To a query from PTI as to how he would take it up from here after his best year in franchise cricket, Starc hinted that T20s could gain prominence in his roster.

After resisting the lure of lucrative private leagues for almost a decade because of his commitment towards the 'Baggy Green', Australian pacer Mitchell Starc has hinted that he might quit one format to make room for more franchise cricket in his schedule.
While the 34-year-old didn't specify the format he intends to give up, it is likely to be ODIs considering that the next 50-over World Cup is in 2027.
Starc, who was bought for a record 24.75 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders, was magnificent in the business end of the tournament. He ended up with 17 wickets, including five in the two knock-out games, to engineer a dominant title triumph for the Shah Rukh Khan-owned team.
To a query from PTI as to how he would take it up from here after his best year in franchise cricket, Starc hinted that T20s could gain prominence in his roster.
"For the last nine years, I certainly prioritised Australian cricket. I have pulled out often to have a chance to give my body a break and spend some time away from cricket with my wife as well, so that's certainly been where my head has been for last nine years," Starc said after his match-winning 2/14 in the IPL final against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
"Moving forward, I am certainly close to the end of my career than the start. One format may be dropped off as there is long time till next World Cup and whether that format drops off or not, that will open doors for a lot of franchise cricket," the 'King of Swing' said.
He mentioned that this year's IPL will help him in preparing for the T20 World Cup in West Indies starting June 1.
"...that's the other side of benefit of being here, some amazing players in an amazing tournament and great lead up to WT20 and success has been fantastic. It is great that a lot of players are in good position heading into the World Cup," he said.
He is hopeful of turning up for KKR even next year.
"I don't know the schedule exactly but I have thoroughly enjoyed and hope to be back next year and hopefully, seen in purple and gold again."&nbsp;

Gautam Gambhir backed the Aussie pacer like his own. In the lead-up to the tournament, the KKR mentor called Starc their X-factor and said that &nbsp;he was 'someone who can bowl with the new ball, bowl in the death overs and more importantly, someone who can lead the attack.&rdquo;
KKR also found themselves in the fans' line of fire when Starc didn't live up to his billing at the start of the IPL.
Starc looked rusty to start with and conceded 100 runs without taking any wickets from his 8 overs in the first two matches.
However, KKR CEO Venky Mysore came out in his defence and then said, "He's a superstar and he's a quality player. His presence in the lineup adds a different dynamic to the team."

As Mitchell Starc indulged in just light training sessions ahead of the KKR vs PBKS game, Ramandeep Singh gave a huge update on the star pacer's fitness.

Starc reportedly sustained a finger injury on his bowling hand during their match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Mitchell Starc has no injury concern and is "available" for selection, Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Ramandeep Singh clarified even as the star pacer indulged in just light training sessions ahead of their IPL clash against Punjab Kings.
The Australian cricketer, who attracted a record bid, did not have the kind of return to the league after eight years he would have hoped as he has leaked plenty of runs this season and has managed just six wickets.
The left-arm quick also reportedly sustained a finger injury on his bowling hand during their match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Starc did not bowl at the nets in their two practice sessions ahead of their match against PBKS, while Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera was seen slogging it out, fuelling speculation that the Aussie may be "rested".
But Ramandeep said Starc was available for selection.
"Yes, he's available. It's got to do with his workload management," Ramandeep said. "He is a legend. Cricket is a game of time. We can't judge him from a few matches," he said.
With Starc going through a poor patch, the bowling unit has come under pressure but Ramandeep said, "There has been no discussion on bowling." "We just discus about execution and plan and how to improve further. We don't' judge someone in one or two matches." With five wins in seven matches, KKR occupy the second spot in the 10-team table and are well placed to finish in top-two.
"We are going for one game at a time. We are just focused on Punjab match, not thinking about finishing top two at the moment," Ramandeep said.
He further credited team mentor Gautam Gambhir for their consistent show this season.
"Everyone has a lot of clarity. It's only because of him the team is performing so well. He is backing everyone," he said.&nbsp;

Under scrutiny for his poor show in the ongoing season, IPL's costliest buy Mitchell Starc on Monday received the backing of Kolkata Knight Riders' managing director and CEO Venky Mysore, who said they don't think of him from an "investment standpoint".
KKR had bought Starc for a record Rs 24.75 crore but it always came with a caveat as the Aussie left-arm quick had limited experience in the shortest format and was making a comeback to IPL after nine years.
"He's a superstar and he's a quality player," Mysore said on the sideline of the Knight Golf event at RCGC.
"We don't think of it from an investment standpoint, because you go to the auction and things happen in the auction, which is not in the hands of the player, nor is it in the hands of anybody else.
"We just felt that an addition to the team like Mitchell Starc would add a lot of value, which it has. I mean, his presence in the lineup adds a different dynamic to the team, and there were specific skills that the support staff were looking for. So, we think we had that."
Starc's rustiness in the T20 format came to the fore as he conceded 100 runs without taking any wickets from his eight overs in the first two matches.
It turned from bad to worse on Sunday when he leaked 54 runs from 16 balls at Eden Gardens, and in the final over, RCB No. 9 Karn Sharma with little batting pedigree smashed him for three sixes in four balls.
Starc, however, managed to salvage some pride taking a low return catch to dismiss Karn that eventually sealed a dramatic one-run victory.
"There are times when games are up and down. Everybody gets taken to the cleaners at times, and there are other times they come and just do their thing and win games for the team. So we're super happy having him in the setup," Mysore said.
With five wins from seven matches at the halfway mark, the second-placed KKR look like a transformed side under mentor and two-time title-winning former captain Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir, who last represented the side in 2017, returned to his former franchise as a team mentor, relinquishing the same position at Lucknow Super Giants this season.
Mysore said Gambhir has added a lot of "weight" to the side.
"I think the consistency that is shown, I think we look like a more balanced and settled side this year. Needless to say, Gautam (Gambhir) coming in adds a lot of weight purely from the intensity that he brings, the experience that he brings.
"The winning attitude, I mean, he and Chandu (head coach Chandrakant Pandit) are both very, very determined and very desperate to win.
"They have a great support staff around them. So, I think sometimes these things all have to come together. It's very difficult to pinpoint one thing and say, this is what made the difference. But very happy with where we are right now, so fingers crossed," Mysore said.

'It's World Cups, which is what we play for with the pointy end, (we) seem to be peaking at the right time, which Australia tend to do in tournament play. And whilst we didn't start the way we wanted to, we've certainly had a lot of good contributions from individuals along the way and we find ourselves in another World Cup semi-final,' Starc stated.
Despite suffering back-to-back defeats at the beginning of their campaign to hosts India and South Africa, the five-time world champions finished third to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament for the ninth time.
'I think looking back at (20)15, we probably thought that was the only team that could beat us. Certainly at that stage of the tournament and we didn't play them. So it's funny how, you know, now that we've played everyone and obviously they had the better of us in Lucknow early on in the tournament. We've probably both teams have kept a close eye on each other and sort of from, you know, a few games back, we knew were probably going to face each other in the semi-final. So yeah, whether they feel differently, you know, it's obviously been spoken about outside of their group. I don't know whether it's (been) inside, but they've had passed players talk about it. I know they're a very different group to certainly to (back in) 2015. So you can always read into to these things as much as you like. For us it's certainly talking and thinking about what we can do the right way or how we can approach it or our mindset to it rather than and what they're going to do so much so.'
The Aussie pacer was also asked about his retirement plans and though Starc confirmed that this World Cup will be his last, he won't retire after the tournament.
'No, I look to keep playing after this, but I don't doubt that I won't be making the next World Cup. I've no vision for that. Four years is a long time. I've always maintained that that's history. It's definitely at the top of the tree for me and I'll drop off the rest before I let go of test cricket or where my body's at. So yeah, for me it's just another semi-final or another one day game for Australia,' he confirmed.

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc has said that playing cricket for Australia is way more important for him than the IPL money. The left-arm pacer stated that his main goal is to keep himself at the best possible level while playing for the Aussies and that not playing in the IPL&nbsp; hasn't really bothered him.
In an interview with The Guardian, Starc said, &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t regret any of it, money will come and go but I&rsquo;m very grateful for the opportunities I&rsquo;ve had. Over a hundred years of Test cricket and there&rsquo;s been less than 500 men who have played it for Australia, that in itself makes it very special to be a part of it."
The left-arm pacer last played in the cash-rich league back in 2015 when he represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, the Aussie hasn't dismissed a return to the competition.
He added, "I'd certainly love to play in the IPL again, but my goal for a long time has been to be at my best for Australia, no matter the format."&nbsp;

Green, who picked a 5-wicket haul in the Boxing Day Test, was hit on the hand by a pacy Anrich Nortje delivery during his knock of 51*. The all-rounder though is expected to recover and be available for selection for the Test series against India that starts on February 9.&nbsp;
Green's compatriot Mitchell Starc though could miss the first Test in Nagpur, having injured his bowling hand during fielding on the opening day of the MCG Test. The pacer's recovery is expected to take longer than Green's since it's a tendon issue.
Both players have already been ruled out of the New Year Test in Sydney next week.

Of the 14 overseas countries, 57 names are from Australia, 33&nbsp; from West Indies and 31 from England. Ben Stokes, Cameroon Green, Adil Rashid and Sam Curran have registered their name in the highest base price category of Rs 2 crores. Kane Williamson who was released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad has also registered in the same bracket alongside Nicholas Pooran, Rilee Rossouw &amp; Rassie Van der Dussan. No Indian player has registered in the highest base price category which has 21 names in total.&nbsp; Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc were notable names that were not a part of the list.
