In a major setback to Karnataka BJP, two Lingayat leaders HD Thammaiah and KS Kiran Kumar on Sunday joined Congress along with 100 other party leaders.&nbsp;
HD Thammaiah, who has been working for the BJP for close to 2 decades, expressed displeasure for not being given the election ticket from Chikmagalur and tendered his resignation.
Meanwhile, Kiran Kumar, another staunch supporter of BS Yediyurappa also quit the saffron party for not getting due recognition.&nbsp;

The seer of Kanchugal Bande Math was suspected to have been honey trapped and blackmailed, which allegedly forced him to end his life, police sources said on Wednesday.
Sri Basavalingeshwara Swami, the head of the Math in Kempupura of Magadi taluk, which has a history of more than 400 years, was found hanging from a window grill of the puja house at the math's premises on Sunday.
A couple of pages of purported death note were found in which he has accused some people of harassing and blackmailing him by assassinating his character and has even named them.
The 45-year-old Lingayat seer was honey-trapped and often blackmailed after the Murugha Math Chief Pontiff Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru was arrested in a sexual harassment case, the sources claimed.
Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru is facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the IPC.
Sharanaru is an accused in the case where two minor girls were allegedly sexually abused. They were students in the school run by Murugha Math and stayed in the math's hostel.&nbsp;

Congress leader president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday got initiated into the Lingayat sect by the seer of Muruga Mutt in Chitradurga town of central Karnataka in the presence of various party leaders.
After a conversation with Lingayat seers of various mutts, the seer of Muruga Mutt, Shivamurthy Muruga Sharana initiated Gandhi into Lingayat sect.
"It is an absolute honour to visit Sri Jagadguru Murugharajendra Vidyapeetha and receive the 'Ishtalinga Deekshe' from Dr. Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru", Gandhi tweeted.
The dominant Lingayat sect was founded in the 12th century by social reformer and poet Basaveshwara, who has a huge following in Karnataka and some neighbouring regions of the state such as Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Incumbent Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and his predecessor BS Yeddiyurappa hail from the sect, which is particularly dominant in north Karnataka.

Sharanaru was taken to the Chitradurga district hospital on 2 September 2022 after experiencing health issues. Reports suggested that he would be shifted to Jayadeva hospital in Bengaluru for treatment.
The Lingayat leader has been remanded to 14 days' judicial custody. Sharanaru and 4 others have been booked in the case.
