A relief for actor Jacqueline Fernandez in the ₹200 crore fraud case involving conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. The Patiala House Court in Delhi on Friday allowed Jacqueline to travel to Dubai from January 27 until January 30.&nbsp;
According to Times Now, the court gave her permission to catch the flight after taking note of her statement that it was a professional commitment.
Jacqueline Fernandez will be attending a conference by PepsiCo in Dubai. She is scheduled to perform at the event, and if she fails to show up, the organisers may take legal action against her, the Patiala House Court was told.
The plea was opposed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which said Jacqueline Fernandez had not put forth any contractual obligations on record. However, the court decided to let her travel to Dubai.
Last month, Fernandez withdrew her application seeking permission to travel to Bahrain to meet her parents after a Delhi court and the ED objected to the plea.

TMC spokesperson Saket Gokhale arrested in money laundering case

The state police arrested Gokhale from Delhi in December last year in a case of alleged misuse of money he had collected through crowdfunding.

The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) spokesperson Saket Gokhale in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in a crowdfunding initiative in Gujarat, official sources said.
Gokhale was taken into custody under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Ahmedabad where he is lodged in judicial custody in a Gujarat Police case.
He was produced before an Ahmedabad court which sent him to the ED custody till January 31, officials said.
The state police arrested Gokhale from Delhi in December last year in a case of alleged misuse of money he had collected through crowdfunding.
The Gujarat High Court had on Monday refused regular bail to Gokhale in this case as it asked him to approach the court only after a charge sheet is filed.
The TMC leader had approached the high court after a sessions court and a magistrate's court in Ahmedabad denied him bail recently following his arrest and expiry of remand.
Gokhale has been in judicial custody since January 5 and lodged at a jail in Ahmedabad. He was arrested by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch from Delhi on December 30, 2022, in this case.
The police FIR was registered on a complaint filed by an Ahmedabad resident who claimed to have donated Rs 500 to Gokhale through online mode.
According to police, the case was not just about Rs 500 as Gokhale allegedly collected over Rs 70 lakh from more than 1,700 people through 'ourdemocracy' platform and used that money for personal use. &nbsp; "There was no element of forgery in funds collected by Gokhale through an online platform which is used by even political parties. He is innocent and made a scapegoat. He is a full-time activist sustaining on donations received through crowdfunding. As soon as he joined TMC, he stopped accepting funds to prove his bonafide," Gokhale's lawyer had told the court.
In December, the Gujarat Police arrested him twice for allegedly spreading fake news regarding the cost incurred on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Morbi town following a bridge collapse tragedy.&nbsp;

Delhi court denies bail to AAP leader Satyendra Jain

The federal agency had arrested the accused in the money laundering case based on a CBI FIR lodged against Jain in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

A Delhi court on Thursday denied bail to AAP leader Satyendar Jain and two others in a money laundering case.
&ldquo;All three (bail) applications dismissed,&rdquo; Special Judge Vikas Dhull said.
The judge had reserved the order after hearing arguments of the accused persons, including Vaibhav Jain and Ankush Jain, as well as the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The federal agency had arrested the accused in the money laundering case based on a CBI FIR lodged against Jain in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Jain is accused of having laundered money through four companies allegedly linked to him.

Recently, the court also took cognisance of the prosecution complaint (charge sheet) filed by the ED against Jain, his wife and eight others, including four firms, in connection with the money laundering case.

A special Pakistani court on Saturday summoned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz on September 7 for the framing of charges against them in a Rs 16 billion money laundering case.
Shehbaz, 70, and his sons Hamza, 47, and Suleman, 40, were booked by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in November 2020 under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Anti Money Laundering Act.
The case is being heard by a special court in Lahore, which already granted pre-arrest bails to both father and son.
Both Shehbaz and Hamza were absent during the hearing as their lawyers requested for a one-time exemption on their behalf.
Shehbaz’s lawyer Amjad Pervaiz told the court that he had been advised against travelling as he was not well. Hamza’s lawyer Rao Aurangzeb said his client had severe back pain and needed rest.
FIA Prosecutor Farooq Bajwa did not object to the exemption, which was granted by the court.
The prosecutor told the court that they had obtained the record of 19 bank accounts of Suleman Shehbaz, the second son of Prime Minister Shehbaz while the record of another seven was yet to be obtained.
After hearing the arguments, the court adjourned the case until September 7 when it summoned Shehbaz and Hamza for the framing of charges.
Shehbaz and Hamza were previously set to be indicted on May 14 but it was deferred as the prime minister was out of the country.
According to the FIA report submitted to the court, the investigation team has "detected 28 benami accounts of the Shehbaz family through which money laundering of Rs 16.3bn was committed during 2008-18. The FIA examined the money trail of 17,000 credit transactions." Benami transaction refers to any transaction made by a person without using his name or by using the name of another person.
The report added that the amount was kept in "hidden accounts" and "given to Shehbaz in a personal capacity".
"This amount (Rs16 billion) has nothing to do with the sugar business (of Shehbaz family),'' it claimed. The money received from the accounts of low-wage employees by Shehbaz was transferred outside Pakistan via hundi/hawala networks, ultimately destined for the beneficial use of his family members," the FIA had alleged.
"Eleven low-paid employees of the Sharif group who 'held and possessed' the laundered proceeds on behalf of the principal accused, are found guilty of facilitating money laundering. The three other co-accused of the Sharif group also actively facilitated the money laundering," the agency said.

The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday arrested former National Stock Exchange CEO and MD Ravi Narain in a money laundering case, officials said.

ED arrests former NSE CEO Ravi Narain in money-laundering case

Narain is understood to have been arrested in the tapping case, under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday arrested former National Stock Exchange CEO and MD Ravi Narain in a money laundering case, officials said.
His role is being investigated by the federal probe agency as part of two criminal cases linked to the bourse &ndash; the alleged co-location 'scam' case and the purported illegal phone tapping of employees.
Narain is understood to have been arrested in the tapping case, under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (<a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/sc-notice-to-centre-on-plea-seeking-review-of-pmla-verdict-1661413906120">PMLA</a>).
He was the managing director and chief executive officer of the exchange from April 1994 to March 31, 2013, and was later appointed as vice-chairman, in the non-executive category, on the National Stock Exchange (<a href="https://www.editorji.com/business-news/markets/nse-gets-new-md-ceo-ashishkumar-chauhan-s-appointment-cleared-by-sebi-1658116687744">NSE</a>) board from April 1, 2013, to June 1, 2017, when he resigned.
The ED had earlier arrested another former NSE MD and CEO Chitra Ramkrishna in the alleged phone tapping case while the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/politics/no-way-connected-cbi-refutes-sisodia-s-claim-on-officer-pressurized-latter-demands-judicial-probe-1662389816472">CBI</a>, which is parallely probing these cases, had arrested her in the co-location case.
It has also arrested former Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey in the alleged illegal phone tapping case on July 19.
The probe agency had earlier told the court that "snooping of phone calls" at the NSE was being done from 1997 allegedly through a company helmed by Pandey and his family members.
The CBI FIR registered on May 19 against Pandey's company, iSec Services, red flags several violations of the SEBI circular by the firm in conducting system audit of stock brokers involved in algorithmic trading using the co-location facility.
It has alleged that iSec services had conducted audits of two "high-risk brokers" -- SMC Global Securities Ltd and Shaastra Securities Trading Private Limited -- fraudulently when the co-location "scam" was going on.
The SEBI had categorised brokers into low, medium and high-risk, based on their trading mode and through various circulars issued from time to time prescribed different norms of conducting system audits according to their risk profiles.
According to SEBI guidelines, these brokers came in the category of high risk for using co-location facilities to carry out algorithmic trading in the NSE, they said.
The high-risk brokers required a system audit of their algorithmic trading system every six months with an auditor only allowed to conduct three successive audits, the CBI had said.
The company iSec Services Private Ltd, which was founded by Pandey after he resigned from police service in March 2001, had audited these traders during 2013-19 continuously, breaking the permissible limit of only three consecutive audits, according to the FIR.

The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday conducted searches at multiple locations spread across Delhi and five states as part of a money laundering investigation into alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy, officials said.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and some bureaucrats have been named as accused in the alleged scam related to the Delhi excise policy, which has now been rolled back.
Around 30 premises in Delhi, Telangana, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka are being searched and private individuals named in the case are being raided, the officials said.
But these do not include premises linked to Sisodia or any other government servant, they said.
The federal agency initiated a probe in the case, under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), after taking cognisance of a CBI FIR that has named Sisodia and 14 others. &nbsp;The CBI had conducted raids in the case on August 19, covering the Delhi residences of Sisodia (50), IAS officer and former Delhi excise commissioner Arava Gopi Krishna, and 19 other locations across seven states and Union Territories.
Sisodia holds multiple portfolios in the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government including excise and education.
The ED is probing if alleged irregularities were done in the formulation and execution of the Delhi Excise Policy brought out in November last year.
The scheme came under the scanner after Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena recently recommended a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the implementation of Delhi's Excise Policy 2021-22. He had also suspended 11 excise officials in the matter. Sisodia too demanded a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the policy. &nbsp;
The CBI inquiry was recommended on the findings of the Delhi chief secretary's report filed in July showing prima facie violations of the GNCTD Act 1991, Transaction of Business Rules (ToBR)-1993, Delhi Excise Act-2009 and Delhi Excise Rules-2010, officials said. &nbsp;
The ED, during its probe, will analyse if individuals and companies who were involved in the policy-making of this scheme and related entities generated any "proceeds of crime under the definition of PMLA" and if there was any possible creation of illegal or benami assets, sources had said. &nbsp;
The agency has powers to attach such assets and question, arrest and prosecute those who indulge in the offence of money laundering. &nbsp;According to officials, the chief secretary's report had shown prima facie violations, including "deliberate and gross procedural lapses", to provide post-tender "undue benefits to liquor licensees" through the policy. &nbsp;
It is alleged that undue financial favours were extended to liquor licensees after the tenders were awarded, causing loss to the exchequer.
The excise department gave a waiver of Rs 144.36 crore to the licensees on the tendered licence fee on the excuse of COVID-19, sources claimed. They added that it also refunded the earnest money of Rs 30 crore to the lowest bidder for the licence of the airport zone when it failed to obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC) from airport authorities. &nbsp;
"It was in gross violation of rule 48(11)(b) of the Delhi Excise Rules, 2010, which clearly stipulates that the successful bidder must complete all formalities for the grant of the licence, failing which all deposits made by him shall stand forfeited to the government," a source said. &nbsp;
The Excise Policy 2021-22, formulated on the basis of an expert committee report, was implemented on November 17 last year and retail licences were issued under it to private bidders for 849 vends across the city, divided into 32 zones.&nbsp;

Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez has been asked to appear by Delhi&rsquo;s Patiala House court in connection with a Rs 200 crore money laundering case on Wednesday.
Taking cognisance of the supplementary charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate, additional sessions judge Praveen Singh summoned the actress on September 26.
Fernandez, who was summoned by ED several times in connection with the investigation, has been named as an accused for the first time in the supplementary charge sheet.
ED's earlier charge sheet and a supplementary charge sheet did not mention her as an accused.
The documents, however, had mentioned the details of the statements recorded by Fernandez and fellow actor Nora Fatehi.
According to ED, Fernandez and Nora Fatehi, who were examined, had received luxury cars and other expensive gifts from Chandrashekar.
ED stated Fernandez's statements were recorded on August 30 and October 20, 2021 where she admitted to having received gifts from Chandrashekar.
Statements of Fatehi were recorded on September 13 and October 14, 2021 and she also acknowledged having received gifts from the alleged conman and his actor wife Leena Paulose.&nbsp;

 The Enforcement Directorate raided multiple locations in Jharkhand on Wednesday and recovered 2 AK series assault rifles as part of an ongoing money-laundering investigation into alleged illegal mining in the state, official sources said.
The weapons were kept in an almirah at a home in Ranchi, they said.
The sources identified the premises to be linked to a person -- Prem Prakash -- involved in the case.
The federal probe agency is covering about 17-20 premises in Jharkhand, neighbouring Bihar, Tamil Nadu and the Delhi-NCR as part of the operation.
The searches were carried out after fresh information came to the fore following the questioning of Pankaj Mishra, a political aide of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and Mishra's associate and muscleman Bachhu Yadav, the sources said.

"The evidence collected during the course of the investigation, including the statements of various persons, digital evidence and documents, revealed that the seized cash or bank balance is derived from illegal mining being rampantly done in the Sahibganj area, including the forest area," the agency had said.
It had said it was probing the trail of Rs 100 crore of "proceeds of crime" generated from illegal mining operations in Jharkhand.

The Enforcement Directorate raided multiple locations in Jharkhand on Wednesday and recovered 2 AK series assault rifles as part of an ongoing money-laundering investigation into alleged illegal mining in the state, official sources said.
The weapons were kept in an almirah at a home in Ranchi, they said.
The sources identified the premises to be linked to a person -- Prem Prakash -- involved in the case.

A Delhi court Tuesday extended Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain's judicial custody till August 27, while his wife Poonam Jain was granted regular bail in the money laundering case.
Jain had moved a fresh bail  plea in the matter, which will now be heard on August 27. The Enforcement Directorate had arrested Jain on May 30 this year in connection with the case.
Prior to the arrest, assets worth Rs 4.81 crores linked to AAP minister's family were attached by ED in the disportionate assets case.
His aides were arrested on June 6 with the probe agency recovering Rs 2.85 crore cash and 133 gold coins from their premises across Delhi and other locations.
ED had initiated money laundering investigation on the basis of CBI's 2017 FIR against Jain, which was booked under Prevention of Corruption Act.
The CBI last Friday also raided Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia's house for his alleged involved him in the Delhi liquor scam. Sisodia called the allegations a conspiracy and claimed that the BJP-ruled Centre had offered him to join them.

The bishop was detained by immigration officials at the airport on Tuesday when he was leaving for UK for a church event and asked to appear for questioning in the matter.

The Gujarat Police on Wednesday arrested filmmaker Avinash Das in a case related to sharing on Twitter a photo of Union Home Minister Amit Shah with arrested IAS officer Pooja Singhal, an official said.
A team of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch detained Das from his residence in Mumbai on Tuesday and brought him here in the early hours of Wednesday.
"Das was officially arrested at 4 am on Wednesday. We are now scanning his social media accounts to check if he had posted some other offensive material in the past. We will produce him in a court in the afternoon to seek his remand," Ahmedabad Crime Branch's Deputy Commissioner of Police Chaitanya Mandlik said.

The crime branch in a press release on Wednesday said it has found another tweet posted by Das which appears to be offensive and could hurt the sentiments of Hindus.
In the Hindi tweet, which was mentioned in the release, Das tried to convey in a satirical way that he cannot give up alcohol because Gods such as Brahma and Ram reside in different types of liquor, like whiskey and brandy.
It was posted on Das' Twitter handle at 2.19 pm on May 1, 2016.
Das has directed the 2017 film 'Anaarkali of Aarah', starring Swara Bhaskar, Sanjay Mishra and Pankaj Tripathi, and the 2021 movie 'Raat Baaki Hai'. He had also helmed a Netflix series called 'She'.
The Ahmedabad Crime Branch had registered an FIR against the filmmaker under Section 469 (forgery) of the Indian Penal Code as well as provisions of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act and the Information Technology Act, as he had also posted on his Instagram and Facebook accounts another photo of a woman wearing the national flag.
The FIR against 46-year-old Das was registered in June after he shared a photo showing Singhal, who had been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case, whispering something to Shah.
As per the FIR, in a caption to the photo Das had claimed the picture was taken a few days before Singhal's arrest, while it was actually taken in 2017.
The crime branch had alleged this was done with an intention to tarnish Shah's image.

The ED alleged that Ayyub had raised crores by "Ketto" which is an online crowdfunding platform and the money belonged to the three campaigns that she had started earlier.

The federal investigation agency had issued a provisional order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act to attach a Rs 50 lakh worth fixed deposit and the rest amount kept as bank deposits and held in two accounts of a private bank in Navi Mumbai.
Ayyub is the account holder and deposits of over Rs 1.77&nbsp;crore have been attached by the ED.
The money laundering case against Ayyub was filed after taking cognisance of a September, 2021 FIR of Ghaziabad Police related to alleged irregularities in donor funds of over Rs 2.69 crore raised by her through an online crowd funding platform called 'Ketto'.
The police lodged the case on a complaint made by&nbsp;Vikas Sankrityayan, founder of an NGO called "Hindu IT Cell" and a resident of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad.
Ayyub had then stated that the "entire donation received through Ketto is accounted for and not a single paisa has been misused".
The journalist has now issued a fresh statement saying that allegations of misusing the donation money for personal use are&nbsp;preposterous, wholly mala fide and belied by record, and is a deliberate misreading of her bank statements.
In the statement she detailed the relief work carried out by her for the Covid-19 pandemic and gave an account of how she raised the money through Ketto. She also gave a break-up of the donation amount collected by her.&nbsp;

The money laundering case against Ayyub was filed after taking cognisance of a September, 2021 FIR of Ghaziabad Police (Uttar Pradesh) related to alleged irregularities in donor funds of over Rs 2.69 crore raised by her through an online crowd funding platform called 'Ketto'.
The police lodged the case on a complaint made by&nbsp;Vikas Sankrityayan, founder of an NGO called "Hindu IT Cell" and a resident of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad.
Ayyub had then stated that the "entire donation received through Ketto is accounted for and not a single paisa has been misused".
According to the FIR, the funds were raised as part of three campaigns: funds for slum dwellers and farmers during April-May 2020; relief work for Assam, Bihar and Maharashtra during June-September 2020; and help for COVID-19 impacted people in India during May-June 2021.
"Funds totalling Rs 2,69,44,680 were raised on Ketto by Rana Ayyub. These funds were withdrawn in the bank accounts of her sister and father," the agency said.
Out of this amount, Rs 72,01,786 was withdrawn in her own bank account, Rs 37,15,072 withdrawn in her sister Iffat Shaikh's account, and Rs 1,60,27,822 was withdrawn in her father Mohd Ayyub Waquif's bank account, it said.&nbsp; All these funds, the ED found, were subsequently "transferred" in Ayyub's own account.
Ayyub submitted documents of expense for Rs 31,16,770 to the ED, however, after verification of the claimed expenses, the agency found that the actual expenses were to the tune of Rs 17,66,970, the agency stated.
"Fake bills were found to have been prepared by Rana Ayyub in the name of some entities to claim expenses on relief work. Expenses made for personal travel by air were claimed as expense for relief work," it alleged.
The ED said its probe "makes it abundantly clear that the funds were raised in the name of charity in a completely pre-planned and systematic manner, and the funds were not utilised completely for the purpose of which the funds were raised".
"Instead of utilising the funds for the relief work, Rana Ayyub parked some of the funds by opening a separate current bank account," it said.&nbsp; Ayyub, it added, created the fixed deposit of Rs 50 lakh from the funds raised on the online platform and subsequently "did not utilise" these for relief work.&nbsp; The agency found Ayyub "deposited a total of Rs 74.50 lakh in PM Cares fund and CM Relief Fund." The attachment order of the ED can be challenged before the Adjudicating Authority of PMLA.
The journalist has now issued a fresh statement saying that allegations of misusing the donation money for personal use are&nbsp;preposterous, wholly mala fide and belied by record, and is a deliberate misreading of her bank statements.
