While the director has received great reviews and massive box office success, he has also received criticism for the portrayal of violence in his films. In the latest, a petition has been filed against Lokesh Kanagaraj over his film &lsquo;Leo&rsquo;s&rsquo; content in Madurai bench of the High Court. &nbsp;
The petitioner Raju Murugan has filed a plea, urging the court to order a psychological evaluation of the director. The petitioner has also asked for a ban on his movie &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; citing excessive violence in the film, saying that his movie is inciting violence. The petition says that Leo features several scenes promoting violence including the use of weapons, drugs, religious symbols and violence against children and women. &nbsp;
The petition argued that movies like &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; should be reviewed by the Censor Board in a more vigilant way. &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; Director has been facing the ire for the portrayal of extreme violence in his films including &lsquo;Leo&rsquo;, &lsquo;Vikram&rsquo; and &lsquo;Kaithi&rsquo;. When asked about the violence in his movies, the director had responded by saying that it is &lsquo;fun&rsquo;. He further defended his films by saying that he makes films for pure entertainment purpose. &nbsp;
This was the second film together for Lokesh and Thalapathy Vijay after &lsquo;Master&rsquo;. Lokesh Kanagaraj&rsquo;s &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; with Thalapathy Vijay in the lead was one of the highest grossing film of 2023, leaving behind several Bollywood films. &nbsp;Fans were in for a rude shock on Wednesday morning when a Facebook account named after Director Lokesh Kanagaraj began posting some explicit videos. After resulting in numerous memes and some confused comments, the &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; director took to X to clarify the same. Lokesh shared a statement on his X claiming that he only has Instagram and Twitter accounts.

The film, which faced a slight decline in earnings on Dussehra, amassed ₹31.5 crore nett for all languages on Tuesday, as per early estimates shared by Sacnilk.com.
The total domestic collection for "Leo" now stands impressively at ₹248.6 crore.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Breaking down the occupancy rates, the film saw a robust 65.79 percent Tamil occupancy on Tuesday, while Telugu and Hindi occupancies stood at 48.40 percent and 20.13 percent, respectively.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; "Leo" had a strong opening last Thursday, raking in ₹64.8 crore, with Tamil shows contributing ₹49 crore to the initial earnings.
Despite mixed reviews and negative word of mouth, the film managed to collect ₹35.25 crore on its second day.
There was a slight growth in earnings on Sunday, reaching ₹41.55 crore, but it slowed down again on Monday.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Impressively, the film achieved a significant milestone by crossing ₹400 crore in worldwide gross within just five days of its release.
Notably, "Leo" outperformed Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, at the global box office on its fourth day.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, "Leo" marks Sanjay Dutt's Tamil debut and features a stellar cast including Trisha Krishnan, Arjun, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mysskin, Madonna Sebastian, George Maryan, Mansoor Ali Khan, Priya Anand, and Mathew Thomas.

The film's impressive box office performance was marked by a strong 76.25% Tamil occupancy and 57% Telugu occupancy, though Hindi theaters reported lower figures, ranging from 12 to 27%.
Internationally, trade analyst Manobala Vijaybalan confirmed the film's entry into the elite ₹200 crore club overseas.
However, he expressed concerns about Leo's future, emphasizing the crucial nature of the upcoming days for the movie's success, especially in overseas markets.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagraj, "Leo" stars Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role and also marks the Tamil debut of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, known for his role in "KGF: Chapter 2."

Thalapathy Vijay&rsquo;s much-anticipated film &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; was released in theatres on October 19 and it opened to majorly positive reviews from the audience. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial delivered the biggest worldwide opening of the year across all Indian film industries.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; earned Rs 140 crore worldwide on its opening day.
There have been many controversies surrounding the action drama&rsquo;s release in the Hindi and Telugu belts.
The film made Rs 63 crore nett in the domestic market and Rs 74 crore gross in India. These figures are lower than Shah Rukh Khan&rsquo;s action thriller &lsquo;Jawan&rsquo;.
Tamil Nadu, which is the primary market for Vijay, did not hold any early morning shows and the film earned Rs 30 crore, followed by Rs 15 crore in the Andhra Pradesh-Telangana market.
In Karnataka, the film collected Rs 14 crore on the opening day, and in Kerala, &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; earned Rs 11 crore.
&lsquo;Leo&rsquo; enjoyed 86.92% Tamil occupancy on its opening day, with the morning shows witnessing almost 86.35% occupancy and the night shows getting over 90% occupancy rate.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala had predicted that &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; could do over Rs 100 crore worldwide on its opening day.
&lsquo;In India, I predict there is a chance of it doing Rs 70 crore on day one. Worldwide, it might do Rs 100 crore on the opening day, based on the current estimation,&rsquo; he told The Indian Express.

&lsquo;Leo&rsquo; producer S Naga Vamsi has clarified that Vijay's much-awaited film will not be delayed in Telugu states and is all set for an October 19 release. This confirmation comes a day after the city civil court in Hyderabad stalled the screening of &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; till October 20. Naga Vamsi, who holds the distribution rights of the film in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, told the media that there was a &lsquo;slight miscommunication&rsquo; that took place. He said, &lsquo;Today at noon, there was a slight miscommunication that took place when a person approached the court instead of approaching us. He claimed that the title Leo was already registered somewhere in Vijayawada. We've identified the problem and it is being sorted in an amicable manner.&rsquo; Confirming that there has been an out-of-court settlement in the matter, he added, &lsquo;The title has been registered and the film has been censored too. We've mutually agreed to sort out the issue because the person who registered it shouldn't be at a loss and the film should arrive in theatres as per the schedule. Thalapathy Vijay&rsquo;s &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; is slated to be released in theatres on October 19, but a civil court in Hyderabad has passed an order to withhold the film&rsquo;s release until October 20.
This comes after Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainment filed a case, claiming that he has the rights to the title &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; and demanded the filmmakers change the name in his plea.
The news was shared on social media by trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan. He tweeted, &lsquo;BREAKING: #LEO Telugu release STOPPED till 20th October 2023. &lsquo;Leo&rsquo;s release has not been a celebration as it should have been for millions of fans. The movie still doesn&rsquo;t have a confirmed time for the first show.
Seven Screen Studio appealed to the Madras High Court to let the Tamil Nadu government allow early morning shows. While refusing to allow the 4 a.m. show, the court asked the government to reconsider its decision to not allow 7 a.m. shows.
The state is yet to come out with its decision.
Except for Tamil Nadu, the film has early morning shows in Kerala and Karnataka. Pudhucherry government has also given permission for 7 a.m. shows.
Meanwhile, Leo&rsquo;s ticket sales have been incredible. Trade analysts predict the film will earn more than Rs 70 crore on the first day.
&lsquo;Leo&rsquo; will be released in multiple languages&ndash;Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. Anirudh Ravichander, who struck gold with Rajinikanth starrer &lsquo;Jailer&rsquo;, has also composed the songs for &lsquo;Leo&rsquo;.

Madras High Court has denied granting permission for a 4 AM screening of Thalapathy Vijay starrer 'Leo'.
The court, however, directed the producers to approach the state government with their request regarding 7 AM shows from October 19-24.

Tamil Nadu&rsquo;s government only granted them five shows, with the earliest beginning at 9 AM.
Madras High Court judge has now left the matter in the hands of the Tamil Nadu government, in case they would like to reconsider the earliest show timing to be 7 AM.
The Indian Express had quoted K Ramachandran&rsquo;s petition in their report. The petition read, &lsquo;I submit that adhering to the regulation I had submitted a representation letter dated 15 Sep 2023 to the Principal Secretary to Government, the Hon&rsquo;ble Minister, and the Hon&rsquo;ble Chief Minister requesting permission to screen 6 shows on the opening day and 5 shows from 20th October to 24th October 2023. On the opening day ie., 19.10.2023 the 1st show has been planned to be screened at 4 am to cater for the insatiable desire of the hard-core fans and from 7 am onwards from 20.10.2023.&rsquo;
&lsquo;To cater for the unusual demand of viewership the states of Kerala and Karnataka have permitted an early morning timing extension from 4&rsquo;o clock. In line with the neighbouring states, I had requested the same special show timings from 4 a.m. for the theatres in Tamil Nadu to manage overcrowding and fanfare on 19.10.2023,&rsquo; the petition further read.

Thalapathy Vijay and director Lokesh Kanagaraj's 'Leo' has been making headlines for the past few weeks. The film is gearing up for a grand release in theatres in just three days. Earlier, Seven Screen Studio, the production house, requested the Tamil Nadu state government to permit theatres to hold early morning shows for 'Leo'. The government passed an order stating that theatres can hold one extra show for six days starting October 19.
As per the order, the first show can start at 9 am in Tamil Nadu and end at 1.30 am. However, in other states, 'Leo' will release as early as 4 am. Following the demand, the producers of 'Leo' have sought the court's permission to hold early morning shows.
On October 16, the producers of 'Leo' filed a writ petition at the Madras High Court seeking permission for early morning shows (4 am and 7 am) on October 19 and 7 am shows from October 20 onwards to October 24. Justice Anita Sumanth, who heard the case today, adjourned it to October 17.
Earlier this year, early morning shows were cancelled for all films after the celebrations resulted in a casualty during the screening of a popular Tamil movie in Chennai in January 2023. Since then, theatres haven't been screening films before 9 am.

Thalapathy Vijay&rsquo;s forthcoming film &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; has been granted U/A certificate by the Censor Board of Film Certification but with 13 changes.&nbsp;
The Censor Board has reportedly asked director Lokesh Kanagaraj to mute the swear words in the film and make amends for the gore scenes. Following the changes and cuts, &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; will have a run time of 164 minutes (2 hours 44 minutes).
&lsquo;Leo&rsquo; is a part of his &lsquo;Lokesh Cinematic Universe&rsquo;. The film is slated to release in theatres on October 19.
The action thriller also stars Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja, Gautham Menon, Mysskin and Priya Anand in pivotal roles. The film also features Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt.&nbsp;
Script for &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; has been written by Rathna Kumar and Deeraj Vaidy along with Lokesh Kanagaraj.&nbsp;
The music for the film is composed by Anirudh Ravichander and its cinematography and editing have been handled by Manoj Paramahamsa and Philomin Raj, respectively.
The trailer of Leo was released on October 5 and it sent the internet into a frenzy.&nbsp;
About the film
The film revolves around a &lsquo;mild-mannered&rsquo; cafe owner who becomes a local hero through an act of violence. However, he soon starts to face repercussions in connection to his past life. Not only do we see Vijay&rsquo;s past life haunting him in the movie, but we also see a vicious Sanjay Dutt as the villain.

The trailer also features Trisha, who is reuniting with Vijay after almost two decades. They last featured together in Ghilli.&nbsp;
&nbsp;Gautam Vasudev Menon will be playing the cop in the movie.

During the session, Kumar shared that the film won&rsquo;t release in Hindi language at the national multiplexes chain, the PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis cinemas. These cineplexes demand that film should release after eight weeks of release on OTT but because like the other South Indian films, &lsquo;Leo&rsquo; will release on OTT withing 4 weeks of its release, so the decision was taken.
DNA stated that a report says that Netflix has paid a sum of Rs 120 crore for the streaming of Vijay Thalapathy starrer. The film will be releasing in more than 2000 single screens in its Hindi dubbed version in North India.&nbsp;
