For the legendary cricketer from Jharkhand, things like farming, riding bikes and vintage cars work as stress buster for him.
"Once I quit international cricket, I wanted to spend a bit more time with my family. But, at that same time, to be mentally active, to have that passion to stay focussed &mdash; for me, I love farming, for me it is the motorbikes, I have started getting into vintage cars.
"These things de-stress me. If am stressed, I would maybe go to the garage, spend a couple of hours over there and I will just be fine, I would come back," he said.
"I have always felt growing up with a pet, whether it is a cat or a dog... I prefer dogs though. They have unconditional love towards you. I have said this in a previous interview, even if I lose a game and come back, my dog greets me the same way." He has been a much admired leader at CSK and Dhoni said that "we need to earn that respect of the people you're leading".
"You cannot command or demand respect. You need to earn it. I may have a position in an institution, and yes, that position needs to be respected. But me as an individual sitting on the chair, I need to earn that respect.
"I cannot just say 'respect me'! If you have the respect of the people around you, they give 10 to 15 percent more.
"India is slightly different. People talk about being professional. Yes, we Indians are professional, but our emotional connect is stronger. I feel as an Indian, my strength is the emotional connect. My connection with CSK is an emotional connect.
"It's not just a player who comes and plays for a couple of months and then goes back home." While he is not a big fan of social media, Dhoni would prefer Instagram over X to avoid controversy.
"I prefer Instagram over Twitter (X). I believe that nothing good has happened over Twitter, you know, especially in India, there's always a controversy. Somebody will write something and it turns into a controversy.
"I was like why do I need to be there? It used to be 140 characters. You cannot elaborate. Imagine me putting something over there and then it is left to the people to read it. And they just interpret what they want to interpret.
"So I'm like, no, no, that's not really for me. Instagram, still I like because I could put up my picture or video or something and just leave it. That is also changing now. So I still prefer Instagram, but I'm not very active because less distractions are better."

As per a Times of India report, a source has disclosed that Dhoni has not informed anything in regards to his retirement plans to the CSK management. The source also disclosed that Dhoni informed the management that he would take the final call about his IPL future in the next couple of months.
The report indicates that Dhoni might also delay his decision depending on BCCI's position on the impact sub rule. The regulation will enable Dhoni to act as an additional batsman in the final two overs, during which he will not have to cover much ground on the field.

But alas, the visitors fell short by just 1 run, and Dhoni remained unbeaten in a game where he gave it all yet lost.

His second-highest score ever was also in a losing cause versus the then Kings XI Punjab. CSK were chasing 198 and were caught in a struggle at 56/3 when Dhoni took to the crease in the 7th over. There was no looking back for MS then. In just 44 balls, Dhoni had hit 6 fours and 5 sixes to reach 79, including a 16-run penultimate over. But it was not enough, and CSK lost the match by 5 runs.

75* vs RR in 2019
Playing at Chepauk against the Rajasthan Royals, CSK had been asked to bat first. In a surprise move, MS walked in at number 4 when the hosts had been reduced to 22/2 before the powerplay was over. Dhoni led the charge, scoring an unbeaten 75 in 46 balls with 4 fours and as many sixes. In the last 18 balls of the innings, Chennai Super Kings hit the Rajasthan bowlers for 60 runs, most of which were by Dhoni. The hosts managed to put up 175 on the board, winning the match by 8 runs. This knock by Dhoni can perhaps be regarded as one of the best comebacks by a team, also showing why MSD is one of the most reliable batters cricket has ever gotten. Chasing a mammoth 205, Dhoni&rsquo;s team was reduced to 74/4 at the end of the 9th over. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are arguably the two best teams in the history of IPL with 10 titles combined. Facing off in the 2012 eliminator, Chennai had put up a total of 187 for Mumbai to chase. But getting to the defendable 187 was not easy for CSK until Dhoni took the matter into his own hands. Chennai had not crossed the 3-digit mark until the 14th over. That is when the skipper arrived. In the next six overs, Dhoni starred with the bat at an incredible strike rate of 255 and played a valiant knock of 51* in just 20 balls. CSK would eventually win the game by 38 runs.

You must be wondering why a 20-run knock is on this list, but this performance by MS Dhoni completely changed the complexion of the game when CSK faced MI this season. CSK were 186/4 after 19.2 overs when MS Dhoni walked in with 4 deliveries left. What followed were three back-to-back sixes against Hardik Pandya at Wankhede stadium followed by a double on the last delivery. CSK crossed the 200-run mark, ending their innings at 206/4. During the chase, Mumbai Indians managed to score 186 runs and lost the game by 20 runs. Those 20 runs scored by MS Dhoni in the last 4 deliveries proved to be the difference at the end.

What happened in CSK's innings?
Rahul Chahar's spin wizardry was complemented well by pacer Harshal Patel's superb variations at death as Punjab Kings produced a spirited bowling effort to restrict Chennai Super Kings for a par 167 for nine in the IPL here on Sunday.
At 60/1 in Power Play, CSK were going great guns with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (32) and Daryl Mitchell in the middle during an entertaining 57-run partnership when the wily leg-spinner (3/23) triggered a collapse taking two wickets in two balls after PBKS opted to bowl.
The partnership was halted as CSK went on to lose three wickets in 11 balls with Harshal taking the prized-scalp of Mitchell (30; 19b, 2x4, 1x6) in a controversial DRS.
Harshal returned at the death to dismiss Shardul Thakur (17) and MS Dhoni for a golden duck as CSK's hopes for a revival went up in smoke.
First, he cleaned up Thakur with a slower off-cutter as the CSK fans in Dharamsala waited for yet another piece of Dhoni magic with eight balls to go.
But the Yellow Army left in disbelief as the talismanic Dhoni departed in the very first ball, unable to counter Harshal's impeccably executed slow yorker.
With no time to bring his bat down, Dhoni's off-stump was knocked over.
Earlier, veteran Ajinkya Rahane continued his wretched form with the bat and got out for nine from seven balls with Arshdeep Singh giving the breakthrough inside the Power Play.
Rahane lost his balance trying to flick a delivery on his leg to midwicket where Kagiso Rabada took a low catch.
But from thereon, Mitchell looked in complete control, returning to the same venue seven months after the New Zealander smashed a 127-ball 130 against India in the ODI World Cup.
He stepped on the gas in Arshdeep's second over, pulling him for a midwicket boundary and then lofted him over mid-off.
From being 10 off 11 balls, Ruturaj took the attack to PBKS' most economical bowler Harpreet Brar, smashing him for one six and two fours in a row as they ended up taking 19 runs off the last over of the Power Play.
Chahar turned it around for PBKS right after the timeout, dismissing Ruturaj and Shivam Dube in successive deliveries.
Having just picked up pace, the CSK skipper swung at a wide delivery but the big edge was caught splendidly by Jitesh Sharma behind the stumps.
Dube's run of golden ducks stretched to two matches after being picked for the upcoming T20 World Cup when the big-hitting allrounder was done in by a Chahar googly.
Dube failed to read the wrong'un and pushed the ball with an angled bat, and the edge nestled in the hands of Jitesh.
But a shocker followed to end Mitchell's stay.
The Kiwi fell victim to a contentious umpire's call even as the ball was going down the leg. But the UltraEdge showed that the ball was hitting the leg-stump, resulting in his leg-before dismissal.
Thereafter, CSK could not get a partnership going as PBKS bowlers kept chipping away.

Speaking on the guidance he received from Dhoni, Pathirana said: "After my father, in my cricket life, mostly he's (MSD) playing my father's role. He always takes care of me and gives me some advice on what I have to do -- similar to my father's thing when I'm doing in my home.
"I think that's enough. He's not telling a lot of things when I'm on the field and off the field. He's just telling me small things, but it makes a lot of difference, and it makes a lot of confidence for me." he said in CSK's 'Lions up close' show on the franchise's YouTube channel.
"At the moment, he knows how to maintain the players. Off the field, we don't talk much. If I have to ask something from him, definitely, I'd go to him and ask him." The lanky Sri Lankan has had a great IPL 2024 season so far, being the team's second-highest wicket-taker after Mustafizur Rahman (14), grasping 13 wickets in six matches at an economy of 7.68, including a four-wicket haul.
As for Dhoni, he has been in good touch with the bat this season, especially as a finisher.

Rumours continue to swirl around that it could well be Dhoni's final season in this high-profile Twenty20 league, but the veteran is yet to make a formal announcement. But, inspired by him so much, Patheerana has emotionally requested Dhoni to continue at least for one more season.

Though MSD is yet to make an official announcement, IPL 2024 may well be his swansong and this might be Dhoni's last innings at the Wankhede Stadium. The same venue where he hit the winning six to help India lift the 2011 World Cup.

MS Dhoni, who came out to play just 3 balls, was leaving the ground after CSK beat KKR by 7 wickets. That's when Gautam Gambhir came up to him and the two former India captains shared a warm hug and exchanged a few words with bright smiles on their faces.

The video quickly went viral on social media as it featured two of India's 2011 World Cup-winning heroes. While Gambhir scored a match-winning 97, MSD smashed an unbeaten 91 to take India to victory.
A couple of years back, it seemed that there was some tension between the two but Gambhir spoke highly of Dhoni on a few occasions and put all those speculations to rest.
This is not the first time in this IPL that Gambhir had such a moment. He also had a similar hug with Virat Kohli when KKR took on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru a few days back.
In the match, CSK beat KKR by 7 wickets to return to winning ways after losing 2 in a row. KKR on the other hand were handed their first defeat of the season. They were on a 3-match winning streak before this game.

But ahead of the IPL game, Gambhir lauded Dhoni's 'tactical genius' and termed him 'India's most successful captain', during a conversation with broadcaster Star Sports.&nbsp; 'Obviously, MS is probably the most successful captain India will ever have. I don't think so anyone can ever reach that level, winning 3 ICC trophies,' Gambhir remarked.&nbsp; 'But yes, in the IPL, I enjoyed every bit of it because I knew MS had that tactical mindset,' the two-time IPL winning player said.&nbsp; He then went on to praise the way Dhoni handles his bowlers and sets the field like a tactical genius and how his role as a finisher at number 6 or 7 meant 'till the time he is there, he can finish off the game.'&nbsp; Gambhir added,' I knew that tactically I had to be better than him in every field because he may not be aggressive on the field but always knew that he was not going to give up.'&nbsp; The KKR mentor knew the force his team is up against as he stated in conclusion that one doesn't defeat Chennai till you have actually made your final runs, 'With other teams, if you get closer to the target they end up giving runs, but not with MS.'
