Employees put out the fire with an extinguisher and no injuries were reported, he said.
Pictures of the socks spread on social media this month, sparking public outrage among some Muslims who regarded them as insulting, especially because they went up for sale during the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
Islam is the official religion in Malaysia and Malay-Muslims make up more than two-thirds of the population of 34 million.
Race and religion are thorny issues in Malaysia, which witnessed deadly racial riots in 1969.
KK Super Mart CEO Chai Kee Kan, 57, and his wife, who serves as a company director, were charged this week with "deliberately intending to hurt the religious feelings" of Malaysians, according to a charge sheet seen by AFP.
Three officials from supplier Xin Jian Chang were also charged with abetting them.
All five pleaded not guilty and face a maximum jail term of one year or a fine, or both, if convicted.
The case drew a rare royal rebuke from Malaysia's king, who called for an investigation and "strict action" against any party found guilty.
KK Supermart, Malaysia's second-largest mini-market chain, has apologised for the socks, saying it viewed the matter "seriously" and had taken action to stop their sale immediately.

In fast playing conditions, the Indians dominated the proceedings early on, cruising to a 5-1 lead with the help of some angled returns and accurate placements.
Satwik and Chirag looked in complete control while their opponents were a bit nervy as they played short and pacy rallies comprising just 5-8 flat and fast shots.
The Indians had a seven-point advantage at the break when the Chinese went to the net.
The targeted returns of the Indians often left the Chinese cramped as they patrolled the front court. Soon the Indians were 18-9 up and grabbed the opening game after Liang went wide and long.
It was time for the Chinese pair to run up a 8-2 lead after the change of ends as the Indians repeatedly missed their mark. Satwik also committed a service error as the Chinese duo was 9-5 up and when Chirag mistimed a return-to-serve, it was a 11-6 advantage for Liang and Wang.
The match didn't see too many smashes as none of the pairs tried to lift and kept the shuttle flat during the rallies. The focus was to find gaps and angles without compromising on the pace.
After resumption, the Indians started to draw out errors from their opponents to make it 15-17. A short serve from Satwik gave two game points to the Chinese, and Liang sealed it with a lethal return to roar back into the contest.
The decider started with the same breathtaking speed with the Indians up 4-2 after Liang was called for a service fault for height.
Back to the winning side, the Indians once again looked ominous, waltzing away with quick points to move to 10-3 before taking a four-point cushion at the final break.
Chirag was brilliant near the net, pouncing on anything marginally weak but things started changing after resumption as Wang came to the fore, dominating the front court and soon brought things at level at 12-12 with a flick serve.
Satwik seemed to falter a bit in the end as he conceded a few points on the flat pushes. On one such occasion, when Satwik went wide during a flat exchange, the Chinese moved into a 14-13 lead for the first time.
Liang, who had looked a bit subdued till now, also found his groove just in time as the Chinese moved to 19-16.
A disguised cross court drop shot gave four championship points to the Chinese. The Indians saved one before the Chinese shut the doors on their hopes.
It was yet another creditable performance from the Indian pair, which had claimed its maiden Super 1000 crown at the Indonesia Open last June.

2 dead, 51 missing as landslide hits Malaysia campground

A landslide on Friday at a tourist campground in Malaysia left two people dead and authorities said 51 people were feared buried at the site on an organic farm outside the capital of Kuala Lumpur.
A total of 79 people were believed to have been at the campsite in Batang Kali in central Selangor state, around 50 kilometres (31 miles) north of Kuala Lumpur, when the incident occurred, Malaysia's fire and rescue department said in a statement.
The campsite, where people can pitch tents or rent them from the farm, is popular with locals.
A child and a woman were found dead, a fire department official told The Associated Press.

Three people were injured while rescuers were searching for the estimated 51 missing people, the department said.
Another 23 people have been rescued.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department chief Norazam Khamis was reported by Bernama news agency as saying that firefighters began arriving at the scene half an hour after receiving a distress call at 2.24 am.
The landslide fell from an estimated height of 30 metres (98 feet) and covered an area of about three acres (1.2 hectare), the department said.
It posted pictures of rescuers with flashlights digging through soil and rubble in the early hours of the morning.
The campsite is located on an organic farm not far from the Genting Highlands hill resort, a popular tourist destination with theme parks and Malaysia's only casino.
Bernama posted a video of some families with young children who were rescued taking refuge at a police station nearby.&nbsp;

Anwar's Alliance of Hope led Saturday's election with 82 seats, short of the 112 needed for a majority.
An unexpected surge of ethnic Malay support propelled Former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's right-leaning National Alliance to win 72 seats, with its ally Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party emerging as the biggest single party with 49 seats.
The stalemate was resolved after the long-ruling bloc led by the United Malays National Organisation agreed to support a unity government under Anwar.
Such a tie-up was once unthinkable in Malaysian politics, long dominated by rivalry between the two parties. Other influential groups in Borneo island have said they will follow the king's decision.
&ldquo;His Royal Highness reminds all parties that the winners do not win all and the losers do not lose everything,&rdquo; a palace statement read.
The monarch urged Anwar and his new government to be humble, and said all opposing parties should reconcile to ensure a stable government and end Malaysia's political turmoil, which has led to three prime ministers since 2018 polls.
The palace statement said the king was satisfied Anwar is the candidate who is likely to have majority support but didn't give details of the new government.
Police have tightened security nationwide as social media warned of racial troubles if Anwar's multiethnic bloc wins.
Anwar's rise to the top will ease fears over greater Islamisation. But he faces a tall task in bridging racial divides that deepened after Saturday's poll, as well as reviving an economy struggling with rising inflation and a currency that has fallen to its weakest point.
Malays form two-thirds of Malaysia's 33 million people, which include large ethnic Chinese and Indian minorities.
&ldquo;He will have to make compromises with other actors in the government that means that the reform process will be a more inclusive one," said Bridget Welsh, a Southeast Asia political expert. &ldquo;Anwar is a globalist, which will assure international investors. He has been seen to be a bridge builder across communities, which will test his leadership moving forward but at the same juncture offers a reassuring hand for the challenges that Malaysia will face.&rdquo; It marked a second victory for Anwar's reformist bloc. In 2021, he justified the demolition of a Hindu temple by a violent mob in Pakistan. Naik had said that Islamic nations cannot allow the building of temples. Back in 1998, Naik had spoke in favour of al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, saying that he supports bin Laden if he is terrorising America which is the "biggest terrorist". Naik had added that he stands with bin Laden if he is fighting the "enemies of Islam".
In 2016, the preacher said that Islam allows suicide attacks as a tactic in war, but they're 'haraam' or forbidden if innocents die. The same year, the Indian government said that Naik had been praised by terrorists who carried out the July 2016 attack in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The terrorists, who had killed 22 people in a cafe, had said that they admired Zakir Naik.
As the controversies mounted, Naik came under the scanner of Indian authorities.
He now stands accused of hate speech and money laundering. His organisation, the Islamic Research Foundation, or IRF was also banned in 2016. Naik is now wanted by the National Investigation Agency and the Enforcement Directorate. He allegedly promoted religious hatred and terrorism in India. He is also accused of amassing $28 million in ill-gotten wealth. India cancelled Naik's passport in July 2016.

Fleeing Indian agencies, Zakir Naik took refuge in Malaysia where he was supported by then-Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. But his controversial streak continued.
The Muslim country banned his speeches in 2020 as he came under fire from a minister for saying that Malaysian Hindus are more loyal to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi than their country.&nbsp;
Naik was also banned from entering the United Kingdom in 2010. The UK government had called his behaviour "unacceptable". Canada has banned his television channels called Peace TV and Peace TV Urdu. Bangladesh also banned the channels following the 2016 Dhaka terror attack. The television channels are also prohibited in Sri Lanka.
India has been trying to get Naik extradited. With the Malaysian PM supporting him, India also tried the Interpol route. But the international police organisation has rejected India's requests for provisional arrest of Zakir Naik under Red Notices. In 2017, India asked Interpol to declare Naik an international fugitive. But Interpol rejected the appeal saying that no charge sheet had been filed against him in court by then.
In 2019, Interpol rejected India's Red Corner Notice request as it did not want to be seen as for or against a religious figure. Then in 2021, Interpol dismissed India's third plea for a Red Notice after questioning the invocation of money laundering charges.
Now, Zakir Naik's appearance in Qatar marks a fresh instance of tension between Delhi and Doha. Earlier this year, Qatar had objected to comments made by BJP leader Nupur Sharma against Muhammad, who is considered a prophet by Muslims.
India has a few options to let its displeasure known with Qatar. The government can summon the Qatari ambassador in Delhi to register its protest. Another group whose name has emerged is 1877. It is apparently a grouping of Iraqi hackers who seem to have partnered with DragonForce for OpsPatuk. 1877 group attacked the ICAR website, among others.
Then there is One Hat Cyber Team, a group of hackers who apparently belong to Indonesia. The One Hat Cyber Team hacked the website of Thane Police, and demanded an apology over the Mohammad controversy.
The targets of these cyber criminals have been varied. Some of the websites which were attacked include those of the Indian embassy in Israel, the Maharashtra Judicial Academy, Thane Police, National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, and Institute of Science, Nagpur.
Cyber crime is turning out to be a major threat for India. The country saw 1.8 crore cyber attacks and threats in the first three months of 2022, as per US-based cyber security firm Norton. Between January and March, India saw almost 60,000 phishing attempts, and over 30,000 tech support scams, according to the Norton study.
