy learning, and I believe children can gain a lot from it."
This endorsement contrasts sharply with the stance of Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, who has criticized the Union Government over the same policy. Chidambaram argues that Tamil Nadu is adequately served by its two-language approach, comprising English and Tamil.
"English connects us with the world of commerce and science, and Tamil preserves our culture and identity. If anyone wants to learn a third language, it should be their choice. Forcing a third language upon us is unacceptable," he stated.
Adding to the opposition's concerns, Congress MP Jebi Mather remarked, "The BJP should realize that language is a sensitive emotional matter... Anything that damages people's sentiments should be avoided. Dharmendra Pradhan is causing unnecessary societal divisions. The opposition stands united for harmony, which is why we walked out of Parliament yesterday. The BJP's NEP (National Education Policy) has hidden agendas..."
In the Rajya Sabha, the Union Education Minister refuted claims that the government seeks to divide society through language policies, asserting that the administration, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would never commit such a "sin."
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also criticized the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for its opposition to the three-language policy. She accused the DMK-led government in Tamil Nadu of creating a "political mess" and denying children their "right to learn" additional languages.

A fresh row over language has sparked with Telagana minister KTR asking Indigo Airlines to respect local languages and passengers. The response has emerged after a woman passenger in a Telangana-bound flight was made to change her seat due to language barrier.
The issue was brought to light by a co-passenger who took to Twitter and narrated the entire incident.
Alleging discrimination, she claimed that the concerned woman was 'forced to change her seat' because she understood only Telugu, not English/Hindi. The user further wrote that the attendant cited security issue for her act. "No dignity, non-Hindi treated as second class citizens in their own state," she added.
KTR also urged the Airlines to recruit staff well-versed in local language like Telugu, Tamil, Kannada saying that it will be a win-win situation for everyone.
