Bone-chilling winds and extreme cold will not be an excuse for not cleaning up after yourself at the world&rsquo;s tallest peak. Mount Everest climbers will now have to clean their own poo, which usually does not fully degrade in extreme cold.
Troubled with stinking snow and rocks covered with human stool, Nepal authorities will instruct climbers to buy 'poop bags' at the base camp before they set out for their expedition to Mount Everest and Lhotse.
Municipal chairman Mingma Sherpa told BBC that the poop bags carried by the climbers will be checked after the climb. &ldquo;Our mountains have begun to stink,&rdquo; he told the outlet.
No makeshift toilets are available for the climbers once they go past the base camp. They usually dig a hole in the ice. However, climbers are forced to do their business in the open when they are higher up on the mountain.
&ldquo;Mountaineers have been using such bags on Mount Denali and in the Antarctic as well, that is why we have been advocating for it,&rdquo; Mingma Sherpa told BBC.

Gunjan Pankaj Prabhu Narvekar climbed Mount Kang Yatse-II (6250 metres), Mount Reponi Mallari-I (6097 metres) and Mount Reponi Mallari-II (6113 metres) in the Markha Valley of Ladakh.&nbsp;
Gunjan told news agency ANI that the trek was difficult because of the snowfall. She said that in places there was knee-deep snow and in some places it came up to the hip. Gunjan added that she did not face any injuries.&nbsp;
She said that the previous record was held by a 13-year-old boy from Hyderabad who summited 2 peaks above 6000 metres in 72 hours.&nbsp;
The 12-year-old also spoke about her future plans and said she wants to summit a peak above 7000 metres but in India only people above 16 years are allowed to do so. She said her ultimate aim is to climb Mount Everest and Annapurna.&nbsp;

Search intensifies around Mount Everest Summit for missing Indian climber

Devkota also shared photographs of the climber reaching the summit last Friday before he went missing, reported The Straits Times on Tuesday.

&nbsp;A search and rescue operation involving several teams is underway around the Mount Everest Summit to trace an Indian-origin Singaporean climber who has been missing since Saturday.
Teams consisting of three Sherpas each have been searching for Shrinivas Sainis Dattatraya (39), according to Prakash Chandra Devkota, the owner of Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition.
Seven Summit Treks, a Nepal-based adventure travel operator, had organised Dattatraya&rsquo;s Everest ascent.
In the photos, Dattatraya, a senior manager for software engineering at real estate tech firm JLL Technologies, is seen wearing bright orange winter wear, sunglasses and an oxygen mask. He is surrounded by colourful prayer flags marking the 8,849 m summit.
He is clutching a rope with his right hand and stands upright on the peak.
In another picture, the climber lies on his back and is surrounded by three others in similar mountain climbing wear. One of them snaps a shot of him with a smartphone.
He last sent a text message to his wife Sushma Soma, 36, on Friday, saying he had reached Everest&rsquo;s summit. He told her he had high-altitude cerebral oedema (or hace) -- a severe high-altitude illness that could prove fatal -- and was not likely to make it back down, according to the Singapore broadsheet report.
Soma, a musician, learnt at 2 am on Saturday that the two Sherpas he was with, and another climber in the group, made it down from the mountain, but her husband never did.
Devkota said one of the Sherpas, Dendi, had tried to save Dattatraya, but he did not give more details. He added that Dendi had suffered frostbite to his fingers and was hospitalised.
Talking further about the climber, the Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition owner said Dattatraya was his good friend, and he had joined them on previous climbs, including a 2021 expedition to the 8,163 m Manaslu peak in Nepal, but &ldquo;this time is so bad&rdquo;. He did not elaborate further when asked what had happened.
In an Instagram story on Monday, Soma said the search and rescue mission was ongoing. &ldquo;Thank you all for all your (messages). We are grateful for your love and concern,&rdquo; she said.
At least 11 climbers have died so far this climbing season on Mount Everest, and at least two, including Dattatraya, are missing.
Sim Phei Sunn, 47, a public servant, reached the summit in May 2019. She recalled seeing corpses there. She said within the mountaineering community, they have noticed more inexperienced climbers on Everest, which might have contributed to the higher death toll.
Recalling her 2019 expedition, she said, &ldquo;You can see people wearing their helmets the wrong way, and putting their crampons (spikes attached to climbing boots) on the wrong feet, which shows they should not be there.&rdquo; She said established companies usually screen climbers before planning an expedition by looking at their climbing record. This includes the mountains they have scaled, which sports they do and their overall fitness level.
But she said in recent years, more low-cost operators have entered the market, and they are unlikely to turn away inexperienced clients.
Sim recommends hopefuls to spend a few years scaling 6,000 m to 8,000m mountains as well as training in different terrains, including in alpine conditions with ice and snow.
She said, &ldquo;You train before you go to Everest &ndash; you do not go to Everest to train.&rdquo;

Hari Budha Magar, who lost both his legs in Afghanistan, reached the mountain's top on Friday, assisted by a team of Nepalese climbers, led by a former Gurkha and SAS mountain troop leader.
The team faced several challenges, including poor weather and nearly running out of oxygen.
Magar started his history-making climb on April 17, 13 years to the day since he lost his legs in after an IED exploded.
After the incident, the stigma of disability and Nepalese society's attitudes toward his condition pushed him into depression.
He battled alcoholism and attempted to take his own life.
But in 2018 he started planning to climb Mount Everest and helped campaign against a ban barring double amputees and blind people from attempting to summit the mountain.
From base camp in Nepal he told Sky News he hoped his feat would "keep continuously making awareness of disability and changing the perception on persons with a disability."
He added he hoped to also "promote peace because I escaped war in Nepal and went to fight another war and war doesn't do good to anyone else."

A Singaporean man of Indian origin has gone missing after reaching the summit of Mount Everest, his family has claimed.
Shrinivas Sainis Dattatraya sent a text message to his wife on May 19, 2023, saying that he had scaled the peak, but was not likely to make it back down.&nbsp;
While descending, he apparently suffered altitude sickness and frostbite. He got separated from the rest of his group, and fell at around 8,000 metres, likely onto the Tibetan side of the mountain, his family said.
Sherpas began searching for Dattatraya on May 20 but his family wants a special rescue team to be deployed.
According to Channel News Asia, the Singapore High Commission in New Delhi has been in close contact with Shrinivas' family, local authorities in Nepal and emergency medical services.
Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to monitor developments and render the necessary consular support to the family during this difficult time, the channel cited the ministry as saying.

Om Madan Garg is no stranger to adventure -- his parents have taken him on backpacking trips to Vietnam, Thailand and Laos since he was just two-and-a-half months old.

Six-year-old Indian-origin boy Om Madan Garg has become the youngest Singaporean to finish the Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal, a feat that has been recognised by the Singapore Book of Records.
Om made the 10-day journey with his parents in October, reaching the south base camp in Nepal at an altitude of 5,364 metre, after a trek of 65 km.
Om, his father Mayur Garg, 38, and mother Gayatri Mahendram, 39, kicked off their 10-day trek on September 28, aided by a guide and two porters, The Straits Times newspaper reported on Monday.

Their entire journey has been documented on the family&rsquo;s YouTube travel channel, The Brave Tourist, in a seven-part series.
"I want to see the whole world," said Om, the Kindergarten 2 student from Canossaville Preschool whose 65 km trek took him past remote villages, Nepalese temples and monasteries, and scenic vistas of Himalayan mountains like the Everest, Lhotse and Lhotse Sar.
When the going got tough on the undulating and rugged paths towards the Everest Base Camp, lollipops, raisins and cookies kept Om going on the once-in-a-lifetime expedition with his parents.
Mayur -- a senior business analyst and avid mountain climber who has scaled peaks in Indonesia, Russia and Tanzania -- had made the trip to Everest Base Camp in November 2021, and thought it would make for a fun family trip.
To prepare for the trip, the family watched YouTube videos of other trekkers who had logged the journey, and made it a point to be active every day six months prior to the trip.
"We live in the Yio Chu Kang area, and we walk to the Marina Bay Sands area which is about 10 km away. It takes us four to five hours, but we just go,&rdquo; Mayur said.
The regime also included swimming, stair-climbing and excursions to places like Fort Canning.
&ldquo;Fort Canning was hard because we had to go up and down the stairs 30 times. But because it was hard when we were training, when we went to Everest Base Camp, it was easy,&rdquo; Om said.
The high-altitude hike, with an elevation gain of about 2,500 m, is a challenge even for adults. From the starting point at the Nepalese village of Lukla, which is at 2,860 m above sea level, the trio headed to the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) and frozen lake bed Gorakshep (5,164 m) before reaching the Everest Base Camp (5,364 m).
The family originally planned for a 13-day trek so that they could go at an easy pace of 5 km a day on the trail. But bad weather conditions meant that their helicopter ride to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, notorious for being the most dangerous airport in the world, was held back for two days.
The family had to make up for the lost time by covering more distance per day, especially on the first day, when they hiked 12 km to the village of Benkar.
&ldquo;Om coped and went along, but towards the end, I got a bit of altitude sickness and had headaches. It&rsquo;s a difficult journey because it&rsquo;s all uphill,&rdquo; said Gayatri, a senior physiotherapist, recalling the first day of the trip.
Om fell sick on the second night of the expedition. &ldquo;I had a tummy upset, and I was feeling yucky. I had to change my trousers three times, but I only had three pairs of trousers. I had to wash my trousers in cold, cold water,&rdquo; he said.
Om&rsquo;s parents added that he was able to continue the journey after he rested and took some medication from a local pharmacy.
&ldquo;There was a plan for every kind of situation. We had helicopter tickets already booked. If something breaks, we thought, we will fly back,&rdquo; said Mayur. Thankfully, the rest of the trek continued without major hiccups.
The family used to wake up at about 6 am every day while on the trek and would hit the trail after breakfast at about 8 am.
After a few hours of trekking, they would break for lunch and then continue on their journey until 3 pm, before retiring for the rest of the day at local tea houses.
&ldquo;We brought all these little card games to play with Om, and we had notepads, so we&rsquo;d also play games like tic-tac-toe to pass the time,&rdquo; said Gayatri. They went to bed at about 7 pm because it was cold and there was nothing much to do at night.
The sight of the young boy on the trail amazed other trekking enthusiasts. The family met a group of six Singaporeans who gave Om their team T-shirt as a souvenir.
&ldquo;They were so emotional after seeing someone so small doing something that they were doing,&rdquo; said Mayur.
&ldquo;My favourite part of the trip is the Hillary Bridge, because it&rsquo;s higher than all the other bridges,&rdquo; he said, referring to the 150m-high suspension bridge that is a popular photo stop along the route.
It was a proud moment for the family when they reached the base camp on the afternoon of October 7. &ldquo;All those emotions that we felt, the stress, the strain &ndash; it was so surreal,&rdquo; said Gayatri.
&ldquo;I felt good, I did something I&rsquo;ve never done before,&rdquo; said Om of his achievement.
The family of three returned to Kathmandu by helicopter after spending a night at the nearby town of Gorakshep.
Om now has his sights set on another ambitious trek to the base camp of Ama Dablam, the third most popular Himalayan peak in Nepal among climbers after Everest and Mera Peak.
He caught a glimpse of that mountain range while on the Everest Base Camp trek. &ldquo;It looks beautiful,&rdquo; said Om.&nbsp;

Sherpa, 48, never got a chance to get a formal education because had to start earning a living by carrying climbing gear and supplies for trekkers. Thursday's successful ascent was her 10th — the most times any woman has climbed Everest — and she has always said she wanted to inspire all women so they too can achieve their dreams.
A native of Nepal, Sherpa lives in the U.S. with her three children in West Hartford, Connecticut.
Another Nepalese Sherpa guide, Kami Rita, reached the summit for the 26th time Saturday, breaking his own record for the most climbs of Everest. Rita led a group of Sherpa climbers who fixed ropes along the route so that hundreds of other climbers and guides can make their way to the top of the mountain later this month.

Priyanka Mohite from Satara in western Maharashtra has become the first Indian woman to scale five peaks above 8,000 metres after she climbed Mount Kanchenjunga on Thursday.
30-year-old Priyanka, the recipient of Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award 2020, successfully completed her expedition to Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), the third highest mountain on the planet, at 4.52 pm, her brother Akash Mohite told PTI.
In April 2021, she had scaled Mt Annapurna (8,091 m), the 10th highest mountain peak in the world and had become the first Indian woman climber to achieve the feat.
Priyanka has also climbed the world's highest peak Mount Everest (8,849 m) in 2013, Mount Lhotse (8,516 m) in 2018, Mount Makalu (8,485 m) and Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) in 2016.
Passionate about mountaineering since childhood, Priyanka started to scale mountains in the Sahyadri range of Maharashtra as a teenager and in 2012 scaled Bandarpunch, a mountain massif of the Garhwal division of the Himalayas, in Uttarakhand.
In 2015 Priyanka scaled Mt. Menthosa which at 6443 metres is the second-highest peak in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh.
The Bengaluru-based climber is also the recipient of the Maharashtra Government's Shiv Chhatrapati State award for adventure sports for 2017-2018.

30-year-old&nbsp;Priyanka, the recipient of Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award 2020, successfully completed her expedition to Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), the third highest mountain on the planet, at 4.52 pm, her brother Akash Mohite told PTI.
In April 2021, she had scaled Mt Annapurna (8,091 m), the 10th highest mountain peak in the world and had become the first Indian woman climber to achieve the feat.
Priyanka has also climbed the world's highest peak Mount Everest (8,849 m) in 2013, Mount Lhotse (8,516 m) in 2018, Mount Makalu (8,485 m) and Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) in 2016.

Mount Everest is set to witness its busiest year ever. According to the authoritative Himalayan Database, since the first scaling of the world's highest peak, 4000 climbers have reached atop the Everest. 
This is prompting concerns about overcrowding and safety since the mountain is opening up to more people leading to potential shortages of oxygen tanks, and increased risk of frostbite and even death. Nepal currently grants permits to all those who apply and are willing to pay over 7 lakhs to scale the nearly 9000 metres tall peak. According to the tourism department, the government has already handed out 378 climbing permits this year.
